The V10 powered E60 is arguably the most special M5 ever made. High strung/high revving motorsport derived, ITB equipped N/A engines are truly an art form!
Most people may not have loved the design, but the engine certainly was nothing to complain about~ So much power even to this day, and the raw sound of a N/A V10 is just spectacular. Too bad after the R8 and the Huracan being discontinued, there aren't any N/A V10s anymore. Actually, another complaint, the SMG transmission is not the best, but hey, you can't win em all. I don't think it was a bad transmission, you just have to get used to it, and some people like it because of the ferocity of the shifts.

The V10 in the e60 is one of the best sounding engines ever and the car design still looks good today. Love the e34 design and in Daytona Violet is the icing on the cake.
@@OneIssueVoter can’t imagine the nightmares that the V10 gave people. Also the 4.0L N/A V8 in the E90 M3 is pretty much a smaller version of that V10 so it is almost just as nightmare-ish to maintain as well :(

I don’t care how bad maintenance can be on them or if the newer m5’s are faster, as soon as I can comfortably afford it I’m upgrading from my e60 535d to the v10
One of the best sedans ever made in my opinion. The time where BMW design was just perfection. I mean the E46 and E90 3 series, the E38 7 Series, the E39 5 Series, all these cars were just beautiful and timeless in their design.
I had an M5 e28 and I loved that car. The car was a baggy raft when I acquired it and I drove it everywhere in grandad mode. Wish I still owned it and hadn't scrapped it due to rust and the engine was absolutely shagged.
Its so funny that when Daniel dragraces without Matt being in the race the translations are correct and then when he's racing Matt, its just translated into him giving Matt shit, whoever came up with that, keep it up. Its hilarious haha !
That E60 sounds the most badass of them all for me personally - when it picks up speed on the swing camera shot and by the time it reaches the 1/4 mile mark.
I’ve owned both the E39 M5 and currently have the E60 M5 and while the E39 is amazing the sound and feeling of driving the E60 M5 is intoxicating and gets in your bones 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

E60 and E39 easily my favourites, e39 is such a handsome, timeless shape and sounds amazing. E60 still looks modern and that V10 sounds incredible and piles on speed relentlessly, it has much more character than the later boring m5’s also :)
E60 has the best engine out of all the M5s by far, but it also has the worst reliability out of all of them, since they have a tendancy to blow up and not work from rod bearing failures, so better change them sooner than later. Same issue with the E90 M3 with its 4.0L V8. Both are pretty much the same engine with the same problems. Surprised this E60 didn't have a problem with its engine after all the brutal launches it did. I'm sure the owner did their due diligence with their E60.
The s65/85 aren't hard to keep running good anymore, everyone knows what to do. They are just expensive. But having just bought an e60 m5, I don't care.. the noise and how direct the car is makes it 100% worth spending the money to keep it running.
As a previous owner of an e60 m5 this is really beautiful to watch! Sadly my car dropped an injector cylinder 10, siemens injector so it stuck open and flooded/hydrolocked and made a terrible mess 😢 sold it after rebuild and regretted the sale ever since. What a car! Never ever will i experience something so special again, e60 way ahead of its time N/A all the way!!!!

Mannnn, the BMW manual gearbox is so niceeee I had an E46 328i for one winter and the clutch engagement felt so incredible! I could almost feel it as I watched the video during the in-cabin footage lol
S85, contrary to the opinion of couch racers, is considered one of the most reliable engines, and it is more reliable than S63 on F10 and F90. it just so happened that people were not ready for such a technologically advanced motor. It needed maintenance comparable to any sports car, not an ordinary car. More frequent oil changes and more expensive consumables, people were not ready for this then, and killed these motors
Similar to my e39 which had been unloved by its previous owner, I spent the money on it replacing things that had been cheaped out on and it transformed the car. As my foreman at the time commented, when the car was about 14 years old, "she's getting on in years but she's still a thoroughbred and needs treating as such"

@@Quattro_Joe I've had 4 BMW E39s ,2 of them were 540i M sports so i am well versed in E39s. I just made a reference to the e39 m5 being a beast comment. Mercedes in general makes more beats/brutes than BMW does. But BMWs are better to drive and quicker.
E39 is easily the last of the good m5's the e60 is soft and very heavy car. Rather have the e34 and not to mention it has a much higher power potential if you were to go forced induction

First time I saw an E39 M5 it was on a dual carriageway into a nearby city and a girl racer in a Golf GTi was goading the driver into a race. The M5 played along for a while and then its driver floored it - and I swear the colour of light changed around the M5 as it shot away!
You cannot help but claim that the pinnacle of all M5's is the E39. That glorious 5.0L V8 is too freaking good. Still looks timeless, sounds gorgeous, and with a manual gearbox it completes the picture.

I'd still take the E60 all day long, owned one before and it spent more time getting repaired than actually being used, but despite all that, I loved it. When it ran, it sounded magical 👌🏼
When the E34 came out in the states I was 21 years old and I can tell you right now that car looked like a spaceship compared to what was out there at the time...absolutely love the E34 special place for it in my heart ❤️

I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact right before the drive shaft broke. The run before hand he redlighted for sure. Her hands never started to go down until he launched. Not that it mattered ... but still figured someone else would say it. Especially them !
The e39 intake air temp sensors are in the mass air flow sensors, which are directly in the path of the radiator fan outlet. When they sit while running, they do get heat soaked and the ecu pulls ignition timing to compensate, which means a noticeable power drop. Companies sell an IAT relocation kit to move the sensors out of the flow of the radiator, so that they get a more accurate reading.
Anyone notice that the F10 (M5 30 Yara) and the E60 M5 Has actually been on carwow for a long time near when they started drag racing! The E60 M5 was used in a race against an M140i and an 840d in 2019!
As a proud owner myself of a 30 Jahre F10 M5 with a healthy driveshaft 😆 I can agree the sound of the Akrapovic Titanium M Sport exhaust is pure heaven, along with Carbon Ceramic brakes as this car also had makes it the best M5 I have ever owned. I had the E39 and E60 in my younger years 😇
Great video Mat ! I personally owned the F10 a few years back & i loved that car, it was however the competition version plus i think it was mapped as it was running at just shy of 670bhp, had to feather that accelerator else it would burn through those rear tyres.
Those metal balls from the F10, those are from the propshaft CV joint where it meets the rear diff. I've had these apart on my E46 and trust me, I know them well, because they're a PAIN IN THE ARSE 😅

As an owner of a 2006 M6 it is a brilliant car, has been reliable to me 5 years with it. Rod bearings serviced and all regular maintainance done.
My dad had a E28 M5 new , he still says it’s the best car he ever owned.
He’s 77 today and still loves cars ,was in the motor trade all his life .
The E28 BMW M5 in my opinion has around 510bhp.

My first BMW was an ‘86 E28 535i. Loved that car. I even autocrossed it and did fairly well. They sure knew how to make sport sedans back then.

My favorite is the E39, best car ever made. Easily worked on without any crazy special tooling and the looks... such a nice looking car.

I just got myself a f10 m5 stage 2 with 720hp and it just feels soo unreal, legit went from golf mk2 1.6 to that and its one of my dream cars

E60 M5 with that low amount of mileage is mind blowing 🤯
Yeah and it's 13 years old :O Owner never drove it that much, so hence why the engine is still in a pretty good condition and didn't fail.

Very true! That car is a timeless classic and connects the old and the new.
First time I saw an E39 M5 it was on a dual carriageway into a nearby city and a girl racer in a Golf GTi was goading the driver into a race. The M5 played along for a while and then its driver floored it - and I swear the colour of light changed around the M5 as it shot away!

You cannot help but claim that the pinnacle of all M5's is the E39. That glorious 5.0L V8 is too freaking good. Still looks timeless, sounds gorgeous, and with a manual gearbox it completes the picture.
Having owned one I would agree. It was utterly sensational, and mine had a rear muffler delete so the sound it made was insane.

I don't know if it's the recording, but in this video, the E39 sounded the best to me. I love the bark it has.
I'd still take the E60 all day long, owned one before and it spent more time getting repaired than actually being used, but despite all that, I loved it. When it ran, it sounded magical 👌🏼
That E34 is a beautiful car, an upgrade especially in design, although it was also much more expensive than its predecessor.
That E34 design has aged remarkably well!

When the E34 came out in the states I was 21 years old and I can tell you right now that car looked like a spaceship compared to what was out there at the time...absolutely love the E34 special place for it in my heart ❤️

I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact right before the drive shaft broke. The run before hand he redlighted for sure. Her hands never started to go down until he launched. Not that it mattered ... but still figured someone else would say it. Especially them !

The e39 intake air temp sensors are in the mass air flow sensors, which are directly in the path of the radiator fan outlet. When they sit while running, they do get heat soaked and the ecu pulls ignition timing to compensate, which means a noticeable power drop. Companies sell an IAT relocation kit to move the sensors out of the flow of the radiator, so that they get a more accurate reading.

Anyone notice that the F10 (M5 30 Yara) and the E60 M5 Has actually been on carwow for a long time near when they started drag racing! The E60 M5 was used in a race against an M140i and an 840d in 2019!

As a proud owner myself of a 30 Jahre F10 M5 with a healthy driveshaft 😆 I can agree the sound of the Akrapovic Titanium M Sport exhaust is pure heaven, along with Carbon Ceramic brakes as this car also had makes it the best M5 I have ever owned. I had the E39 and E60 in my younger years 😇

Great video Mat ! I personally owned the F10 a few years back & i loved that car, it was however the competition version plus i think it was mapped as it was running at just shy of 670bhp, had to feather that accelerator else it would burn through those rear tyres.
Those metal balls from the F10, those are from the propshaft CV joint where it meets the rear diff. I've had these apart on my E46 and trust me, I know them well, because they're a PAIN IN THE ARSE 😅
