Kandy is the word that the British shortened for Kanda Uda Rata, which translated, means the City atop Mountains- the administrative capital of the then Ceylon, from where the king ruled at the time. It was too much of a mouthful for the British, so it became Kandy.

'Bele' is a very populer fruit in Sri Lanka ..
Aegle marmelos, also known as Bael or Indian gooseberry, is a tree native to the Indian subcontinent. It is highly valued for its medicinal properties and nutritional benefits. The fruit of the tree is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, and it is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat various ailments such as indigestion, fever, and skin disorders. The tree's wood is also used for making furniture and musical instruments.

A slight correction from a humble biologist; Indian Gooseberry (which is actually Phyllanthus emblica) is a completely different plant to Bael. Fun fact; we often consider them to be sacred in the Buddist/Hindu communities. Oh and, the tea made from Bael is delicious. A must try.

@@FrugalTravellers lot of people doesn't know the value and cut down the tree for various purpose ( it's a big tree and not growing in wild much ,so more people less land ,less trees) and also little trees taking for sinhala medical treatment ( roots)

Wood apple grows in the wild in the jungle. Once I took a plant to a country in South East Asian region and found that it wouldn’t grow there.

The sound of Wood Apple doesn’t sound that great but I’m sure it tastes delicious. It’s great to listen to you both speak honestly about the food. Your videos are wonderful to watch as you are so cheerful. Thank You.

We really appreciate your kind words, and your positivity and support 🙏🤗 Lee quite liked wood apple...I was just a bit confused by something that looked so much like chocolate but tasted so different 😁🤣 From what we've heard from so many viewers, it's actually excellent for a healthy body, and I wish we'd had more wood apple smoothies! Have a great weekend 🙌😍 ~ Mandy

      It’s certainly an acquired taste.
The Wood Apple drink is traditionally made using coconut milk and not with water.
When made right (wood apple flesh, coconut milk, sugar and salt in correct proportions) it’s absolutely heavenly.
Specially after a good Sri Lankan meal 😁

Yes, it has to be with coconut milk. It is bit sour but with coconut milk and sugar it is fantastic. I think the other fruit is Belli. It can also be taken as a juice it is very healthy
