How could all those workers think it was ok to beat a baby elephant or continually beat any elephant. It is beyond cruel to take the baby elephant away from the mother and not allow her to even touch her baby. I am so happy Ringling Bros. Circus was basically put out of business.

OK so I dont think Shirley and the rest of us are missing much, Ricardo was one ugly baby yuck! Not to mention clumsy and useless, he wasn't good for business. Anyway I know working and business and making a profit is something very strange for most PETA members but these elephants are business property . I believe they deserve to be treated humanely but the way this goofball narrator sounds, you'd think it was a bridal shower for a human. There is zero emperical evidence that these animals have the emotional capacity and intelligence of humans, this is nothing more than theory and asumtions on your part probably to increase donations. They are there for entertainment and to turn a profit, us humans have to work and earn our way everyday. They need swift and harsh training to be safe around humans , they are quite dangerous animals. In the wild they run rampages through villages destroying property and killing crops and humans sometimes, Id much rather see them in this capacity, productive and safe.

After she gave birth to Ricardo the mother must have been in incredible pain and desperate to touch her newborn. Humans are extremly cruel. I am not going to the circus the zoo, a dolfinarium. At a Young age I already knew that robbing an animal of there freedom, was something that In didn't want to be a part of. Instead I donate and try to do what I can to help animals to live a free life

And you wonder why elephants rebel and attack their handlers? Elephants are intelligent and majestic animals. When a handler hurts and abuses elephants and baby elephants he/she needs to be prosecuted. I was a policeman in California for 31 years and I have seen animal cruelty laws change from misdemeanor to Felony and if I caught anyone hurting any animals like that, I would not hesitate to arrest them and let the DA prosecute. I would not want to see any handler killed but if they were, I would have to say they brought it on their selves. This does not go just for elephants but any performing animal at the circus. Sometimes, I think PETA goes overboard on some of their allegations but after viewing this and other videos, I am in total agreement regarding the elephants, horses, dogs, monkeys, lions, tigers & etc.
Have these hellish places been shut down? It said they were made to pay $20,000. Where did this go? Why were they allowed to keep torturing these beautiful creatures after they had been fined for abuse?
As far as I'm aware, only Ringling. Other US animal circuses haven't been shutdown.
I am not sure that an organization like this would give up their animals readily. I do not trust that the new 'sanctuary' they have sent their Ellie's to in Florida will give them a better life either. This is a big money making operation and they will not give up on that easily. Bear this in mind and keep sharing these videos - leopards do not change their spots.

Can we do ringling bros animal sanctuary instead of an animal circus where they have many thousands of hectares of land and a shelter to lie in. May they have a shed where elephants have babies to bond with.
A huge lake for elephants to swim in, animal loving staff and loads of privacy and treats. We can stop animal abuse and provide happy sanctuary life for the rescued ones.
You know...all terrible abusive behavior notwithstanding, and while feeling certain that if I paid closer attention to the video, I would certainly learn Ringling’s reason for separating “teen mom” elephant from her newborn calf, I don’t quite get their decision. If this is all about Ringling controlling every move, behavior, instinct, etc. straight from the womb, I get it, but that’s only because I probably know as much as they do about an elephant’s world, which is pretty much nothing. My excuse: I don’t have a supposed 100 years of animal training, discipline and performance entertainment under my belt. Apparently, neither does Ringling.

I'm wondering if this is the same Shirley that is at the Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary. If it is, she is now free to be an elephant. They and PAWS are wonderful organizations that help these poor, beautiful creatures and protect them from mankind.

I have so many problems with whats happening in this video. First of all babies are stripped away from their mothers. All babies need their mothers it doesn't take a damn genius to know that. Also, why the heck are people laughing when this poor elephant is drowning? And then a Ringling trainer pops up from the water (after forcing the baby into deeper water) like "Oh no". Yea you drowned a baby elephant, idiot. Not to mention the fact that they don't have veterinary care for their baby animals... How disgusting.

Have you noticed most of these so called trainers work in groups with weapons? What cowards. It's a shame the elephants can't charge into and take out a few of these cruel b______ds. At 3:18 the elephant that drowned it is so heartbreaking but at least you won't be abused anymore. I guess God took him out of his misery before his misery got really bad.

ugh i cant get over it! its so sad!! makes me so mad im so glad i have never gone to any of those circus! when i was born they gave me a certificate to go for free my entire life! deff will never go to those types of circus! the US needs to do something about this ASAP!

I can agree to this video. I saw this type of treatment to elephants with RINGLING BROS. CIRCUS. Everything you see on this video is true. not proud of being associated with RINGLING BROS. FOR THIS REASON and its not just RINGLING BROS.Its all the circus and the owners of animal in the circus. If they perform badly they will get beaten it sad.

Seeing these videos makes me actually open my eyes and lets me see the cruel world us humans somewhat created. I also want to help with animal cruelty but i dont know how or where to start... PETA is great for making these videos and exposing places/name brands that use animals as test subjects and/or for entertainment!
