Corporal Gamini Kularatne PWV, SLSR (S/34553) (Sinhala: ගාමිණී කුලරත්න; 4 September 1966 - 14 July 1991) (commonly known as Hasalaka Gamini or Hasalaka Sri Lankan Hero) was a Sri Lankan soldier. He was the first recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya, the highest award for gallantry awarded by the Sri Lanka Army for his actions during the Elephant Pass Siege, in which he was killed. On the night of 10 July 1991 over 5000 LTTE fighters surrounded the 600 strong army garrison located at Elephant Pass. The base was known as the gateway to the northern Jaffna Peninsula. Enlisted to the Sri Lankan Army Sinha Regiment Sixth Battalion as a Rifleman, Lance Corporal Gamini Kularatne, along with the rest of his regiment, was tasked with watching for possible LTTE infiltrators.
As dusk fell the LTTE launched several human wave attacks. Flanked by hundreds of armed fighters, they surrounded the Army's fortifications. As the battle ensued a previously unknown armored bulldozer resembling a tank advanced on the military installation.
Equipped with a machine gun and containing a haul of arms and ammunitions inside, the armored bulldozer rumbled towards the southern entrance of the camp. Lance Corporal Kularatne recognized the heavily armored rolling weapon would be able to break through the garrison's defenses. Above all the fall of Elephant Pass to the enemy would be catastrophic and counterproductive at a national level.
Although the LTTE began pounding the Army camp with heavy mortars and weapons to the cries of injured and dying soldiers amidst deafening explosions, all eyes were still centered on the enemy's approaching bulldozer.
The Memorial to Gamini in Elephant Pass
Lance Corporal Kularatne, holding two grenades in his hands, dashed out towards the oncoming bulldozer tank, clambered up the tank's ladder and tossed the two grenades inside it, disregarding the LTTE bullets hitting him. The grenades disabled the bulldozer amidst bursts of fire accompanied by a series of explosions. Lance Corporal Kularatne was flung to the ground and lay motionless.
As the siege of Elephant Pass Army Camp was broken, one of the most ferocious battles in Sri Lanka's modern history ended. The camp had been saved from being overrun by the LTTE in part by Corporal Kularatne's bravery.
In recognition of his act of gallantry Lance Corporal Gamini Kularatne was promoted to the rank of Corporal posthumously and honored with the award of "Parama Weera Vibhushanaya" on 10 October 1991, the highest gallantry award in Sri Lanka for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Army.
Later he came to be known as the Hasalaka Weeraya (Hasalaka Hero)

Most of the village people are honest and very good people. I am very happy to see you helping those people and I wish you good luck. I know you are well aware of other scamers like tuk tuk drivers and tourists followers in sri lanka. It is very thoughtful of you to go in side villages of sri lanka and sharing the experience with the world rather than going and seeing most common places. I wish you good luck.

My friend, that is the message you have to take to the world... except for a very few people, more than 90% of Sri Lankan people are honest.. friendly... hospitable.. humble people. Even though people in remote villages are poor, they are very innocent. I watch a lot of videos on RUclipsrs. They don't talk to people as much as you do. But you talk to people's hearts. That's why 1000/- means 100/- even where you can .. Send beautiful videos to the world.. We will also help to find beautiful places.. things.

Mr. Davud , if you have any donations to offer , those are the most deserving people ! It's not Vaddas , that Dubai woman or that girl attending dance classes who deserve donations. The thumb of rule to judge if someone deserves any donation is their honesty and their living conditions !

      Totally agree
Veddas( indigenous ) clan more corrupt and more cunning than local politicians and scamers.
They ferform everything as a show to make money. Imagine veddas with English speaking tour guides in their own community.
Vedha chief and living methods are just a showpiece to earn some money by hoodwinking FOREIGNER'S and NGO S AROUND THE WORLD TO MAKE BIG MONEY IT'S A TRIVING BUSINESS.
      THESE ARE POSH VEDDHAS.🤣🤣

At the beginning of the video
    There is a wonderful example
of "Irrigation what farmers do when they add water to their fields. The water makes their crops grow. Irrigation takes the place of rainfall in dry regions. It can greatly increase farm production"
The family of potters, without any doubt, immediately began to demonstrate in simple ways beautiful pots for everyday needs. I think that the grandfather was very proud of his ability, perhaps the profession is passed from father to son. What can be said with certainty about the village lifestyle is preserved from generation to generation. And above all, the villagers welcome the strangers with open arms with a constant smile, even if it is not the right time for them. As for the price, it seems to me that money is second-rate - in my opinion, it's important for them to demonstrate knowledge, independence and pride.

    Hi @Davud
As you experienced with wadda people(indigenous people in Dambana) they actually scammed you with some fake shows. they are more commercialized and trying earn from tourism both local and foreign. but these village people have their own income method like farming paddy fields and doing the pottery. that is the difference. Also that woman didn't ask any money to show the pottery making process. she just said the price of each pot.
