Nice find! I recently picked up an 06 as well. No issues other than a bad coil and a thrust arm bushing. I diy'd the rod bearings and vanos line for peace of mind and have dailyed the car ever since. I have other BMW's to drive including an E93 M3, but the E60 M5 is in a class of it's own! The S85 V10 is definitely special.
I’m planning on the diy rod bearings once I get this electrical gremlin out of the way. Learning way more about the BMW electrical system than I though I would ever know! Are you on the forums or FB group?
I already replied, but it didn't show up. I am on I-G and a couple bmw forums. I had some electrical oddities but they all went away when I put in a new battery and registered it with Protools. I hope you get it all sorted!
Great video, looking forward to the next installment. I too have a S85, V10 2007, 85000KM. I run it daily in Dubai, originally imported from Japan. Rod Bearing planning going on now. For suspension please check out the Bilstein B6, if there are none available wait for the next production run to complete in April 2022. I'm holding off until then.
Forget the bad idea below of buying Bilstein B6 - What you really need for your EDC car (and I DIY installed on my '06 M5) is Bilstein B16 DampTronic. Fantastic replacement coilover solution.
When I bought my 2010 I did all the fluids, front control arms, brakes, coil packs and spark plugs. Around 6500 in parts and labor. So really not to far off from what you are going to do. Like others have mentioned do the Rod bearings. I'm do on mine.
Great video, very informative, seems like you had to do a lot of things the previous owner should have done a while ago. But nevertheless, awesome car with legendary engine.
Thanks Steve! Still enjoying every drive but being very respectful of the platform. Hopefully I should be able to show you the condition of the conrod bearings shortly :D
Purchase one with fbmw service history or specialist bmw history , warm the engine and gearbox to temperature keeping the revs below 3k, stick with the recommended oil = 10W-60 castrol , add a bit of preventative maintenance without cheap Chinese parts then you have a reliable car … I’m at 90k now 2007 lci model , I have had oil analysis checks over the years which show very little wear , I’ve changed the throttle actuators so far in four years along with the usual battery, alternator etc and that’s it , I personally wouldn’t use it as a daily it’s more of a weekend toy tbh , fantastic cars along with the E46 M3 both great to drive but this has the edge because of the exhaust sounds 🇬🇧😎👍
Throttle actuators guys are posted throughout the world by a company not far from me ( 15 mins) who I’ve used his name is Jason and the company is REBUILD …. very well known throughout the UK , USA , Canada etc 👌🇬🇧
Awesome! What part of the world are you in? I see the pic and Group B and I remember back to the Sunseeker Rally that I used to watch blasting its way through Bournemouth Gardens :)
The torque is 383 not 373 and the 507/383 hp/tq numbers are those of a stock e60 m5. A Dinan tune is 10hp so you're at about 517/390 crank figures. I also own and daily an 06 m5. Im on my third engine and have 2 for sale for parts. One is not blown ;)
Thanks! I'm just going off Dinan numbers. The "Dinan" badge is confusing to me. To legitimately get that badge, I believe one needs to buy quite a bit of performance parts from Steve Dinan. The numbers you quote, 507hp, that is completely stock numbers. The 373 torque is actually lower than factory, which is 385. the 7,500rpm is low, it's an 8,200rpm engine stock, at 507hp. Looking under it at inspection, where..is the Dinan state2 suspension? I don't know man, I have serious doubts about the Dinan thing
Hey Art, thanks for watching. Not all Dinan packages include ECU tunes. This is the S package that includes an exhaust and handling parts. One thing to consider is that peak power is not at max rpm and the numbers quoted from manufacturers are generally at the crank (and not the wheel). We will soon see what it actually makes when it goes on the dyno! Full details are here if you are interested: www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwin4IXMs5n3AhWbFjQIHbJkB7cQFnoECA0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.m5board.com%2Fattachments%2Fe60-m5-standard1-pdf.148517%2F&usg=AOvVaw0Dp9RmYxH-9lcAn4ij9-n4
With 10W60 oil weight I highly doubt these cars are meant to by daily driven. And I suppose the rod bearing issue on BMW M engines are not the result of bad engineering but of dailying them
I’m going to play with a block heater to see if I can overcome that. It sounds like it is common to reduce the viscosity of the oil especially if the car isn’t going to see any track time. I need to do more research!
its due to idiots not knowing to let the car warm up before smashing it. this is why ,thick oil needs to be heated up if not the lubrication isn't effective inside and thats how those rods go
If it’s your only car be prepared to make more frequency gas stops :) After 16 months, I’m averaging 13.7mpg. I love the engine and the way it drives but a little better gas mileage would be nice!
@@FindingSeconds Oof. I had a 2014 M5 Comp stage 2 and the mileage for that was bad enough, but still worth it. Just from hearing the sound of that V10 through computer speakers makes me want to get one, but most likely not to daily. Have you modded it at all since your last video? Do you plan to? Looking forward to seeing its progression.

@@tinorosmg9374 thanks for the reply! The community would love to know your perspective. After almost 18 months I’m almost at the point of agreeing with you. With how rare and special these cars are there will be a point that it is tucked away for special occasions. What’s your view?
Thank you for adding a real perspective on these cars instead of RUclipsrs just bashing them for views!
It might not get as many clicks but I’m interested in enjoying the car and making it work! Thank you for watching and the comment.
i said the same thing… 👍🏼

Found you on I-G. Looks like you did get lucky with the bearings!
Hey any update on 10 months & anything out of pocket issue wise? Did you get an extended warranty

Ok checking into that. Thanks!
You can press out the bushing on the trust arm super ez. Brings the cost down a lot compared to new arms
Thanks! What about the ball joint?

You don’t need to lift when you shift. Replace the clutch and drive it how it’s suppose to be driven.
At 8k rpm? :)
@@FindingSeconds it feels even better at 8k rpm without the lift my guy
Oh yes, that aggressive shifts at 8k rpm! I love it.
Exactly, bmw designed it like that
Where are all the 09/10s? I don't see them for sale, and I don't see the people who still own them either lol.
