Thank you for all your content this question is a little off topic. I'm looking in your tutorials on how to erase a single instrument in a midi track on GarageBand. I'm using Mac and when I go to erase an instrument it erases the whole line not just one individual instrument what am I doing wrong?
It’s been a while since I’ve done some mixing so it’s nice to get a simply laid out refresher that’s complete and efficient. Saves the mind. Appreciate it Colin !
No loud annoying intro, no loud screaming, no begging for likes, no clickbait. No distracting background music. That's why I subscribed. Didn't even need to beg.
Spend the money and gear and start twisting knobs , advertise your work for Free and learn as you go. A year at Berklee could get you an API 1608 and all the mics and cables you need. Spend the second year on a spot. 3rd on acoustic treatment and routing. 4th to live off of while you build your name.
When you started talking Compression, I thought I better leave this video and refresh my knowledge on it before continuing. Then you went on to give a simple, understandable briefing of how it works. Legend! Thanks for this, can’t wait to watch more of your tutorials.
By far the best mixing guide I have found. Comprehensive but easy to understand. I hadn't thought of doing the static mix and then a touch of mastering before going into effects. This has been immensely helpful.
I can’t believe how clearly you explain this stuff. It’s a relief because every other video on mixing (especially on compression specifically) I have struggled to follow and just kept assuming it was me being a crappy learner. But I actually understood this?! So thank you!
you can tell after years of providing grade A tips and tutorials, this stuff has become second nature to Collin...super stoked to see him branching out to Logic Pro and can't wait to pick up more useful info !
I havent done any mix and mastering in a fat minute, this gave me a refresher! I was so confused because I had no idea why I was messing up so much but after this I had my brains back!
About EQ. I have noticed the Mastering Assistant in most songs want to lower the area around 300-700, sometimes down to 100 and up too 800. Instead of using that EQ I've been thinking it's better to first check EQ on all tracks and lower that area in those tracks that doesn't suffer too much from it. And then using the Mastering Assistant again and let it take care of the rest.
They say if you can explain simply then you know it best - taking all my sounds down to zero to start the mix made me fall in love with a song of mine that I was ready to delete yesterday. Bless you for sharing knowledge. Best, Powys
Oh man I am absolutely glad I came across this video… I was going crazy w trial and error and wondering why my mix never sounded loud enough now I know it’s due to mastering. Amazing video. Thanks for breaking everything down.
You’ve demystified compression. I have read books, watched videos. It’s always eluded me how to effectively use this tool. What you explained in this video finally hit it home for me!
Great tutorial I have been struggling with the mixing and mastering processing. I never feel I have achieved a professional level, even though every track is perfectly recorded. You really explain well what needs to be done. I highly recommend The Band Guide.
This video was SUPER helpful. I've been really dragging my feet and going back and forth about whether or not to learn mixing and mastering for myself rather than continuing to delegate it. This video and this channel makes all these things seem so accessible and, with intentional practice, fairly simple to attain! Thanks so much! Will definitely be tuning in for more content in the future!
Colin, I just want to say thanks - I've just mixed a new song sticking 100% to your 6 step guide, and it is aboslutely miles better than any mix I've done before. I also now understand the hows and whys of mixing infinitely better than before. This is world class teaching. Chapeau!
You’re a godsend man. I felt like I’d had a prayer answered listening to your advice. You’re actually an expert and professional to boot. I’m off to fix my mixes with your tips ! Subscribed brother
Thank you for this beautiful video on mixing , it's the most clear, comprehensive theoretical touch base on logic pro and I can't wait to check out your upcoming videos You're a genius and a very good teacher
This is seriously the best video I've watched in 2024. I'm fully confident I don't need a producer to make my track go from ass to class. Thanks so much for these videos. I wish this existed more than 2 months ago. You're a hero.
Everything time he says “the biggest mistake I see …” it’s something I’m guilty of. I can’t wait to get back on the studio and use these simple, well described steps on my tunes. Not to mention, diving into the more detailed videos here. Much appreciated my friend.
honestly this is really, really helpful - explained in a very easy to understand way how to tackle the quite overwhelming process as a relatively inexperienced user - I’ll be watching more videos!!!!!
Im finishing up an album right now and this was a really helpful and digestible video! sometimes I feel stuck with my mixes, like Ive done all that I know how to do but its still not sounding right. this video made me feel like I can go into my next mixing session with more critical thinking and intent behind my decisions. thanks!
Hi Colin. Good to be reminded in a summary way of these key milestones. Just starting a new project today so that will fit in nicely with the next few weeks of your series
thank you so much!! i’ve been feeling a bit disheartened since “finishing” some projects and being unhappy with how they sound. very keen to try all this out and to streamline things in the future when i’m in the early stages 🤗🤗
Thank you so much for creating this! This was incredibly helpful. I was able to use your tips to finish an EDM track in Logic and have it sound sooo much better than my previous efforts. Amazed how much of a difference proper EQ and compression makes! 🔊
Easily the best video with an approach to mixing on RUclips. So thankful for this - I’ll be watching every other video you have and downloading your guide for sure!!!!
thanks dude. I been mixing for years but never got consistent. Thinking about giving up TBH. But this back to basic guide has given me hope. Will be following your steps from now on
I just want to tell you how much I absolutely love and appreciate these videos! You’re doing gods work brother 😂 I been trying to use and understand GarageBand for years and have been totally lost with just about everything to make a well done song. I just watched most of your drum videos when using midi to make drums sound studio real. It has blown my mind that I’ve created what I have so far. I feel a new feeling of excitement that I’ll actually finish a publishable song. Thank you for what you’ve done!
Another great video! Big fan here. I like how concise you are with your videos. I think you have a great way of removing all of the confusion about this vastly complicated subject. Focusing on the fundamentals. This whole step by step concept of yours, has completely changed the way that I approach my songs. I got caught up in thinking that the reason why my songs didn’t have that professional sound was because I didn’t know all of the mastering tricks and ear candy that the pros have. I needed to invest more money in my Studio Gear. I thought I needed to learn more advanced techniques. Turns out I needed to go all the way back to the beginning. Now my mixes have a clarity I could’ve never achieved before. I used to throw a bunch of reverb and delay on everything long before the mixing process because it did sound better in that stage of the creation. But all this did was hinder my abilities to mix because there were too many resonating frequencies happening and made it impossible to hone in on the real problems. Thank you so much for all of these videos that you make. You are helping so many people. Thank you!
So well done , explained precisely yet simply Can’t wait to watch The video you recommended where you actually go through the steps of doing the mix I have worked in GarageBand in the past I just got logic Pro so this will be quite exciting to work with the information that you gave me. Thank you so much.
I can’t thank you enough, your video is straight to the point, loud and clear. Definitely subscribing right away, and making the time to take a deep dive in all your content. Thank you so much again 🙏🏻
Awesome job making complex things sound real simple! I was able to follow right along and grasp the important concepts of mixing. This is going to help a lot.
Hi Collin. I have been watching your Garageband tutorials in the past and that really helped us to make a great sounding album. So glad you are now making a series on Logic since I also made the upgrade. Thank you so much! Greetings from LunAcoustic.
Thank you so much for all efforts! There are so many confusing tutorials on the web, but you always explain everything in a very apprehendable way. So even a struggling amateur like me can improve a little bit. Cheers!
thanks a bunch!! this video was very helpful. I always get a bit anxious when starting a new mix and this video gave me a good perspective on how to manage it. I know that there's no such this as the "correct way of mixing" but these were great advices. thank you very much ;D
This video is very helpful and applicable. Thank you. Blessings, contentment, joy, love, peace, rest and strength to you and yours! Liked, subscribed, and notified.
This was so helpful! You explained everything in a way that I could understand it clearly. Thank you! Can't wait for the rest of the videos in this series! Thank you man!
Great Video! Extremely helpful because I knew all of the components of the mix but did not have a strategy to apply them. I do have a suggestion. I would love to understand how to mix such that the mid and side are correct. Similar to mixing in general, I understand the definitions but I don't have a strategy to apply them to mixing. Thanks. Ron
The absolute best video series I've seen on mixing in Logic Pro to date. Forever subscribed! Forgive me for the most likely absurd question I'm about to ask as I am not a pro. Question. I use Melodyne to fix my "beautiful" voice before anything. Should I also go ahead and use a noise gate on all my vocal tracks beforehand too? FYI, my setup is in the public living room in our house(to my wife's dismay) and there is no sound treatment.)
These videos are really, really well done, explained simply and easy to understand. Thank you. I've signed up and downloaded the PDF, thanks for that! I have a question, if you are mixing a couple of songs at the same time, would you do them separately, so go through steps 1-6 for one and then the other, or would you do step 1 across both songs before moving to step 2 across both etc. ?
Nice tips! I always start to put reverbs and other stuff to get the feeling right first, but end up having to change everything. This is what I need to do most of the time. Pz
Hello first time in your channel. I think the way you explained everything make it sounds less difficult than I thought Thks for sharin ….. I definitely subscribe in ur channel nd keep looking forward to learn more from you. 🙏🏻
