Hi guys back in the day Bananas were sold by the number of bananas in a comb They have adopted using western methods by weight . During the economic fall out food prices doubled overnight causing a lot of pain for the locals some times eating just one meal a day. Inflation running at 110% at its peak . I for one did my part by sending money to help the needy. Uva province is the vegetable basket of Sri Lanka. You cannot beet the freshness of produce in Sri Lanka but storage is a problem due to the high cost of power I hope Mandy and Lee are keeping well Love from Florida
Thank you so much for sharing another wonderfully informative comment, Marlon. We appreciate your kindness, and love learning about things from a local's perspective. Wishing you all the best 🙏🤗❤️🇱🇰 ~ Mandy
im a huge fan of bakery items..here in philippines there are bakeries everywhere & crazy cheap like 10 cents usd for a small cake/pastry but they dont look as good as those items in sri..but still very good value & tasty..in the usa bakeries are everywhere as well but the prices my god the prices are soooo high.another thing to do when i visit sri...visit bakeries !! sweet !!!
We know exactly what you mean about the bakeries in the Philippines, and our Philippines series will be coming soon 🤗☺️ The bakeries in Sri Lanka are awesome... I just wish we'd eaten more when we had the chance, especially with those amazing prices! 🇱🇰♥️
Great video...I really enjoyed Nuwara Eliya when I was recently over there. I live in Melbourne Australia, hope you are enjoying Oz. Looking forward to your next Destination!
Hello Carl! Isn't Nuwara Eliya amazing! We weren't originally intending to go there but ended up having an extra 2 weeks in Sri Lanka after I received the diagnosis of breast cancer in Kandy. I completely understand why everyone said we had to visit Nuwara Eliya, and it was definitely one of our favourite places 🇱🇰♥️. We're having a great time in Perth with my sister and her family... it's so warm for May! There's still a few more Sri Lanka videos to come, then our Philippines series, followed by a couple of videos from Portugal... and in real time, we're flying to an exciting new destination in 2 weeks, so stay tuned for that 🤗😁🙏
@carlmiles8948 Hey, I'm only 54... enough of the old 🤣😂 Thanks, Carl...everything will be awesome and I am going to live until I'm 100 🤗🏆 This is the story of my JOURNEY TO WELLNESS after being diagnosed with breast cancer: ruclips.net/p/PLCmNbKU5iMrlOvGhh0vS_FBVmplwc-hvD
Oh, me too, Carolina! As I was editing the video all I could think of was that red velvet cake, and I was kicking myself for not having any 😋🤣 Yet another reason to go back to Sri Lanka someday 🇱🇰❤️ Thank you so much for your lovely comment - I hope you know how much we appreciate you taking the time to write xx🥰🤗 ~ Mandy
I just love your vibe guys!! You both keep smiling and spreading that positive energy among everyone!!! Wishing you all the success in your future adventures🥹❤️ One of the best channels ever!! Keep it up 👍🏼 -Marlon

Hello Lee and Mandy our Chikmagalur golf club is affiliated with the nuwara eliya golf club hopefully my next trip to Sri Lanka will play there besides hope you are keeping well and safe keeping posting God bless you both always 🙏💓
Hello Nisar 👋 It's always lovely to hear from you, and to discover that you're in India! We'll be flying to Kochi in June... can't wait to explore Kerala before heading north to Kolkatta. Wishing you all the best, and thank you again for being such a lovely person 🙏🤗😍
Cool video again. Please go to Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura if you can. You'll love it since you like history, architecture and old/ancient structures.
Hi Mandy Hi Lee, I need to catch up on your Sri Lanka vlogs it looks an awesome country. just finished my radiotherapy Mandy i hope it all works out, safe travels and keep those wonderful vlogs coming, thanks.
Hello Thai Billy Boy! Yes, Sri Lanka is awesome, which is why we've made so many videos showing our 7-weeks there 🇱🇰❤️ I had a new mole removed on Friday and sent for biopsy... all fingers crossed that it's just a blemish, but I wanted to be sure before we fly out next week! Thinking of you, and hoping that you are happy, well, and healthy xx🤗 ~ Mandy
That's so interesting, Amos, thank you! We spent 2 years in Portugal so love seeing the Portuguese influence in Sri Lanka in the surnames and the forts 🇱🇰🤗🙏
Mandy was under the impression that "Ambaal's " was the first time you guys were eating Indian food in SL, when in fact in Kandy you were eating at Balaji Dosai" & "Krishna Dosai" both Indian establishments. Dosa is south Indian food not Sri Lankan, though also associated with Tamils but enjoyed by all. The same could be said of "samosas" unknown in SL until relatively recently , though now widely popular. If you look up the dish "Lamprais", you will find that it's very different to what is generally served in SL establishments, which is nothing more than a chicken Biriyani served on a banana leaf. You have to visit a Dutch Burgher establishment to sample the authentic dish.
Thank you so much for sharing this excellent information, True Belief. It must have been in another clip that I said it was the first time eating North Indian food, as those were the type of curries I'd thought we'd be eating in Sri Lanka... rather than the delicious and healthy SL curry rice we actually received. I knew dosas; idli; and paratha were from South India, but didn't know that samosas were relatively new to Sri Lanka... as they do them so well! We were so excited to finally find lamprais... and will definitely look for it again when we return to Sri Lanka someday. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us 🙏🤗🇱🇰❤️
Bakery food is kind of staple in Sri Lanka, when i was growing up there everyday i would eat an apple cake, eclair or doughnut, morning breakfast either a tea bun something similar to a hot cross bun or a fish bun. Lovely memories. I miss the Green Cabin chocolate cake...don't know they still have that shop in Collpetty...
Wow, they all sound delicious, KnightofCeylon... thank you so much for sharing your memories. I hope someone can answer your question re: the Green Cabin chocolate cake in Collpetty.
Hello Gaynor! It's always so lovely to hear from you. Lee and I are both well, and are currently enjoying spending time with family in Australia, before heading off travelling again in 2 weeks. Sending you a big hug from us both 🤗😍
Yes, Steve... we had such an awesome time in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰❤️ that we ended up with loads of footage to make into videos for you all to enjoy 🤗😁 Don't worry... there's only 2 more Sri Lanka vlogs, I think... and then we'll be on to our Philippines series 😁✈️
Jack fruit and bread fruit generally considered a main meal instead rice by rural people. Actually they are called as fruit is not correct..Jack has three stages..stage one is called polos which cant be separated as small loaf its inside....ie younger stage.it is geneally cook as curry...Second stage is more mature stage, this boiled and eat as a main meal with graeted coconut and fish or meat gravy or lunumiris...The third is rippen or older stage ..In this stage only jack become fruit...very sweet smell..There are two varities of jack..when it became fruit satge only, one can recognise the difference...One has very soft loafs is called wela...one with rough or strong loaf is called waraka..Generally jack is considerd slow diagestive meal..so our elders after having cooked jack meal eat fruis like mango or pineapple for easy diegestion...(One more local naughty expression is wela (more soft loaf) called breast of old women where as waraka (more hard loaf) is called breast of young women..😂 Languages always connect with the prevaling environment of that country...Since your oranges come in that colour you called that colour is orange..But our orange come in green colour...so, from we dont called that colour as orange, insread we call it king coconut colour or thambili colour...
Thank you so much for this fascinating comment! I have screenshot it for the next time we're in Sri Lanka. I never knew about the 3 stages of jackfruit, and thought it was just young jackfruit for cooking, and mature for eating as a delicious fruit. We so appreciate you taking the time to share this excellent information 🙏🤗 I'm not sure if you've seen any of our other Sri Lanka videos? Nice video! But you are not supposed to taste food using the serving spoon like you did with the potato curry. Sri Lankans first serve the curry to their plate, then eat it with hand or cutlery.

Btw, Most common Sri Lankan surnames are Perera, Fernando and De Silva due to Portuguese influence
