I can't believe I didn't figure that out! Thanks a million. I've I wanted to do a fast double bass for some real heavy stuff but the auto drummer doesn't quite give me what I want. This is a simple work around.
A refreshingly friendly, human approach Sam. Well done. Feedback (for me, probably fine for most others though?) a little bit lightning fast going through the procedures. Thank You SO much for this. I will be checking your 'School for GB' in future.
This isn't an attempt to hijack your post but here's a great way to insert your starting Drummer tracks. Use the Arrangement feature to section off your song (Intro, verse, bridge, chorus, etc.) Then create a new drummer track and it fills in a pattern for each Arrangement section. Now you can edit each Drummer pattern as needed to fit your song!
Great tutorial I'm just using GB for iPad,which is a great tool for my music making, but I'm probably upgrading to a Mac soon, seems like a big step up in content. Even though I suspect that I'll use the iPad for most of my audio (guitar/bass) then import (great feature) to the Mac for drums/Vocals/fine tuning and mix. Thanks a bunch mate
Hey Sam Beckman, This tutorial is great, however I am very curious as to how you got a hold of the cymbal roll track? Also how were you able to get the "Studio Direct Box Warm" and the "Shimmering Electric" tracks? Also how did you get the individual shaker track? I know that's a lot of questions but I'd greatly appreciate the help!
Did you download different sounds and presets? The "Shimmering Electric" and "Shaker" etc weren't available for me. If so, where did you get them? They sound super awesome
I cannot find Auto drummer in Garageband iOS, no list of Liverpool, Manchester, Heavy, etc. Does Auto Drummer only exist in the Mac version of the program or am I just missing out on how navigate to it in the iOS version? Please advise.
That doesn't work. Beat 1 is always beat 1. If you drag the track forward to the "and of 4" the crash and kick move to 1 of the next measure. The way to do it is to create a MIDI track, paste your drummer section into the MIDI track which converts it to MIDI notes then slide the kick and cymbal to the jumped beat.
Really helpful. I have a question. How do you create the cymbal roll at the beginning of the song? Is it in garageband or is it a seperate plugin? Thanks in advance.
The first few seconds I had the same question :-), because I know that it is not possible to let the automatic drummers do this. It is surly from a sample/sound library. The number of the soundfile indicates this. Thanks for the video! I was surprised that I didn't had the idea to create a second midi-drumline in my project. Now I feel stupid, but lucky.
Great tutorial! You added the autodrummer later in the song. Does that mean that you recorded the other instruments first with a clicktrack or metronome?
Great tutorial ! Thanks for making sense of GB ! However PLEASE can you point me to how to get an automatic drum accompaniment to my practice electric guitar soloing ? I believe the GB drummer can work out a groove automatically as you are strumming? - Cheers!
+shakespearo999 Thanks heaps for the comment mate! Appreciate it :) I've never heard of a live accompaniment drummer in GB - but if you'd be happy with it, why don't you record your guitar to the click track without drums once - and then match the drums to that playing. Then play your guitar again but this time the drums will lead the way! Not sure if that's at all what you're looking for though...
yo sam nice video and music . but is this not actually logic pro x you are using in the video ? .or does garage band freely offer this cool virtual session drummer feature where you can select what parts of the kit he automatically uses ?
Sam Beckman ahh yes you are correct brilliant !! . and can you tell me are all 28 drummers available in the free download of garage band ? . or does the free download of garage band just come with one drummer and you have to purchase the rest ?
I've recorded my guitar and bass on my project and whenever I try to add the drummer it doesn't sync with the other tracks at all. Does the tempo that the project is set to make a difference? I've clicked the follow bottom but it still doesn't help. I don't know if I'm missing anything and if theres anything I can do to get the drums to match the beat of the song. Thanks.
Sam Beckman Is there and easy way to find the tempo of the song your trying to record? I play guitar so I don't read sheet music or anything and most of the music I'm recording are songs I've written.
johnradiv you can get an app where you can tap along with the beat and it tells you the tempo at which you are tapping. What i do is after recording my guitar and bass tracks etc, i play them back and then tap along with it. Then i enter the resulting tempo into the drum track, it usually syncs up quite well with a few minor adjustments. there are probably many apps for this but the one I've been using is Simple Metronome on Android.
Exactly the video I was look for! Thanks bro
Cheers Sam - that has helped me! Drums are really important to me so a big thank you from me. 👍🏻
I used to record all the drums in bits an manually position the notes... I'm so glad i found this.

That was awesome (and I appreciate the combination of relevance, brevity and real-world application)! I'm excited to be a new subscriber. Thank you!

Can anyone tell me is there a way to adjust all the keyboard velocity notes in the Editor without having to do them separately which takes forever ?
Very helpful!
Very very useful!!
Can't wait to give this a try!
excellent tutorial, thanks
Great ideas. Thanks for Sharing
Thanks for a superb tutorial!
Very useful tutorial -- clearly explained. Thanks!

Thanks for your video, I am having a hard time doing a valse beat. A 3/4 beat with automatic drummer sounds awful, any clues? Thank you again 😍
Did you download different sounds and presets? The "Shimmering Electric" and "Shaker" etc weren't available for me. If so, where did you get them? They sound super awesome
Thank you! 😊
great stuff mate..
Problem solved. Thanks for posting this. You make it easy! :)
Is there any way to get a ska/reggae like afterbeat? The drummers all seem to revert to a beat on "1"
How did the “drummer” play they exact tempo needed automatically?
I use a tap metronome to find the tempo and then I put it in the upper middle bar where it says bpm
Hope this help hahah

You actually said whilst instead of while. Talk about proper english. Earned my sub just for that. Lol. The tutorial was awesome too!!! 👍👍👍
what's wrong with whilst?
And didn't pronounce the silent 't' in 'often'. Impressive lol.
@@agnesfonmarten Nothing... Sevens was thanking him for using it instead of while, lol.
@Mr. Nerve Damage I thought the comment was sarcastic
Great stuff, thanks!
Thanks Sam, very useful info !
+Roy de'Alwis Thanks Roy :)
Nice one- very helpful.
How do I make drummer jump a beat. Come in on 4and instead of 1?
Drag the track so the track itself starts on the 4. I had to do this on one of my projects because I wanted it to start with a fill on the 4.

Wait.... the drums will automatically fill in? I thought I'd have to write them in myself..
Great tutorial ! Thanks for making sense of GB !

Do you have to pay for garage band on iPhone or iPad how do it work. Can you use a irig condenser mic to them and start recording ?
yo sam nice video and music . but is this not actually logic pro x you are using in the video ? .or does garage band freely offer this cool virtual session drummer feature where you can select what parts of the kit he automatically uses ?
This is most definitely a feature in the latest versions of Garageband, as you can see in this video 😊
Sam Beckman ahh yes you are correct brilliant !! . and can you tell me are all 28 drummers available in the free download of garage band ? . or does the free download of garage band just come with one drummer and you have to purchase the rest ?
Excellent!

Garry Buchan Alright cool thanks for the suggestion I'll give that a try
thank you !!
Hey, Does anyone know why these drums are unavailable on the iPad version of garageband? The drums are totally different......
Not all, but many!
Billy Kubina Jr This is a pretty old post, but recently they added "drummers" to the mobile version of Garageband, which is what I was looking for.
can you like make your own track so I can like really make songs?
garageband always lets me add two drummers. maybe it's a different version, but I'm pretty sure I'm still on 10.
Is awesome realisticos♥️♥️♥️♥️💯👍
for iPhone 5
Made me laugh when you said 7db is the appropriate level
Yo just get Logic
