High Tea at the Most Exclusive Colonial Hotel in SRI LANKA

- HIGH TEA IN NUWARA ELIYA, also known as Little Britain... and what could be more British, in this most English of places in Sri Lanka? We had to try this afternoon extravaganza for ourselves, and see what High Tea was like at the quintessential colonial hotel, The Grand, Nuwara Eliya.
The Grand Hotel is almost 200 years old, and it was built as the private residence of Sir Edward Barnes, the 5th governor of Ceylon (the former British name for Sri Lanka). After 68 years as a private residence, it was converted into the luxury hotel you can see today!
The Grand Hotel has so much to offer, and we thoroughly enjoyed the high tea and the beautiful gardens. The service was exceptional, and we would like to say a huge thank you to the staff at the Grand Hotel.

Nuwara Eliya was an amazing experience for us and the Grand Hotel really made it special.
We went on a family trip to Nuwara Eliya back in 2020...my dad treated us all to high tea at the Grand Hotel. It was also a damp, drizzly evening. That was my final trip with him, because a few months later he contracted covid and passed away in 2022 after a hard battle with multiple post-covid complications. He was 80 years young.
Watching this brings back so many bittersweet memories. Dad loved Nuwara Eliya...the weather, the old colonial buildings, the parks, the pure Ceylon Tea...now i just cherish those memories with him because they are all i have.

this place is not exactly my cup of tea (lol) but all that yummy food & tea for $15 usd what a steal..back home in usa youd have to sell your soul to eat at a place like this..and the grounds are so beautiful & staff seems very friendly too. also,i love milk in my tea as well & im not english (obviously) .peace
We don't normally go to these sort of establishments either because they are normally way out of our league price wise so it was nice to have an affordable splurge. The tea in Sri Lanka is delightful. 😊

Nuwara Eliya wasn't on our list at first, but we are so thankful we were able to visit as it is such a lovely place!
It was such an amazing experience having High Tea at a hotel that the Queen had visited, and yes, the topiary and gardens were spectacular 😍
We had such a wonderful time, and it was a brilliant day out... such a lovely treat.

Sri Lanka is famous growing coffee as well, my grand father has worked there as Secretary when British staff members were there, my Mum remember going over there visit dad, after school.
I have been once in 1999. But garden are so much more beautiful now with plant sculptures!!!! I would love to go with my mom ne last time have high tea for one.

Visually one of the best videos that you have done on the island. After all that unlimited tea, coffee & hot chocolate you must have been flying high on caffeine.

Yes, I'm normally a builder's tea in a cracked mug kind of guy but it's nice to indulge once in a while and there's no better place really. 😊 Mandy felt right at home there too. 😍

Sri Lanka is an amazing country to travel around. As it has so many different landscapes in one small island, there's something for everyone, from beaches to jungles to tea plantations up in the mountains. Nuwara Eliya was such a welcome relief from the heat of the lowlands.

Wonderful! Yes I recall very well having high tea at the Grand Hotel. I recall the wall with all the teas shown at 7:00 and 15:15. It brings back such wonderful memories. Such a beautiful and unexpected place in Sri Lanka. It was a unique experience but thought the high tea portions were a bit small for me. I am a glutton after all. 😂
BTW-the best scones I ever had were in New Zealand. 🇳🇿
That's great that you had such a pleasant experience there also. 😊 It certainly is unique and really enjoyable to do. I thought that the portions were rather small too but we'd just eaten a large, late lunch so were still very satisfied. It's all about the ambience of such a historic place.

@@FrugalTravellers These trees are Cypress Trees. During Christmas, these trees are decorated and used as a Christmas Tree. The smell of these trees brings in the Christmas vibe.
