Hi Mat, because of you I have decided to, for the first time in my life, change front disks with brake pads and tie rod ends on my 15 year old car on my driveway. I'm proud to say its a success. The money I saved on labour can now be channeled towards a urgent timing belt change at the mechanic shop. Greetings from Cape town and thank you for inspiring me to have the courage to do something I had no clue on how to work on my car.
Nice man. That's how it goes. Small jobs here and then. Pads and disks today, oil change tomorrow. You slowly buy the tools and work up the courage to eventually do the timing belt yourself.

I am sure someone else has mentioned this in the comments but here I go just in case not....where the 1/4 panel meets the other parts I would normally put a sleeve behind the joint. Here the idiot who crashed didn’t have insurance….but Mat rescued a build that your average ‘repair shop’ wouldn’t touch because they want guaranteed profits and zero risk. Having seen what was done here, i fail to understand how this car is a danger to drive. Yes a massive knob hitting you at 50 miles per hour with his Cybertruck will do serious damage - how will the REBUILT CRumple zones, new impact bumper be less ‘safe’? @@shaun9905
Definitely black armrest. This build is rapidly turning into my favourite build you’ve done. Loved all you’ve done but there’s just something about this one. Apologies for delay I watching this one. All the best 👍💪
I've been panel beating for years and I would say you've done great with that 1/4 panel. Doing inner structural panels isn't easy work. It's messy, time consuming and just not nice in general. It's a shame you couldn't spot weld more of those panels as plug welding will change the properties of the panels making them more rigid which is fine but if it's involved in another accident they won't crumple as they were originally designed to do but realistically it will most likely be fine. Nice work!
I learned this by seam welding my race car. When I got hit the damage traveled a lot further in the chassis than it would have without the seam welding.
Not an expert, but I'm very interested in your point regarding the crash properties of a repair like that. I suppose it's the main reason why some car repairers on RUclips have been heavily criticised? (see Arthur Tussik's criticism). Thanks.
@@L_78_ Basically the structures of modern cars are built to bend and fail in certain ways to minimize the forces the people within the car are subjected to. Going from spot welds to plug welds changes those failure modes to the point it likely will increase the forces passengers feel if there is another impact on that corner, as well as potentially causing more extensive damage to the vehicle as those forces are spread through more of the structure of the car before they are used up.
@@L_78_ when we repair cars in the body shop we have methods that we have to abide by. A lot of modern German cars are welded from factory but the repair methods say they need to be bonded and riveted in the repair methods. I did an A class Merc not long ago that was part bonded and riveted. Spot welded in places and MIG welded in other places. It's a ball ache to be honest but we have to do it.
Jack makes me want to get into bodywork he's so incredibly good at fixing cars, loved his first series and he's so good at explaining the whole process.
You can buy an end for the seam sealer that gives you the factory finish Salvage Rebuilds use it might be worth giving them a shout ? Best way in terms of a quality repair Matt well done
Self piercing rivets not spot welds , when you put a new quarter panel on you get plates that you glue behind the butt joints on the C pillar and the sill, you do NOT weld the gaps you just fill them , that is the Thatcham and BMW methods .Ive fitted quite a few of these over the years. I even know of a story where someone took their car to be serviced BMW picked up the car wasnt repaired correctly and the preverbial hit the fan and the company that repaired it ended up buying the car
I was thinking exactly the same thing, BMW are bond and rivet. Only snag is, I'm pretty sure he's not BSI approved so technically doesn't have to follow any repair methods 🤔.
Take advantage of every second of this. I lost my dad at 26. I'd take a bullet in the head to have one day with him. Anything. An the channel wouldn't be the same without your dad. Cherish it Matt. Your so lucky! Don't take a second without him for granted. It's so awesome

@7he4040 I don't really get this... ev's aren't as clean as ypu think... that electric power has a source you know... like powerplants? Driven by gas or coal, sometimes nuclear... it is not all solarpower or wind energy... keeping a car on the road is not as unsensible as it might look. Any new car being built causes more pollution than the car produces in its working life... So keeping a car on the road is not so bad considering...
@@fretlessfender it's not problem of electric vehicles that electric companies produces energy from coal as example. Lot of people have solar panels, also lot of regions in my country already over 90% green energy
@@fretlessfender and believe me or not, your beliefs aren't correct. production doesn't cause pollution, if made with electricity gathered from sun, or water flow
@@7he4040 yes you are right.. but there is a big IF isn't there... Don't get me wrong, I do applaud everything that is being done to make energy green... but the fact that the main part is still grey is putting people sand in their eyes... Hey Mat. Brad from Vancouver, Canada. Here's an idea on applying seam sealer. Try using a one to 2 in plastic spatula and a spray bottle mixed with dish soap and water. Then spray a light mist on the spatula and seam sealer that you applied with a brush. With the spatula use light pressure over the seam sealer for a baby smooth finish, that even the manufacturers would be proud of. Of course, not too much soapy water. Mat, you should be very proud of your accomplishments. I know l am. And your Dad, what a blast he is.!!! Cheers, Brad

Well then why are you even interested in watching Mat’s repair and build. It is obvious he has take great care to get below the ‘skin’ replace failed parts with original. Look how detailed his rivetting was!
Today nobody wants to repair when ‘the insurance company pays’ driving up Insurance for all of us.

This was amazing! All the work you did, but also capturing it and explaining it, nobody does it like you and your team, Mat! AWESOME
this is the best video ,its fixing parts and not just replacing parts.
There's a reason why parts are replaced
@seanfox4551 I understand but it's more interesting when it's fixed
It's a pain but takes skill and more relatable!👌👊💪
Are you blind? They replaced A LOT of parts.
@j.d.8593 obviously this video just had more improvising to it
I don't think the majority of viewers will ever realize exactly how difficult and how good this rebuild/repair was.
Definitely black armrest. This build is rapidly turning into my favourite build you’ve done. Loved all you’ve done but there’s just something about this one. Apologies for delay I watching this one. All the best 👍💪
Nice job welding, Matt! The sparks travel far, so better cover up the interior better when doing the jams. Seam sealer looks great!
Thanks mate!!
Subbed to Jack, what a legend for helping!
Matt i know I speak for nearly everyone when I say, "We LOVE your channel and your attitude. You give us hopefuls knowledge to learn and try!"
Love SRUK. I could watch them daily Chris is a magician 🎩 , Rob brings it all together

Not a BM fan but bloody hell what you have done is amazing. You have shown how to repair a car that well others would be scared off. nice motor.
Take advantage of every second of this. I lost my dad at 26. I'd take a bullet in the head to have one day with him. Anything. An the channel wouldn't be the same without your dad. Cherish it Matt. Your so lucky! Don't take a second without him for granted. It's so awesome
Smoke from combustion engines makes people live 8 years shorter in average. Listen to that guy, JUST ONE DAY would make such a big difference for him.. 8 years.. think about that before you again gonna hate electric vehs. U don't have to buy it for urself yet. Just let people buying it and making them evolve faster.
At this time EV's are only green at the places that they are driving, not at the place where their power comes from...
And please you don't really think that car manufacturers are totally powered by the sun, do you?
Been watching since the TT on the driveway. Crazy to see how good the builds have gotten. This is top notch content and work. Congrats to everyone who worked on the g80
Now it feels like Sunday!
Your dad is such an awesome guy! Has a great personality and amazing vibe. Has a big smile and seems really happy. A real character. Such great times to spend together! And your growing team. ❤
On this sort of jobs, Jack is an absolute wizard. The work is has done on his Evo is actual perfection. And all that reflects on this M3. It's crazy!
Matt loved the collaboration with you and Jack what a fantastic job you and your team did on the BMW keep up the good work.
Jack is just pure class. Would love to commission him to do some work.
The amount of work and detail you go to is beyond amazing👌🏼so sick good job mat and your dad is so funny lucky to have him around 😂🤙🏼
Seeing Jack work and then everything lining up perfectly is deeply satisfying lol
Jack makes the repair look so straightforward. He is a true master of his craft. Amazing video gentlemen ye *AWM39V* was right! Thanks for letting us know about *AWM39V*
Fantastic to see your dad working with you my dad has never done 1 single thing with me ever no matter what I've been doing he has never took one bit of interest in what i was doing or even been to anything I've been involved in you really don't realise how lucky you are he's fantastic
Same bro and it sucks
Long time watcher new subscriber. Matt your shows are excellent. Much love from FLORIDA

Watching from SA🇿🇦❤
SAME its LOADSHEDING FOR ME RHIGHT NOW
Jack is a bodywork magician incredible work just proves anything is possible what a build this is now
I know little beyond basic maintenance about cars but the work and commitment shown in these rebuilds is mind blowing.
Just in awe of everything you guys do.
And the videos are so addictive to watch, fascinating stuff.
This one in particular was superbly done. Look forward to seeing it post paint. Hats off team.
Let’s get Mat to 3 million subscribers by the end of the year
Finally. Felt like I waited years, Thank you MAT!
Your father is really a good man 👏👏👏🫡🫡
I get blown away more and more with every video you put out, the amount of seemingly impossible work you manage to achieve is amazing. So many people, even professionals would have just taken one look at that car and said impossible to repair, yet you’ve proved them soo wrong, without experience, expertise, jigs etc etc you’ve managed to do it. Great Job Mat and team 👍🏻
Im surprised the M3 has single piston non-Brembo calipers in the rear. BMW is trying to save every penny on the car
Hello guys from Romania , all the best for you !
Mat Armstrong o'clock🎉🎉🎉❤
You guys are awesome, but jack is Another level!!! Thanks for the amazing contents 🙏🏻
40 minute video turned into a hour because of all the damn ads
Matt you definitely deserve your own show if I’m honest you’re up there with top gear because it’s not just repairing crashed cars there’s all the road trips and track racing different countries you bought a crashed GT3 in Florida just off photos very risky but it’s content and people forget about all the behind scenes work that you and your crew do and to be able to do all of this with your Dad and you gave him a Ferrari to show your appreciation you’re a top guy and your a humble person and deserve all the success in the world
The best part of your video's isn't just the car's it's you and your pop's building to gether. And rest of the team 👍
This is amazing, the amount of work you've covered in this video is insane, so satisfying to watch 👏🏼
Loving your videos for the past year Mat! You've also encouraged me to get my own M4 and fix it up. Difference is I'm not as engaged in fixing it, but at some point I'm thinking about doing it as well. Keep up the amazing content!
I can't believe you guys had the entire rear quarter of the car removed 10 minutes in. With having Jack on the team the three of you are unstoppable. Pretty cool the previous owner had that entire replacement quarter. I don't think anyone else would have attempted this repair!
Hi Matt, I admire you and how far you’ve come sorry I haven’t watch you for a while. 😊
Bro mad respect to you. Like I think this is the biggest project you ever had and it is insane. I actually love your content and those type of videos and specially the videos you made bulding this BMW M3 and the progres you made is insaine and ubealiveble. Much respect and keep doing these type of videos. PS I am a preatty new subscriber here and I already love your content.
Outstanding mate fair play to you . She’s looking great look even better when painted. Top content. Keep it coming 👍🏻
Matt, you've given me confidence to work on my own motor.
Even just something simple like a service, gave me such a huge feeling of accomplishment.
Now I'm doing more and more bits!!!
Everyone's gotta start somewhere
Only in cosby, so not far from you at all lad 🖖🏼🤙🏼
Hello Mat, I am from Argentina, from the city of Messi. I really like your restoration, I discovered it just 1 week ago and I watched all the videos hahaha. Keep doing them
