      The ways of the Force are unknown. I think he was the Chosen One and it was in his destiny to destroy the Jedi Order. He did do that, he killed younglings while Order 66 was activated, hunted down remaining Jedi etc. In the end, he was the one who destroyed the Sith, but they didn't think it meant he would have to join them in the process.
      It probably isn't just the prophecy, it's also the Jedi Order for how they handled things. They ultimately failed as well, they refused to help him, and by cancelling emotions and so forth, they refused to support him when he was clearly troubled. Mace Windu for instance, "I understand the Council has made a decision to make you a Master, but given that it's a stupid ass decision, we've elected to ignore it!" That's an OUTRAGE!
      There were a lot of factors at play and the Jedi themselves should be held responsible. Ultimately Annie brought balance to the Force, destroyed the Jedi, made it 2-2, then Obiwan kept the balance. Once Yoda died, it was Luke, Vader and Palpatine.
      Such a difficult path though, Anakin really lost everything, his mother, his wife, himself and even his children initially. Ultimately, he found himself back and returned, but it was such a shame his life went that route.

    Watching this, you're reminded how evil Palpatine truly is. For the most part, this was his plan all along, to have the ultimate apprentice/force of destruction serving him by having Anakin's life completely fall apart

    • @englishlady9797
      @englishlady9797 4 года назад +52

      Palpatine represented the most insidious form of evil (no pun intended) in the prequels. The evil that does not appear evil, but seems good. The Jedi, like everyone else, liked and trusted Palpatine for years. They fully approved of him establishing a relationship with Anakin from childhood, and sort of encouraged their friendship. If only they knew.
      Trouble is that by the time they did suspect him, Anakin was far too close to Palpatine. Asking him to spy on Palps was one of the worst choices they could have made. He was too connected and compromised. For supposedly wise people, they'd have been better to pick someone more remote and neutral.

      The moral of Anakins may be: keep creepy Middle Aged politicians who like to talk about The Force away from emotionally vulnerable and socially isolated preteen kids with abandonment issues.

    I have to wonder why he didn't just let himself die.
    Whether he hated himself too much to let himself escape through death, or his light side gave him just enough hope to continue forth- I can't imagine he stayed alive solely out of loyalty to Palpatine, or desire to kill Obi-Wan. He didn't know his children were alive, for all his knowledge, both they and their mother were among the long dead by his hands.
    I must say, I wouldn't have blamed him if he committed suicide.

      A big part of Anakin that tends to get skipped over is that he has a very powerful sense of justice. At least, his own corrupted sense of justice. He wanted to rule the galaxy. When you take away Padme, and Luke, all that's left is a broken man who wants to control the galaxy so that he'll never feel helpless again.

    • @nickmarciano1629
      @nickmarciano1629 3 года назад +12

      I think his personal emptiness is not necessarily meaninglessness (when he's busy), agreeing with the above comment in that on a day to day basis Anakin would likely justify his existence as a powerful and necessary tool of order. The thing he told Padme it was all for. Part of him needs this to be true. Deeper in this idea, his trauma, his loss and the distance from any vision he or anyone in his life ever could have possibly had for him (spare palapatine) probably leave him in a position where the remnant of Anakin before Mustafar that ultimately wins out in Return of the Jedi can't accept his death because it's a finality to his destruction. Both as an excuse and an extant hope, Vader rages against his own death. This makes his sacrifice all the more poignant

While I’ve now acquired a nice life for myself, I could’ve gone WAY farther than this, if I’d never had to fight my way outta a hole with a resented history by most honest working, law abiding citizens, considering they’re the ones that open doors of opportunity

    I can relate to anakin/Vader myself. I grew up a boy without a father. I wanted more to life and I wanted to save my mother. I eventually joined the military, and found a girl. But in the back of my mind I still wanted to save my mother. I eventually had two kids. And every decision I made it was the best and safety of my family. In a twisted I was lied to, lied on, and I lost everything and I mean everything. My thoughts remind me of everything that I loved and what I lost. I probably suffer from depression and choose not to acknowledge it like Vader.

      You guys truly never read ANYTHING about Star Wars.
      He didn't hate Obi-Wan for real. Early on, of course he'd chase him down when he still believed he was the reason Padme died, but his depression and weakness comes from the fact he slowly realized HE was the one at fault. His wife refused to follow him of her own free will and he ended up being the reason she died, his closest friend, someone who considered him a brother and loved him as one, ended up facing him and even crippled him after he actively begged him not to jump [lets never forget Obi-Wan actively asked Anakin not to try to jump because it was obvious he would've retaliated by having the high ground], his entire order was massacred by his hand, with Mace Windu even being killed in front of him.
      He lost everything because of his own action, even the woman he did all these things for. This is why he remembers it all and hates himself for it whenever he's in his meditation chamber.

    Used anger to overcome the fear of losing what he loved the most, then couldn't handle the reality that he, in fact, caused the lost of everything he loved, making him angry at his own self toward his failures, fueling the dark side within him and blinding his thoughts to overcome his pain and keep him alive, seeing his master as his only savior, the only ''friend'' that accepted what he has become, the only one he didn't lose. He was so in pain that he didn't manage to survive a few minutes when he turned back to the light and awakened. Using anger was the only way for him to stay alive... What a sad and painful life... Kylo Ren is starting to follow the same path. Thing his, he seems to realise slowly that he is causing his own destruction. That it is just way to hide weakness to survive, not to actually become stronger. Well this is how i see it.

    Vader feels to me like someone who had their fate stolen from them, he could have been the chosen one but his power was imprisoned in that suit, it held him back so much that he's definitely menacing, but what he could have been had he not been lured to the dark side is difficult to imagine.
    I always saw his story as endlessly tragic for this reason.

    I seem to recall an (now non-canon) incident where Vader was confronted with a manifestation (or clone, can't remember which) of Darth Maul. Maul was pretty handily handing him his ass up until he decided to impale himself along with Maul, resulting in the latter's defeat. Maul questioned Vader, asking what it was he hated enough to defeat him. Vader's response was himself.

      Schrödinger I remember this comic, I think Maul was a clone created by a Sith cult (at the Emperor's request to test Vader). The comic came out before Revenge of the Sith, which made the lines "what could you possibly hate so much to make you this powerful?" and "myself" even more memorable for me since we see Vader kill Padme (from a certain point of view). Well remembered.

    Speaking as a man who has had more than his fair share of crippling depression, I loved this video, as it expounded on the reality of what Vader had to live with for over twenty years. I loved the comic where he was confronted by Padme's ghost, as it showed the human side of him that fueled his power with rage, grief, guilt, sadness, and remorse. It's ironic that Vader's gift of fury that allowed him to slaughter so many in an inhumane rampage was ultimately fueled by the most human part of him: the ability to feel pain for his actions. The cognitive dissonance that he must have experienced must have been truly maddening, as having two personas from my own dissociative amnesia due to trauma is hard enough. For Vader, who does appear to suffer from dissociative identity disorder, the cognitive dissonance between the identities of Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker must have been comparable to a barrage of neutron stars all exploding in his mind in rapid succession.

    "Anakin!" A sweet voice called from the hall. "Anakin?" It called again. I looked away from the noon-day sun reflecting off the oceans of Naboo. Suddenly there in front of me was the love of my life, and my very lifeblood, Padame. "Ani? Did you hear me?" I gaped wide-eyed. Here she was. Standing right in front of me. Life, joy, and peace radiated around her. I slowly reached to brush a strand of hair from her face and felt her warm skin on my hand. "Oh...Padame..... I've missed you....." Padame laughed, "Ani? What do you mean? No one has gone anywhere." But before I could answer, Padame grasped my hand and said, "Come, Luke and Leia will be waiting." I didn't try to stop her. She lead me through the place where we had stayed a long time ago, though this time there were children's paintings on the walls, and toys laying about. The sign of a happy and well cared for home. I walked into another balcony where 2 small children were playing on the floor. Once I came into the room, the boy ran to my side, and the girl went into her mother's arms. The boy excitedly said, "Father! Tell me another Jedi story!" I smiled and said, "Luke-- my son..." The girl cut in calling out, "No! Father, tell us about the wars and your padawan!" I smiled and said,"Leia-- my daughter..." Padame interjected saying, "Children, children, father can tell us everything. He won't be going anywhere!" She laughed joyfully and looked deep into my eyes. I caught her gaze, and instantly her joy turned to horror as the happy household melted away, with strangers carrying away our children far away. A new scene of a molten planet surrounded us. I watched as my love confronted an old version of myself. "Anakin, all I want is your love. Come away with me." She pleaded with tears streaking down her face. I watched on as Padame said, "I don't know you anymore... Anakin, you are breaking my heart..... You are going down a path I cannot follow... I love you." I watched devastated as the old Anakin ruthlessly began to choke the life out of Padame. When he finally let her go, she fell to the floor limp and broken. I then was suddenly with Padame as she breathed her last words. She shakily said, "I know... I know there is still good in him..." I fell to the floor hard and placed my hand on hers. Slowly it grew cold. "Oh Padame.... what have I done? What have I become?"
    I gasped and bolted upright. Taking slow shaky breaths I recalled my dream which would haunt me forever. "All I want is your love." The words flew like arrows, pricing through my armor. I shook my head and got out of bed. I stared at my saber which had killed thousands. What had I become? Looking into a mirror, I saw the helmet of anger, hate, destruction, death, and evil strapped securely onto my head. Softly I said to myself, "There is nothing I can do. She's gone. I must move on." I moved from the mirror and lit my saber, and went onto another rampage of death. "I love you......" Her words still surge through my mind.

    I've always hated how his losses and how they effected him were kinda glossed over. All they've had to show for it is a controversial 'noooooooooo' moment, which didn't really show much even if you liked the scene. This is a guy who thought he lost his entire family, friends and even himself. We still need to see more reaction to such losses. I want to see exactly HOW Vader replaced his pain with pure hatred and anger, driving him to become a monster for almost 20 years.

    I feel sorry for him. Aside from being brutally battle damaged, and under extreme life support, he's constantly being haunted by nightmares of the past, from the horrible actions he has caused, to the things and people he has always loved, which are now long gone for good.
