A witness in three PetSmart stores saw sick or injured animals denied badly needed veterinary care. The billion-dollar company also left sick animals alone during holidays and a hurricane and bought animals from a supplier once busted for cruelty.

I’ve always wondered why the animals at my local pet smart were so scared
You're so right nibbles was laid back but bibbles use to scream try to bite ppl etc I got him trained I showed him love & affection he now enjoy company growing up as a child I had the pets hamster's guinea pigs dove's cats ball python when I trained them all they were so loveable they were treated like royalty with lots of TLC this 🌎 is sick

This happens at petco too... My friend works there and their animals are always sick. She had a baby chinchilla die the other day... And they also refuse to take them to the vet. ☹️😠 She desperately wants to quit but she can't be jobless during a pandemic.

Its best to spread awareness for peta and set up a petition. This hits me hard of the bhumane treatment to animals.
Its the same when it cones to thoroughbred racing. When money is involved, most likely animals are abused and that's EVERYWHERE.

Not every because I brought all 5 of my Guinie pigs from a pet shop and 2 rabbits and a hapster and they were perfectly healthy and even lived over the natural age to die some of the are still alive at 10 years old

Not to mention the abusive housing the stores keep them in before you buy them, and the enclosures they tell people to buy.. :(
No you can be a witness my sister works at one as a groomer not on the floor but whenever I go pick her up i check out out the animals. I've caught a couple deaf fish and two sick hamsters. When customers start complaining they will do better.

I used to work at Petsmart. I was an early morning stocker, I would be working near the fish area and I asked/saw floating Beta fish. Pet care person said you go around and pick them out and throw them out every morning to clear them out. Beta fish seem to suffer the most in those tiny cups. I saw some floating at the top some days even while the store was open. Asked how the associate felt, said "You get used to it." The beta fish literally get thrown into a dumpster after they are shrunk in the system. She showed me the back room where the "sick" animals are. "This is were we keep the "sick" animals. Or they just slowly die back here 'cause they don't look good for sale. Said one parrot was sitting in the back room for over a month without medical attention. Mouse was sitting there for over a week with an eye infection, the list went on. The back room was literally where animals go to die. It was horrible.
Had I known this, I would have called the police

Milkias Simon Feeding rodents to snakes is certainly different than letting them starve to death. Snakes have to eat, they need food too. Some snakes do not eat thawed. The only option for some snakes is live feeding.

We had our miniature Doberman bathed at pet smart. They did good first few times. Then we started getting our dog back with a strange smell. We did some investigating, come to find out they would leave him in the dryer too long. We would get him back and he would be panting like I never seen a dog pant before. Especially since it was winter time. DO NOT USE THE PIECES OF SHIT. RHEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL/FRIEND!! THIS HAPPENED IN DECATUR AL. WE HAVEN'T BEEN BACK SINCE AND NEVER WILL. Sarge lived a very good life. He was 13 when he passed of natural causes. We miss you sarge!!!! Love you dude!!!!!

Petsmart doesn’t use heated kennel dryers. They only use kennel dryers that circulate the air around the room. Not only that, but they don’t kennel dry senior pets, stress-sensitive pets, or breathing challenged pets.

We have a female tan/white Pomeranian and we took her to PetSmart for the first time to get her groomed and not even 30 minutes later we got a call that she bit one of the groomers and we were shocked because she only bites people if she feels threatened like if they hit her or hurt her. The manager said that she was very aggressive. As soon as she saw me she ran towards me and I picked her up and I notice that she was limping and she couldn't walk on her left hind leg. I held her in my arms and she was shaking in fear and growling at the workers. I'm never taking her back a few months later I saw a report on the news about how PetSmart abuses animals in grooming😢😠 I hope they rot in hell

Wow, that's a bit harsh that they would do that. I got my guinea pig from Petsmart, and she was *scared* when she came to us. I changed her life around, she is living happily and loves me and never bites me.
A similar thing happened to my friend when she took her female koi Betta to pet smart for whatever reason she was healthy but came back to her sick and dying with shredded fins and ick.
How would they do such a thing to such a cute animal!? I just watched a documentary on how they abuse and freeze the animals to death if they don't like them! Just imagine if you were that animal!!!! I feel so bad for your dog 🐕🐶🐕

This breaks my heart. There's a local pet store close to my house and I bought two adorable Siamese mice that were about two weeks old. They were being sold as live food and they easily had over 50 mice stacked together, all looking very sad. I've had my two mousies for two months now and I've spoiled them a lot to keep them so happy. I feel good for saving them.

My sister works at a different petsmart. The people there are extremely kind, and care tons about their animals. Everyone there seems to love their job and always host adoption events. They do dog training, and some daily check ups to make sure your pet is in good condition! I always feel great when I adopt a pet from there!

Yeah, I find that the quality of care the animals recieve vary greatly from PetSmart to PetSmart. The three locations in my city all have different vibes.

Exactly... I work at a petsmart and we let one of our managers know if any of the animals get to a point of poor health and they call a vet and we do everything we can to get them back to health. Not all stores are the same!!!!!!!!

The problem is the local petsmart managers and even the CEOs don’t really pull the strings. Petsmart is a corporation built to maximize profits at all costs, so ethical care requirements that lower profits are weeded out systematically. Petsmart will only change their ways when there is financial reason to do so, so the only way to prevent these crimes is government regulation or mass boycotts or violent attacks, none of which are likely to happen. Such is the nature of capitalism.

I work at petsmart and can say our animals are way better taken care of at my store. We don’t hesitate to take them to a vet if they get sick. I wish other stores would do better. I make sure our animals would never be neglected like this.

I bought two hamsters from a petsmart. One of them died from a bleeding tumor and I tried to treat it with antibiotics but it was too late. His brother died from an unexplained reason. So I bought another one and he lasted A MONTH before dying unexpectedly. I hate chain pet stores.
Jessy the Cheeto yeah me to I bought a hamster at pet smart and i took it to the vet immediately because it had wet tail ,cancer and was suffering from a serious injury because he was throwing up blood sadly he couldn’t make it so I adopted a new hamster 🐹 and it was perfect

Jessy the Cheeto yeah I got a hamster from there. He died of a skin disease. I later got 2 rats from a local pet store and they are very happy and healthy animals. They got a lot of care at the pet shop and they’re very local. I think local shopping is better than chain stores.

bunny07 N well for starters don't think that a gold fish is a good starter but if I had to pick I would go with a dwarf hamster but it depends on how much space you have, how long are gone from home,are you willing to care for a pet through out its life span,do you have the time and money for the pet,and do have any one to care for it while on vacation or (hopefully you won't do this like my cousin did) rehoming them if you can no longer care for it but most importantly DO YOUR RESEARCH!

i work at a petsmart and not all of them are like this. we actually take very good care of our animals and immediately take them to the vet if anything seems even a little off about them.

You gave them money which is what they wanted and they replaced it with another hamster that could be possible sick or get adopted into a horrible home. Yes, I went to my local PetSmart and asked to see what happened to this one runt guinea pig that I saw the day before. The manager lied for awhile then finally showed me he was put in a utility closet with another guinea pig whom he said had ringworm. He said their vet was treating them but I was worried about them. I went back a few days later and the manager at that time wouldn't let me see them. So I refuse to shop at PetSmart anymore. All their products are defunct anyway. All their products are just assinine. I don't have a better word for them, other than they shouldn't be in the pet business.

Princess Sugar I don't agree with trespassing or locking yourself to an animal processing line. I do agree with holding people accountable for how they treat their pets in stores. Some animals are bred and raised to be slaughtered. Others are bred and raised for companionship. Neither deserve mistreatment while alive, but trying to stop the processing of food because you don't agree with eating it is outrageous and simple minded.

Well I have a Petco story
We got a hamster from Petco and the woman told us no care. We did hold him n stuff within 2 days which was wrong, I admit. He got wet tail. However Petco said take him back to Petco and they’ll take care of him. So yeah. We took him back. The next day, they said was Thursday and they said he’ll be seeing a vet either today or Friday. N3ver saw a vet Thursday, Friday, Saturday and he died Sunday. We had him for 5 days. We never would be allowed to cremate him and have his remains with us, cause Petco employees said we had to return him like a return you do in Target, so he technically wasn’t ours when he died. He never saw a vet, and it was clear he was not treated, or wasn’t receiving proper care. Stick to buy from breeder, small local pet stores, ect.

I have got my cat from pet smart. A tabby, was 6 months old, Mitzi cat. When we first got her, she was so scared. Once we got her out of her kennel, she right away ran and went under the couch. We gave her some food and water just incase she gets out. When it was morning, we saw she ate all her food and she was looking right out the window. We tried to let her adapt to her new home but it took 4 months too just be able to move freely. We got her to the vet several times, and it was always different ones. They said that she was a shy cat. She also never wore her collar. This one time, we put her a collar that had a bell to it, she was running around the house in circles and was so scared. My parents told me she will be fine. After awhile, she pulled her collar off and was playing with the carpet and stretching. She actually has never had an infection, and we had her for 1 year now. She isn’t really an indoor cat. She leaves the house for 1 hour and returns with one of her buddies, he has black and white fur. Her friend seems to trust us and the cat doesn’t have fleas (we checked several times, and it was pretty surprising that he didn’t have any black flea eggs which was good. We didn’t take him a bath though cus he probably has a owner! Cus he is so clean all the time. My cat had surgery before we got her, it is called neutering (female). It basically doesn’t make a cat pregnant (it could be for dog too). So she couldn’t get pregnant thankfully. But now, my cat is okay! She isn’t scared anymore and has gotten used to us. But once i got my cat, i said that “If no one would have gotten the cat just because she is from pet smart.. who would have?” So i just want to say that if no one is gonna get the animals from pet smart, they could just be transferred to another place. And who knows.. it might be the worst places.. I don’t even want to mention. But i swear.. the people at pet smart are evil.. my god😔🙏 please pray for all of the animals who have not been fed, have been experimented on, abandoned, not being helped.. and etc.. These animals deserve life just like us! Also.. #STOPANIMALTESTING

I know I’m late but I bought a hamster in petco and when I took care of it when it went to the toilet it was blood... so I gave a GOOD food like hamster food and water and vegetables (carrots lettuce broccoli) and it didn’t pee or poo blood!☺️ I will never buy any cruel animal products again!! I work at a PetSmart and I’ve never experienced any of this. It might be because we have a vet in store but we as associates are allowed to take any animal over to the vet. If we even do much as see a single crusty eye we will immediately take it to our sick room and get an appointment and then inform our manager. As far as our suppliers go I don’t have any insight on them but at our stores I know we try incredibly hard to watch out for our animals

This video is VERY true. I worked at PetSmart and despite us having a vet and being able to take pets whenever, we still got these animals from mills. They would constantly arrive with eye infections, respiratory problems, ear infections, ring worm, so many hamsters would be jammed into a shipment box that they would beat each other up and arrive with their necks torn open and tails ripped off, birds with broken wings, etc. the first 2 weeks I worked there I walked to the vet with a dead guinea pig and the first thing out of their mouth was “what did you kill this time?” And then being lead to a huge floor freezer filled with dead animals from PetSmart. And I would consider my PetSmart on the good side, because we did what we could. These animals would literally just arrive to us sick. So just because you’re capable of taking care of them properly and have a vet inside your Petsmart, doesn’t mean Petsmart isn’t shit behind the scenes when it comes to where these animals originally come from.
I was so freaking angry when that man HIT THOSE POOR HAMSTERS OF THAT TABLE!!! Petsmart really should treat their animals better because ALL of those animals are lIVING BREATHING

I saw two hamsters fighting in their cage and I ask them to be separated and the next day I came back to the same store and one was bleeding and one had a bleeding paw and the store employee told me some incorrect hamster facts but I know all petsmarts are not like this because I went to another one and all the animals seemed healthy and happy and the store employees were a little better educated in the animals and I think it really depends on the store manager and how passionate about animals and not the money

My first Roborovski hamster was locked in a small plastic box with her siblings, with no substrate or nothing to play with: just a tiny bowl of dirty water and sunflower seeds. All of them were extremely sick: you could see clearly they had an eye infection and that they were going to die soon. Luckily someone called the authorities..it took them one week to investigate and confiscate all the animals. Sadly almost all of the hamsters died, but one of them went to foster care. I decided to adopt her: they told me she was pregnant (as she was locked with her male siblings), but still very weak due to the infection. I tried my best to keep her alive..I spent day and night caring for her and soon after she gave birth she passed away. All of her children were adopted and I kept one with me. I still think about her day and night: how would her life be like if I didn't save her? Where would her child be if the authorities didn't close that place? She was a warrior, she kept fighting till the end. I'll never forget her

You can still do something man. You’re never too young. The thing you can do is not support petsmart. If you get a pet buy from a professional breeder who knows what they’re doing. Always shop local and support family owned businesses. There’s this store called “strictly feathers” where I’m from and they only sell birds. I don’t have a bird but it’s a local place so if I ever do get a bird that’s where I’m going.

Yo I had two gerbils like 4 years ago I got from pestsmart and when we noticed that they had diarrhea so we took them to pet smart, I had no idea what was wrong with them. My brother kept saying not to worry, they’re taking them to the intensive care unit. But what I got back after handing over my sick gerbils was just a new gerbil. they didn’t want to answer when we asked where they put the originals. I forgot about the whole situation but after I saw this video I now realize that something was very wrong.

Petsmart gets their cats from shelters, not mills. I suggest going to a nearby shelter if you do not want to support petsmart, and adopt a senior, or an older cat. Please please please adopt a senior. Kittens will always get adopted, but seniors who got dumped or abandoned usually stay there for months or life. I'm gonna be honest, I support PETA and I signed up for their student program. Now I don't agree with everything about PETA exactly and I'm not gonna bully them over it because I know they still make an effort for animals, but I support them 100% with them wanting to shut down pet stores and circuses. As an associate at a Petsmart I am sickened to see the ways other locations treat their animals. I will not deny that the breeders they come from do not take good care of their animals, however once they come into our care we do all that we can for them. At our location, everyone in pet care has a genuine love of animals and when we receive underweight or sick animals we immediately take them into iso and give them care. In my 5 months working at my location, I have only witnessed two anoles die while in our care in iso due to mites.

I was gonna say, our PetSmart isn't nearly this bad. All of their cats come from local shelters, and the employees there are regular people who know what they're taking about when it comes to animals. The only animals that I think would complain are the snake-food mice and crickets
My girlfriend is also an employee for Petsmart and all ill animals that she comes into contact with are being treated or will see a vet within 72 hours of any signs of illness. Cats come from the Shelter and if they are not ready to be adopted (kennel cough/illness) they are returned to the human society to receive further treatment. Its a disgusting lack of care and respect to these animals AND those stores not only need New management and new staff but they should have a STORE SCORE on the outside of their building, allowing Pet Parents to decide whether or not thats a safe location to take their pets.
