what a useful video ever seen on youtube, I really thank You for this video, I watched the video and the camera in my hand step by step I learned much and more with it. Can't say more. THANK YOU

A big thanks. I watched your vid a few weeks ago when I was demo an x100F and now watched again to set up my XE-3. Love to learn more from a master like you. Well done.

People are still leaving comments after two years which is an indication how useful this video is. For me, it may be the one video I have seen that convinces me to upgrade from X100s to x100F. I see lots of improvements in the controls and functions. None of the gear reviews I have seen was this useful. I use the x100s for travel and small events. I also do several large events during the year for non profits as a volunteer (similar to wedding receptions but with less dancing and more stage performers) but have not found the x100s to be very effective.

Many, many thanks for this video. I love the way you go through things as they occur on the camera's menu. I will try out your settings and see which ones I like and which ones I will adapt. What a clear, logical explanation of how your choices alter the finished image. I will watch, watch and re-watch this video as there is so much to take in and absorb. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this information! I just ordered my X-100F and it is my first sophisticated digital camera. I started shooting B&W film in my teens and also had a darkroom. I had a Pentax H3V SLR with no light meter. I learned to judge the correct exposure myself and learned a lot. I miss those days.

Hi Kevin. I am a street enthusiast and I follow your RUclips and F16 channels because there is a lot of interesting news. I recently upgraded from my x100t to the x100f and I thank you for the exhaustive explanations, but unfortunately in this coronavirus period we are forced to stay indoors and cannot fully exploit my new camera. Greetings from Lecce, Southern Italy.

Every time I pick up my X100F somehow I inadvertently change a setting or two, time goes by and the moment is lost, along with enthusiasm. So watching this video has made my camera more usable, and hopefully saved it from being chopped in for something less good. Thank you.

I bet you love it by now. I bought one when they debuted, and a mint-condition used one a couple of months ago since Fuji doesn’t seem like they’ll ever improve on that particular camera, and I never want to not own one. Today I received a used X100F in the mail, which I’ve wanted for a long time. But I doubt I’ll ever leave the house without that X70 in my bag. Enjoy it. It’s a magical little camera.

I, too, would love a video related to BBF. I focus & recompose, but I find that in dark situations where people are moving (dancing or nightlife type stuff) it doesn't work well and the camera (x100t) is too slow to focus. Not sure if focus lock would help in that scenario esp if subject is moving distance from me. Thanks

I realized though that when I set the ISO to (iso A1 12800 with min shutter speed 1/125) the camera sometimes overwrites the minimum shutter speed with a lower speed than the 1/125. Do you experience that problem and if yes do you know how solve it? Thank you.

Hello Kevin. I love your videos. I’m a DSLR shooter and just recently started thinking about street photography, I think I would like to buy an X100F. And that brings me to the question(it might be a little silly, but it doesn’t hurt to ask): which color is more suitable for candid street photography (as in black or silver) in your personal opinion?, or maybe it doesn’t matter at all?!
    Thank you!

    • @kevin_mullins
      @kevin_mullins  6 лет назад

Hi, Peter. It's not a silly question. I will always go for black cameras if I can get hold of them. I have a silver X-E3 but that's because it was the only colour in stock when I purchased it.

And just for another point of view: I chose the silver and brown model precisely because I think it looks less "professional" and maybe a little less objectionable. On the other hand, I guess the all-black is less noticeable. BTW, just got this camera and while I have decades of photography experience, this has been the most informative video I've ever seen for the X100F. Thanks!

Hi Kevin, thanks for this. I wonder what I am doing wrong. I rented a x100f from Calumet over the weekend, but all OOC jpegs came out with very waxy skintones even for ISOs 200 and 400. I used pro neg hi/classic chrome with Noise Reduction - 4, highlight - 2, shadows - 2 (or + 2 sometimes), sharpness + 2 I think. The only couple of raw files I saved looked ok in LR. I don't have any Fuji's at the moment, so not used to processing x-trans files, though I was hoping to get god ooc jpegs. PS- I met you during touch and try and Calumet, Euston.

Kevin....thanks for this very useful video, a question about the auto iso function, because if imposed 1/60 - 6400 ISO even the low ISO shots (Es. 1/60 and ISO 1000) are taken mainly to 1/60 or near them values and maybe not to 1/250 with higher ISO ? (I hope I explained myself)

Hi Kevin! Thank you very much for a very useful video. I would like to ask for your advice on smth. I use fujifilm x100f and at some point, the option "film simulation" became unavailable as well as some other options in the menu. They just became blurry and I cant activate them ever since. Any idea what that could be? Thank you in advance!

Superb video, are these settings for the most part applicable to the XT-20?

Hi Kevin, Thank you for this very educational video. I do not have a 100F but I tried as much as possible to set my X-Pro 2 with those settings because I wanted to try to have B&W pictures as neat as yours and because, most of all I should say, I'd like to be able to take pictures on events such as weddings in a more secure and quicker dispositions and I think the X-pro 2 can allow me that . So I thank you for helping me dwell into those menu.
Anyway, I do have interest in BBF but I'm afraid there's something I'm missing here:
I understand I won't able to assign a specific function to be activated when the Rear Command Dial is pressed until the next X-Pro 2 firmare arrives ( due on late May) so I'm trying to find another function button to be assigned to the BBF but I'm struggling finding wich one could be the most efficient.
Second I read that you put your 100f in MF mode but I'm afraid I'm missing something here because for me the AFC mode would be more accurate, precise and quicker for subjects in little movements. Tou said in a previous comments " AF-C using the cameras with the X-Trans III sensor is great and accurate" so I'm a bit lost with the BBF and which AF mode to choose.
Thank you again for the attention and the time you spent for those videos.

Hi Truman - you can use the setting in the menu for "Instant AF" to use AFC instead on the BBF. As far as which button is best for you....well, only you can decide on that I guess. Cheers.

Thank you Kevin ! I guess I'm misendertanding something here. BBF and zone focusing . You mentionnened earlier that you set the camera on MF and the use the rear command dial as command for AF so I was a bit confused as how the AF would trigger if you're on MF. I tried on the X-pro 2 and of course it did trigger :)
