Anyone that has iPhone or iPad, the logic remote app, which works with GarageBand has a mixer that shows the numbers. Shows the peak of every track in real numbers. A great free app.
But this is a fantastic way of doing it without seeing numbers.
thanks, Archipelington - you would need iOS 13.4 to install.
But do you need to be running a Mac for it to connect with GB?

Nice trick, using the Gain plugin that way. Thanks, Lewin!
Great video! I’ve learned so much through your channel!
Great tip. Thanks Lewin.
Amazing video yet again! You are the reason my mixes are getting better and better! Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely have to use this for my new album!
Brilliant information, as usual, Thank you, Lewin.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Wow, it’s like you read my mind! I was just thinking of an ironclad way to ensure enough headroom...and boom! I see this video posted and there is the answer! Thanks so much Lewin!! I’ve learned so much from you over the years. 👍🏻
That's awesome!! So glad I could help!
Super helpful, Thank you!
This is what you do so well. You have a gift for teaching. Glad you are doing well.
Great tip 👍
Lewin!! This is brilliant. You just helped me get my mixes to behave. I've been listening to you for years. Bought the Aventone cv12 per your review, use it in a manner that you suggested with excellent results. I appreciate your take on the whole recording experience. Thank you for starting and staying with your channel all these years. I've learned MUCH from you. You RAWK!
Thank you so much, it will be definitely in my preferences , now I am not so afraid to do some saddle control in master track before starting mixing Wish you a 100.000 more subscriber. Congrats.
cool video....nice way to work....thanks for the tips Lewin.
Clever how that works. Nice helpful tip.
Another great video. Big fan. Many thanks.
Wow, thank you very mucho! God Bless!
Great video! Thank you this really helps
My biggest challenges are eq and db levels. Perception can be Tricky. Thanks for the tip!
Great tip Lewin - the MV2 meter would be helpful and I thought you have mentioned that.
Agreed. For Garageband, mvMeter is a must have in my opinion. It's a simple tool that can save a lot of time.
Loved the video, will definitely put this trick to use. Have a newbie question, I have a project already mixed w/o using this tip, could I simply open the master track, add gain plug in and set to -6db, will this do the same thing?
That’s a great tip Lewin!! Easy for us mortals
Another great lesson. Question. If you have a compressor or limiter on the master bus (master track) can't that be used the same way you're using the gain utility? Or is your suggestion to mix with the gain utility *then*, after you've mixed it, and turned the utility off, and *only* then do you add "mastering" compression and limiting?
Hope my question makes sense. In a nutshell I'm asking why not master while you go if you're gonna' master yourself. Know what I mean?
thanks Lewin! Very well done - could I ask what type of announcing mic. are you using?
Thanks Marty! And... I'm using a Shure SM7b going into a Heritage audio HA-73EQ.
The volume controls on the Master Track and Master Output should be at 0.0 db? And we work around that?
Help! My GarageBand was like a wooden piano and the nit changed and I hate it how do I fix this?
Hello Whatsapp man long time no see
in my Cubase, there is a gain on the mix bus but no option to turn it off only to reduce it to 0 or to negative what should I do ??
where were you all this time stop disappear like that buddy your chanal is very important & useful
thanks, anyway
simon bc
-6db peak? -6db RMS? -6db LUFs?
Can this be done on cell phone anyone?
Wouldn't turning off the master bus only drop it to 0 dB? (+6 -6 = 0) Lewin, could you please explain what I'm missing here?
Good question! Think of like this, when you're mixing with the plugin turned on and making sure that nothing is going above "peaking" That "peaking" number IS actually zero db. So you mix with to a ceiling of "zero", turn off the plugin and BOOM it drops to -6db. Make sense?
@@GaragebandandBeyond Yes. Makes sense now. Thanks!
Nice. But I thought the mix target was -6dB, not +6dB. Did I hear wrong?
It is.... did you watch the entire video before you left this comment?LOL
I might have bailed before the last couple minutes! :/
Well .... then I’d suggest you watch the rest!! 😁
@@GaragebandandBeyond doh!! that was an important minute! Thanks for another great video.
