Ohhh do I love you right now. Been going nuts trying to smooth out this acoustic mix and the analyzer was the key! Finally saw the frequency that made the fingerpicking sound overly punctuated at times. Nice vocals btw, gonna try your tricks now on a vocal track.
Thanks for your great work! In the next days my Slate digital download is starting hope it will help me like u said in your videos. Keep up the good vibes. Greeting from germany.
Awww buddy thanks I appreciate that! You too! I have really enjoyed watching your stuff over the years. It's really fun being part of the RUclips Home recording community and you are one of my favorites that has started up over the years! And your work is very solid and resonates well with me as a listener for sure. We should do a collaboration one day!
Lewin, do you have a music video of the finished track? Love the song, but you have been teasing us with bits and pieces through this video series (all of which I have watched BTW!). I want to hit 'play' and hear it start-to-finish :) Great work man. EDIT: Nevermind, found on Spotify! Awesome.
Can you individually lower vocal track volume and leave the way I sculpted it. Just a bit lower in volume. I’m just trying to do a short cut and lower volume without one change in the sculptured bit. Does that make sense. Love your videos
Hey Lou, Great series loved it, Im having trouble matching up the auto drummer with the rhythm track? I know its basic, it this a tempo issue? Many Thanks
Because you're doing that in the wrong order. Find a drum part that fits what your play FIRST. Then make a track of it. Then record the guitar part second and all should be well.
Agreed. To go even further and trick the software a bit - Get drummer first like he said then do a muted strumming track with guitar (just mute the strings with left hand, no chords) - Go to drummer and click "follow kick & snare" to that track - Now go record and it should definitely hit at the right times. Just put that muted track at zero volume if you dont want it to be heard.
Hey I'm kinda fearful of the fact that I can't afford to pay for the plug ins, how important would you say they are? Also great series I've been watching them all and learning, it's incredibly intimidating how much goes into this I've been a good musician for awhile but this is a whole nother animal, not that I care as I'll go for as long as it takes but how quickly would you say I could get decent at this(assuming I have everything I need)it's mostly the mixing that I'm afraid of as there seems to be an overwhelming amount of things to learn and recording seems a bit tricky, any advice? I'd really appreciate it sorry for the long comment I'm desperate for help thank you in advance
They're only $15 a month... but if you can't I understand. You can do all of this with the GB plugins, it's just not as easy and the overall tone will be a little less pleasing, but that is completely subjective. But don't worry, you can follow along with these concepts and apply them to any DAW really using any plugins.
IMHO you can grab the IM Multimedia's TRacks plugins and own the instead of paying every month. Also, I will honestly say that it takes at LEAST 2 -3 years to start turning out decent mixes. This is based on being in the music biz for 40 years and seeing lots of different folks start mixing. The ones that improved quicker stuck with the supplied plugins until they grew out of them. Believe me, once you get suckered into mixing time flies because it is so much FUN!
Smurf431 Thank you kindly for taking the time to give me some encouragement it's greatly appreciated you didn't have to but you did so thank you and it took me years to be a musician, what's another few to learn mixing right? Haha, Anyways thanks for taking the time to give some kind words have a nice day

Really liking these tutorials, since not upgrading to the new logic with the Mav upgrade (old logic now useless) back to GB. Good work Lou
Good video on this technique, This is very useful in tightening up the vocals. Thanks for sharing
WELL WELL back to the basics again!
You're an inspiration! Great going!
Just wanted to say thanks for this video!

thanks for the tips, cool music too.
Always excellent. Thank you.
Hey there, I'm working on a song, and unfortunately MIDI is all I have to work with. Do you have any tips on how to mix/master MIDI tracks?

In my ears my vox sound ok but visually they are hitting between 50 to 100 , should i re-record?
Hey Lou, Great series loved it, Im having trouble matching up the auto drummer with the rhythm track? I know its basic, it this a tempo issue? Many Thanks
I’m confused… How is the auto drummer not the rhythm track? Or are you talking about a rhythm guitar track or something?
I’m creating a rhythm track with the guitar, then adding the adding the auto drummer. Doesn’t seem to match/sound right.
Thanks

Super thanks for the advice!

Hai, just want to ask how to setup the gain staging when we record using virtual instrument?
Hey Lewin, I sent you an email a couple weeks ago regarding a project I’m doing and wanted to have you mix / master for me. Did you get that?
Please give me your powers
