yes, Anakin’s mind hasn’t been explored the way it should have. In TheCloneWars series we can see a little bit, but man, I wish we could see through his mind in more than damn theories.
Anakin says "Padme, save me" or something along those lines just as the helmet is being placed on his head. That's got to be the saddest moment from the trilogy.
In my opinion, his thoughts while burning were "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! OH GOD THIS HURTS!!!!!! AAAAAHHH!!!!!! HUH!!!!!!! HOW AM I SURVIVING THIS???!!!! IS THERE ANOTHER TRILOGY I'M IN???!!! OH GOD WHY??!!!!!! AAHH!!!"
Honestly, after all these years, Obi-Wan's line about Anakin being 'like a brother' and that he loves him - it is still so heartbreakingly sad. Possibly most powerful moment of the entire prequel trilogy.
Yet that fake love made him kill him and leave him to die a tortured death. It's called hypocrisy. He spoke the words, but his actions showed otherwise.
@@Ernestaxxo Dig deeper than what your eyes see. When someone tells you a story, that one telling the story will do it to make his side look good. So now, you cheer on the rebels who beguile people's wills and minds, who defend democracy that is corrupt and they do it like they think they would be God to decide over mankinds destiny, putting their head above yours and everybody else, acting like they would be better than you when infact they could not even discern Palpetine being a sith Lord right Infront of their faces. But Anakin could. And when they found out, they wanted to kill him and as always strikes the first strike, figures because they are murderers and corrupted. Oh i forgot to mention, they all follow and listen to a little demon troll that decieved them all... But you thought he was cute, not being able to speak clearly even.
@@Ernestaxxo So looking back to the scene where he slays the younglings, could you possibly imagine that scene backwards, what if it was a Jedi coming to slay younglings of the sith side, you would think that was ok... But because you hearken to the one telling and showing you the story without knowing the full truth you sided with the ones looking good. So would he allow him to slay more younglings? In this case Obi did not know better or even worse the truth might be that he did know better and thus Anakin hated him with his whole heart how they decieved mankind and twisted the mind of his wife, attacking him and talking bad about him behind his back. Always putting his head above Anakin, acting like he would be the better one, yet accusing Anakin for being and acting like he would be the one thinking he would know better and be better than others when infact he was the only one with the pure heart. For those who have eyes to see.
This scene... I’ve seen it hundreds of times. A kid I begged my parents to go see it in theaters (which I ended up doing 4 times lol) no matter how many times I watch it... it still makes my heart race. The most powerful scene in the whole series hands down
I believe Anakin intentions were never to fully join the dark side but to only learn about one ability that could only be learned from the dark side and he was doing all in the name of love but instead was ultimately blinded by hatred that killed love but love came back in a different form and saved him from his own prison
Vader is the strongest, most tragic villain ever. He committed atrocities to save his wife and unborn child, had his remaining organic limbs severed, burnt to a crisp, poorly reconstructed, and told that he killed his wife and child. The sole reason for everything he did was gone! After all of this, he rises form his ashes to become one of the most feared beings in the galaxy for 23 years, and he builds a castle where he lost everything! The force is cruel making Anakin/Vader lose so much just to fulfill his destiny. None of this would have happened if the Jedi accepted emotions and taught its members how to control their emotions! I might be alone in this, but I love Anakin/Vader.
Mentally strongest, in a way. He has endured so much that I doubt much of anything phases him at all anymore. To defeat him, you need to physically incapacitate him, and good luck doing that. Also, he is just incredibly good at surviving things.
geoffrobinson I don't think he meant it in that way. He's just describing the way of the Sith. What he means is that unlike Jedi, who try to mediate and find a middle ground, Sith only ever do things like saying "join me or die" and never trying to find a peaceful solution.
Obi-wan: "It's over Anakin, I have the high ground!" Anakin: "You underestimate my power" Obi-wan: "Don't try it!" Anakin: *Takes a step on to the rocks* Obi-wan: "oh"
Nobody thought about that including me. Why did he jump like that when could have just stepped into the mountain incline and walked up hill to meet Obi jumping like he did really is crazy
@@dillonstidham782 In fairness, having the high ground in a sword fight can give one an advantage. Anakin tried to eliminate that by jumping over Obi-Wan. Unfortunately for him, that backfired badly.
Because his rage over took his train of thought and thus wasn’t able to think of a better way off that hovering platform over the lava so he did the next best thing and that was to jump to obi-wan and try to swing at him but Obi-Wan had a better, more clearer defense then Anakin
Dutch3k5 that wasn't sad, that was just brutal. Anakin's story is truly tragic because it was just the worst possible outcome, he was born a slave, shipped off into child labour, he never saw his mother again, and the last knowledge has of her, is of her being murdered, the woman who loved him and birthed his children was destroyed, everyone who truly loved him as a savior was murdered by his own hands, everything he cared for was destroyed in the worst way, he had his limbs sliced from his body by his best friend and watched as the same man left him to slowly burn to death, and the entire time this was occurring he was being lied to and manipulated by someone who gave less than a shit about him, only taken advantage of and used to further their scheme. Anakin had virtually never enjoyed his life, he never experienced happiness, only glimpses of what a happy life could be, from his birth to his death, he was a tool, he was always been used by someone to progress their agenda, wether it was the Jedi or the sith and always had any attempt to express himself, his thought and beliefs immediately rejected, forced to never mention them again. his entire being was suppressed and stomped out. Anakin never had a life.
+Wat ? they are whiny bitches themselves, they dont understand, judgeging him so easly from there safety bubles. out of all the truely whiny charecters and people out there they had to label this one?
That's the thing: He couldn't. Not only was killing a defenseless opponent not the Jedi way, but Obi-Wan had practically raised Anakin. They were friends for 20+ years. Even after watching Anakin slaughter everyone, seeing for himself what he had become, Obi-Wan simply couldn't destroy his brother. He would much rather leave him to die on his own, turning his back on him, as cruel as it was.
You know, Anakin has to be the gravest victim in modern movie cinema. He was a slave boy, who was lied to and deceived and finally left to die by his father-like mentor. And if that was not enough, he is then told that he was the reason for his love's death. And then purposely built in a suit of armor that was a living cell. DAMN!
I always wonder what would've happened to Anakin if Obi-Wan decided to safe him after defeating him. Anakin was not a threat to him anymore with only one limb.
Yes. But also Obi Wan was a strong believer in fate, so he nor saved or killed Anakin / Vader. He let fate decide whether Anakin / Vader would survive or not.@@janmartinzamudio3031
Matthew Caughey people like you are actually awesome. Unfortunately, I relate too much to anakin, which is one reason to why i watch alot of these vids. But regardless, if I were in that position, I wouldve either watched him burn, or kill him for good myself. Relentless is not always a positive
It hurts to hear him say "I hate you" there was real venom in his voice And it breaks me every time I hear Obi Wan tell Anakin that he loved him, you could tell how genuine he was when he said so
Very gruesome when it's put like that. This scene alone always gets me choked up, cuz it's the moment where Anakin realizes everything he did, every sacrifice he made for Padme, was for nothing.
It killed me as a kid and kills me how to watch it, I know the prequels aren’t the best of the Star Wars films but the Revenge of the Sith is probably my favorite prequel just because it’s so shocking and dark!
A lot more useful than this video, which basically states stuff that anyone who paid even a small amount of attention to the prequels would've known what his thoughts were.
Not quite the same thing. Obi-Wan was right when he said “Only a Sith deals in absolutes”. The Sith crave power and will stop at nothing to obtain it. There is no negotiating with Sith. You either agree with them and you’re an ally, or you don’t agree with them and they will kill you. That’s an absolute. The “do or do not. There is no try“, isn’t the same because Yoda is teaching and correcting Luke of the choices he makes. “Trying” is Luke mentally setting himself up to fail because he’s going to hesitate and is not going to put as much effort into it. What Yoda is setting is a challenge to Luke - if your mind thinks you are trying, you are not actually achieving. If your mind thinks you are actually doing the thing you want to do - there's a greater chance of success. And that is what Yoda was trying to convey to Luke.
I can totally relate to Anakin as he was desperate to save Padme. His turn to the dark side was only just because of his intense love. He already experienced his pain from losing his mom. If only Jedi council (including Obiwan) could have a little more open mind for him to allow visit his mom or letting him become a master. If I were Anakin, I would have also thought that the Jedi council was jealous of me. Anakin was so talented at everything.
Whatever you think of Episode III, the movie _at least_ had the makings of a masterpiece. But for people who actually like Episode III (such as myself), the movie *IS* a masterpiece!
@Joseph Mullaney I thought Palps was pretty cool. I like the idea that he died aboard the death star and his spirit went back into his decayed body, they did a good job showing us just enough of him to get the point across.
@JOSEPH MULLANEY I mean... it's a fantasy story about space wizards.. with magic and puppet characters. I don't think anyone needs to get heated over it. sure not everything in star wars is great but at least we have it for generations to come?
@JOSEPH MULLANEY I show my age here. I saw New Hope in the theater. Yes I was 3, but the movie had an instant fan. The Mandalorian is perfect, classic SW before The Mouse destroyed it with the last three abominations. I was totally against getting Disney +, but my husband snuck and got it. I guess his love of SW out weighted his hate for Disney. It's a great series and if you are this passionate about Canon and classic SW, you will love the Mandolorian. This is the way.
Damn, Anakin’s screaming at 5:01 while the droids are operating on him.......god..........I can’t even *BEGIN* to imagine how much agony that he was in. *sigh* and all he wanted was to save Padme. He went from a respected Jedi Hero.....to this: a broken man who had everything taken from him. His mother, wife, children and even Obi Wan, his best friend/brother as Obi Wan says, all gone. Damn. Just insane. Edit: jesus fucking christ, you guys thanks for the likes!!!! :D
No, man. I'm right there with you. Watching this, I had a permanent sad frown. Like Star Wars Theory wrote above, Vader is truly a dark, sad, pitiful character (or is that Anakin I speak of?) God, it's sad....his demise. LOVED this video, and love Vader/Anakin for all they are and all they aren't.
his emotional pain was far greater than his physical pain. he did everything he could to protect the woman he loved and in the end she died anyway. it never would have happened if it weren't for Palpatine causing his illusions
Anakin's story is so tragic. Like, all of my friends who like star wars don't really understand how complex Darth Vader's backstory is. These videos are honestly so intriguing to me because you can really see what drives Anakin. Love is one of the strongest emotions ever, and it can either be your savior, or your doom.
That's actually canon. George tweeted about it after this theory wa brought to his notice. He said he was surprised someone picked up on that subtle reference to the other film.
One tiny detail to note about the transformation scene in the movie: when Vader's helmet is locked in, if you listen closely enough, you can hear his heart beat stop briefly before restarting. Furthermore, Sideous had no way of knowing what Padme's condition was. For him to know without a doubt that Anakin's wife was dead meant that he must have used the force to drain Padme's lifeforce into Vader to keep him alive.
Well a scream is basically a way of saying, "no." But it makes me wonder, does his suit try to translate other non-language sounds he makes? Like, what if he sneezes, what does a sneeze translate to?
He probably did say no but in a more harsh, louder, and sympathetic way. The suit made his voice sound more calmly. In reality that “no” would’ve sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
I'm sorry that's not the high ground wa... I mean the jedi way. you know what I mean. I'm saying that I've got the high ground and I won so... high ground
I always thought it was cold and telling of Palpatine’s true motives that he tells Anakin “in your anger YOU SEEMED TO HAVE KILLED HER.” It’s so cruel and intentional, this guy has lost so much, tell him his wife is dead (and child presumably dead) but I see no reason for him to have told him THEN, at that moment, he was to blame for her death. But that goes to show the manipulation of Palpatine...he wanted Anakin to forever hate himself and feel so broken.
Your reading gives a whole new view of him screaming "No!" The thought of not only Padme but also his child really compliments his raw sorrow at that moment.
7:27 holy freakin....dude, despite Vader being basically burned alive, he's still able to use the force even tho his body is scorched and injured. Damn.
I think Obi-Wan's line was intentional, to blur the lines between the two. We saw a lot in the movies that there is little-to-no difference between the Jedi and the Sith, they are both morally grey. Take for example the scene where Windu confronts Palpatine. Who was in the right? A Jedi who wanted to kill a man, purposefully denying his trial, or a soon-to-be Sith defending him?
This is great. I have always wondered why the hate for Episode 3. I thought it was great, how could it have been better? I thought both actors were amazing. The only thing that always bugged me was when the "medical capsule" was taking Anakin into the building there was no cover on it, so the rain was pouring on him, which must have been torture.
yes , but the dark side of the force and his sheer hatred / anger kept him alive (as said in the video). If you know who Darth Sion was then u should understand what im trying to say.

I heard somewhere the "official" story as to how he survived long enough for the ship to get there is through the force
Nah I think he means despite the damage he was still capable of screaming, like he would've still felt pain but the damage to the lungs and possible his vocal cords means he shouldn't be able to make large enough sounds.
In my opinion he's the most intriguing character in cinematic history.

@@undertherainbow777 was he meant to allow him to slay more younglings?

I believe Anakin intentions were never to fully join the dark side but to only learn about one ability that could only be learned from the dark side and he was doing all in the name of love but instead was ultimately blinded by hatred that killed love but love came back in a different form and saved him from his own prison
I think he was tryna be the chosen one aka be a grey force weirder but the Jedi stopped it
Vader is the strongest, most tragic villain ever.
No. What you explained is exactly why the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker works so well.
ya fucking kidding me Vader couldn't move his hand perfectly he couldnt move his body well anymore u u tell us he is the strongest sith lol
Mentally strongest, in a way. He has endured so much that I doubt much of anything phases him at all anymore. To defeat him, you need to physically incapacitate him, and good luck doing that. Also, he is just incredibly good at surviving things.
He was a WEAKLING WHO SUCCUMBED TO EMOTION! YOU WILL ACCEPT THIS!!
Jonathan Shreve I like him a lot too, such a complex character. While the prequels are generally looked down upon, they tell a very interesting story.
obi-wan: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."
Anakin: "That was just an absolute."
obi-wan: "D'oh!"
no, theres more than 1 option there
geoffrobinson I don't think he meant it in that way. He's just describing the way of the Sith. What he means is that unlike Jedi, who try to mediate and find a middle ground, Sith only ever do things like saying "join me or die" and never trying to find a peaceful solution.
An absolute means theirs only 1 outcome, do or do not means there's two, doing and not doing. In no way is that an absolute

Sith meditate. They just don't do it the same way Jedi do.
Detective Bohobe I said mediate not meditate. As in trying to peacefully solve a problem between two things.

@@dillonstidham782 In fairness, having the high ground in a sword fight can give one an advantage. Anakin tried to eliminate that by jumping over Obi-Wan. Unfortunately for him, that backfired badly.
How it should have ended

Jake Lee that would be when Batman got his ass handed to him by bane. No music. Just the sounds of bones breaking. That was tough to watch
Dutch3k5 that as well
Dutch3k5 that wasn't sad, that was just brutal.

The entire series after this point could’ve been avoided had Obi Wan done the humane thing and mercy killed Anakin.

Yoda is a sith?!? Makes sense. Most critical time for the jedi, and he was like, I'm going to my swamp.
@JOSEPH MULLANEY I mean... it's a fantasy story about space wizards.. with magic and puppet characters. I don't think anyone needs to get heated over it. sure not everything in star wars is great but at least we have it for generations to come?
@JOSEPH MULLANEY so, whatcha think of the Mandalorian ? Oh, and I would heartily agree with your rant. Thanks.
Anakin's story is so tragic. Like, all of my friends who like star wars don't really understand how complex Darth Vader's backstory is. "OW" indeed.
You guys know that saying *"Wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire"*
Well, meet Obi-wan.
Maybe he already pissed before going to fight Anakin and just didn’t have anything left in the tank.
