We spend some time on our little sailboat Articos and prepare her for our coming sail. Then we laminate the chain plates reinforcements.
We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on RUclips. While we are still sailing, our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 50 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We post a new episode every Friday so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell to be the first to know when there is a new episode!

Love,
Malin, Johan & Vera
Home grown food and home made boat. Can't ask for anything better!
As I get older and older I fing it harder to get moving to get through my chores. Watching Johann' boundless energy puts me in the right frame of mind to get up and at it.
This sailboat is really taking shape! we're all with you.....
I've found, in my life , the hours and days spent with family are SO important.
You will not regret one of those minutes.
I also enjoy the non boat video. The garden, animals, birds, insects, flowers, etc.! So thanks for that.
There is no part of Ran III that you will not be infinitely familiar with!
Even if it is more work, I'm so happy to see you enjoying Articos. Your garden is so lush and green. It's nice reeping the rewards of your harvest. Especially with Vera's valuable assistance. Thanks for sharing. 🥔🫛
This boat is gonna be strong.
You both have earned my respect, god bless you both
Vera is very confident and an excellent climber it’s nice to see and she is growing both in size and capability good to see she likes books! I have experience both raising children and with boats , both require significant commitment and investment of yourselves. You should be proud of your accomplishments on all fronts.
Your stamina & attedance to small details continues to amaze and inspire me. A fascinating video!
I am very impressed by your "hard work" How you continuously solve emerging situations. Have built a few boats myself and know the work you put in.
Very interesting to follow your work
Good luck!
Thank you RAN for 401...
This boat will last for generations for sure ! Excellent workmanship and engineering, no shortcuts (at least until now) visible. For the carbon fiber enthusiasts : yes, carbonfiber is insanely strong, but not as flexible as fiberglass, so when combined with the more flexible hull construction with fiberglass, it is not an advantage, but rather a disadvantage, as the materials don’t work “together” well. Choosing unidirectional fiberglass is the right decision in my opinion. Well done !
Vera is absolutely beautiful, with such a light heart and interested in learning new things. I can't wait to see her on RAN III, she'll be very capable by then! Great job on the 'glass Johan!
Everyone watching your video is supporting your production.
I know someone said it last week, but you really should consider saturating the wood before you lay the glass. Especially with how thick your strips are, they will suck a massive amount of epoxy out of whatever you lay on it. It would suck to see delaminating after you launch, especially with how much work you’re putting in to the boat.
Great video as always!
@@wombatillo I agree. The starboard side laminations were basically white when everything dried. I’ve done half a dozen large lamination jobs in my life and have never had success with glass looking like that.
Your garden looks magnificent and so HEALTHY. ENJOY!
Pipi Langstrum is a born actress ..
Lots of work done. Have a good weekend.
We had a problem with slugs and Googled a solution. The solution that we chose was the beer in a bottle solution. It is organic and it works. Bury glass jars in the ground almost to the rim. fill the jar half with beer. Any kind of beer will work. Then just stand back and wait. The first night, we almost filled the jars with slugs. The biggest problem is digging the jars up and disposing of the slugs. Over a period of time you will see less slugs. It will take several reproductive cycles to completely rid your garden. Sounds simple, but it really works. Good luck.
The indomitable Vera continues to amaze! 😂. In just a few years she has matured so quickly! I am sure that one day she will be famous for her remarkable achievements!
RAN is going to be a fabulous boat and home for you all! Plus ➕ you are living in Europe, the centre of civilization which is good for you and esp. for Vera growing up.
NICE GARDEN!!!!!!
I think it will be invaluable in the future when cruising that you will literally know every splinter in the whole boat.
Must be satisfying to build something like this with your own hands👍
So strange but wonderful to see you on a boat again. Thanks for sharing
13:30 your broken window gets me every week, lol. I always think there is a hair on my screen.
Vera is the cutest little monkey. Growing so fast
Strong is the dream in them! Interesting how the naval architect designed the reinforcement for the chain plates.
Lovely you got to spend time on Articus!
According to the articles of the "belt and suspenders" philosophy, it would be a great time (now) to add a triangle patch over the topmost ends of these chainplate reinforcements. That would not only unify the whole thing independently of other elements, but it would also distribute any load better. If it were me, i'd make a triangle patch with two layers, rounded corners, upside down (base matching the upper lip of the hull), all the way down to the 14th strip of wood (or just about where these strips you've added conjoin). Jm2c, based on the fact that whenever you can add strength through a simple, basic process, that won't affect the rest of the structure, you should. So far, i haven't been bit in the derriere by this approach, in fact, quite the opposite.
That ramble said, tremendous project. I think i'll sneeze and look again and you'll be adding the deck next. :)) You're probably one of the fasted two tag teams of boat builders i've seen, nay, scratch that, you are, given the size of this boat. Nice work!
If you want the grass to come quickly, cover the area with thin plastic foil. The humidity from the ground and the light will quickly make the seeds spring in a week.
Perfect timing... exactly at the beginning of my coffee break at work. I thank you for lightening my load and enlightening my mind. Salutations from Victoria BC. Love your channel!
Also from VI, memories of Meet & Greet at Spinakers!😊
Cool, another episode!
¡Gracias!
TIP!
Use full strength white vinegar to clean your boat. Spray rinse with tap water and dry as required!
Keep up the good work!
JIM ❤
Crazy commitment...love your stuff.
I think your right about getting the bulk done, the bow will be fiddly and slow. By the way temp stairs looked more like for ever steps.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every video.
Thanks so much for sharing😊
As I looked at the hull form, I am just totally in awe that two people were able to make such a large, technically complicated and beautiful form. WOW !!!!
👍😊👍🇺🇸
Love that Volvo MD2, I had one my Glander 33 and it was a very good engine. That hull is definitely going to be strong and solid, great work.
Your boat is going to be so strong. I am always impressed with your skills. Been following since before Vera was born. Aloha from Hawaii!
I notice the topping on Veras pizza at 2:30 and as a Swede I approve 😂
Relaxing after a hard day at work to see you proceeding step by step ... thanks a lot
Vera is once again stealing the show!! Cheers from Canada
How do to you make such a focused and constructive child at such a young age? She washes potatoes, attempts to pull the boat with her bike, helps you whenever she can... other kids just demand phones and tablets otherwise they fall into tantrums. Vera just makes thing happen. Incredible!
My Apologies I have been watching this boat coming together for over a year and realised I wasn't subscribed!!! I am now 168k +1! 😀
Thanks for watching! 👍😊
This boat is going to be relay strong especially in the keel area wow, great work!
You have a wealth of knowledge, you should consider an apprenticeship program for young ship builders!
Love watching the build, it's great fun to see the boat evolve each week. Thanks for your videos, they are great.
What likable people you all are! From Colorado
A thought on short sleeves. When you discard your coveralls cut the sleeves off and tape them to the new set in such away as to give the desired length.
Very nice job.
So it begins again, the laborious task of fiberglassing, I feel for you. It is important to have that family time. Wooooo Hoooo on harvesting the home grown veggies, awesome. Love the vlog :)
great video the photography , the music is all done so well . The Ran III project is coming along nicely Johan's work looks top notch .
It was nice to see the family getting your little boat ready for some fun sailing! I'm no expert on boat building but it seems like the interior jobs will go quicker evolving into the Really Fun stuff➡️ woodworking finishes!....
Likely the worst is over and there's downhill starting now!....Beautifully handcrafted building, you 2!
I always Love seeing Vera, she's a Lovely girl and a Big Helper!! Very Happy for your steady progress towards the lifestyle you Love!!❤❤❤👍
Such beautiful potatoes!
That was a cool morning video. 😊
Well done, Johan ... very labor-intensive work!
Nice to see another of those old Volvo Penta md2 (?) s once in a while.
Mine likes mineral oil once a year and is very economic.
I love that your kitchen garden is yielding some edibles. Yum!
fantastic strengthening of the chain plate areas... great work!
I really appreciate your production. Thank you so much for sharing :)
Oh, you guys, just a most lovely family episode 🎉🎉🎉 Vera is just the cutest, growing young girl. She is obviously well taken care of. Bravo to you both as parents.‼️👏🏻 The chainplate laminate looks terrific 🙌🏻 Looking forward to the remaining fiberglassing effort. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
😀😀👍👍❤ A strong boat will be a big bonus in the future! Take your time and make it right the first time and you will have a beautiful sailing "home" indeed! Thank you for your uploaded videos. Bye for now from Seattle, WA. (Northwest USA)
Great work looks amazing
Excellent work as always.
As Always THANKS FOR SHARING
Love you guys, from a South African supporter...
Thankyou 👍 coming along nicely
Good one
When you get to those weights I call it laying carpet! With you there in spirit.
great video
Sugar Snaps!!! Too funny ;-)
Love this!!!
When we are in power everyone will live this idyllic life. A quote from the late great Ned Daniel
Who is Ned Daniel?
The hull space is massive you'll have loads of room
That was hard working but it’s loos very strong👍👍
lol. 1:56 Vera getting on/off the boat herself. I think "Great! Now she can go get the pizza when it arrives." 2:25 You are chowing down on pizza.
hiya, i have watched for years, great videos,
an observation, you dont welcome or farewell the audiance in your native language.
ps i would like to become familer with hi, bye, yes, no, more, less. two beers
Hi, love you guys. I don't want to give you another day's work that doesn't need to be done, but, the single course brick wall at the end of the shed appears not to be structurally ok. If it is actually single brick sitting on single brick without any steel rods tying it top and bottom I would do a quick reinforce. You could sleeve it vertically with 100 x 75 ml timber each side of wall, threaded 12ml rod tying the timbers together at 1m vertical spacings. I'm from Christchurch New Zealand, (earthquakes), and thousands of these brick walls buckled and bulged horizontally and vertically when in poor condition. The walls that were still standing were temporarily reinforced this way.
…and I feel like an accomplished craftsman after putting together an IKEA project! :)
bra jobbat 💯
Vera is getting to be soooo cute and grown-up. Malin, you do such a good job editing the videos. Johan is so easy going and slow paced that it works great to do the fast forwarding through measuring the epoxy beakers. Just perfect. Thanks so much for another great video with a nice mix of your life. Ron
That looks great. A suggestion I have is to set up a laminating table inside the hull. You certainly have plenty of space.
Johan, I will grow old with you :)
Nathanael Herreshoff considered epoxy "congealed snot", But is has taken over wooden boat building.
Maybe a silly question, but wouldn’t it save some time to set up the lamination station (plastic) INSIDE the hull?
I would also roll up the impregnated cloth, lay down the new fiber glass, pour the resin and then go lay the saturated cloth. Let it soak as you're laying up the fiber glass....
Vera is adorable!
The new boat is going to be massive compared to the old one.
Sockerärtor 😂 Hon e ju förbaskat skojig!
Food for thoughts. What about setting up a “glass wetting table” inside the boat. The table could be suspended from the overhead with some way of easily be able to move “table” aft as glassing progressing from the bow towards the stern
After I hurt my knee, my friend encouraged me to get a pair of high quality volleyball knee pads. They are comfortable and provide plenty of protection. You can even wear them under your pants if you want. Regular knee pads are uncomfortable and overkill for most projects.
❤❤❤
Skall det sitta stag där glasfiberremsorna möts vid fäcksnivån?
Exited for you guys to sail this summer! Is it possible to put the soaking table in the boat?
I still laugh when I think about that chunk of stuff the engine spat out last year
PIZZA on Articos!
Vera will be climbing the mast before you know it.
Looks like you might have some Rhubarb in the garden. Don't see it much now and I don't know why. It's delicious.
It’s a favorite of ours! 😊
What is good in life Conan? crushing your enemies marching them before you and seeing the lamination of the kiel pocket
