This video helped me repair my 19 year old Amana washer. Very satisfying doing it myself. Thank you.
You are welcome!
This is exactly what I need to do on the washer I bought back in 1998. It looks like the same model. I could probably figure it out, but it is so nice to first watch someone else do exactly what I need to do, and hear about and notice any little details like remembering the washers on the top bolts. Great video, and thank you!
You're welcome! We're glad to hear it was helpful.
This video was so helpful! Thank you.
I didn't install the belt around the 3 pulleys correctly the first time but when it started making a noise as the belt was too loose I repositioned the belt and figured it out.
Thanks! I couldn't find any other videos that showed this. Mine is a Amana, same design.
Boy, that made the job easy. I think if you have done this once, you could easily have the old belt off in 5 minutes the next time. The idler pulley was also bad- seized up on the spindle. I didn't know there was just a bushing in the pulley so I didn't try to save it. I easily could have removed the pulley from the bracket, carefully drive out the spindle, clean it all up, lightly lube with anti-seize and slap it back together which would have saved a good bit of money. A very good video- clear, short and to the point.
Great video! I was able to follow the belt replacement step by step without any problems. The only difference was that the drain pump & motor on my washer were a lot closer to the bottom of the washer, and it was nearly impossible to slide my hand under. Thank You!
Best video to do this job ever!!
Great video very informative keep up the good work.
Just what I NEEDED!! Thanks
You're welcome! Happy to help.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and was able to replace the belt with no issues and the washer did 3 loads and then stopped spinning again checked flywheels and the belt all good. Assuming the flywheel engaged by spring is not functioning properly? the motor wheel is spinning and have purchased the exact belt in manual. What should I be looking for now?
Helped a lot and I got the part from you too. :)
Thanks, now my wife can get back to work.
Great video, I had a similar unit probably a little older. Video still was helpful and well done.
Glad we could help!
This is so similar to a speed queen, uncanny.
Great video.
Great video, it was a bit harder than you made it look but that is true for every how to video I have ever seen. Two weeks or so later and the motor fell off and I have to do it over again. There were no lock washers on the fairly short bolts should I use a thin toothed washer or a common split lock washer and lose that much length? Really don't want to do this again in another two weeks.
Helped me out a lot but it did take considerably longer than 6 minutes like in the video. Lol! Pay attention to every detail! They matter!
Thanks for the video.
Thank you. Wish the pump came off that easy, but a new one was pretty cheap. A little therapeutic time with a crowbar.
Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!
Great video. One thing is to make sure to put a tray under the hoses before removing and after - I had allot more water than anticipated. Also make sure to bolt exactly by his steps when remounting the motor if you put the top bolts in first it's nearly impossible getting the other bottom bolts on -so do the bottom first - not super tight then the top bolt screw holes will align then screw those and tighten all.
Also when putting in the belt make sure to put the belt first where those water hose clamp side are located . Go to the other side to slide it over..it will be allot easier doing it this way because you have more room to pull it over
Thanks for your feedback and tips!
Ok having troubles with that plug. Does not just go back in. Any tips? Or maybe it is in but I get no actuation just a noise ? Like it wants to run but doesn't. Motor by plug area gets real warm but won't kick in. Belt back on already. Thanks for any help!
Great ending !!!! Tell your husband it's time to do the laundry !!!! LOL
+Chowdy Chopz Glad the video helped you out!
Thank you so much! I was able to do with this video.
+Ron Chun Awesome, glad you got the washer fixed!
Great Video Got the job done..Liked comment fromRich put the bottom bolts in first!!!
Happy to help!
When replacing the drive belt, make sure you measure it and only buy one that matches those measurements. Otherwise, there is a risk you will be returning it. My first new one was 4 inches shorter than the original one, even though it was advertised for my washer model. The original one was 32 1/4 " long, but I could only find new ones that were either 32" or 32.5" long. I went with a 32" one and it works perfectly.
Marvelous video...thanks. The internals of my ALW540RAW Amana washer are exactly like this, except i don't have as much clearance to place a pan to catch the water as it comes out of the pump. Also, my case comes off differently. The front panel is in two parts. Anyone with that model (supposedly commercial grade) should start the same way--remove two screws at the bottom front--but then there are two more for the upper front panel. It may help to remove the two screws at the top of the back panel so the lid and its associated panel can rock forward. I did that, not sure it's necessary. Hint to RUclips seekers: I looked all over, but what landed me on this video was typing in the make, model number and word "belt" (Amana ALW540RAW belt). Who knows how Google AI makes these associations...the unit here is appreciably different.
Thank you for your time involved for this video it is very helpful I took the 3 screws out but the pump won't come off something is holding it on please help if u can thanks again
I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?
thanks for posting
Glad the video helped you get the belt changed!
This video was a great help in replacing the worn out belt on my commercial grade Amana washer. The washer was making banging noise at low speed spinning due to idle pulley moving back and forth, riding on the weak belt. At high speed spinning the noise went away possibly because the idle pulley did not have time to make such move on a fast belt. In my case the motor mount bolts were 1/2 ". Also the water pump was mounted using security screws. I am a casual DIY . The position of belt replacement took time. Watch and mark the position at 3.02. The belt straddles one of the pump motor post. Also releasing the idle spring on the outer end temporarily, made mounting of the belt on the transmission pulley simpler. Putting spring back was simple. Made my washer sound like new now.
Also water comes out of the pump when removing the motor assembly from washer. Be prepared with a rag.
Thanks for the tips, glad you got the washer fixed!
Gracias!!!!
I have the same model basically. My belt looks fine but seems a little stretched out . Do I need to replace the belt or somehow tighten the tensioner ?
go to auto parts store and get a 33in 1/2in belt. make sure its a mower belt not a auto belt. the mower belts are harder and also can spin grip.
I replaced a broken belt as per this video. The belt just slips with the pulley of the motor. So the washer does not agitate and spins slowly. What could be the problem.
Thank you for the video. It was a huge help. Like another commenter I had very little space under my pump so it took a little work to get the motor out but everything went well. Folks watching this video need to keep an eye on how the new belt is placed on the motor. The video shows it perfectly but you may want to pause it a few times to get it right. There is also a spring in the front of the motor that can be extended to allow you to place the belt around the agitator more easily. 👍
Can u show us how to change the pulley please
My old belt burnt out badly with lots of smoke. I have installed new belt no problem. Now I have issue on high speed rinse cycle. Water is draining fine, tub is rotating fine, BUT water somehow climes up on tab and escapes from holes on very top. Spills everywhere.
So strange, any ideas?
What is your model number?
Friend has this setup but drain pump will not pull up after removing tork screws . What could be the problem?
Are you sure all the screws were removed? What is the model number of the appliance?
Excelente
Thank you. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
I hope this process is the same on my old Crosley.
It might give you the general idea, though it probably isn't identical. If you need additional help with the repair outside of what's demonstrated in the video, you can give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 or you can chat us at our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/. We’re here to help 7 days a week.
what happens if you cant remove the water pump? i have removed the 3 tork screws. but the water pump will not come off
You can try to put some penetrating oil where the motor shaft and the pump are connected, let it soak in and then try to lift the pump up while rocking it back and forth.
Thanks for the video, just a little thing is can you please in future videos put the model of the machine in the title so that we can go directly to it instead of looking up all the video, Thanks again.
Can I use hex key to screw on water pump?
You might be able to do this, but you might also risk stripping the head. We recommend using the proper tools for the job to avoid that potential.
How do I stretch the belt to fit both wheels???
The spring-loaded idler pulley maintains the belt tension. There is no stretching or adjustment involved. Make sure the belt is routed properly.
I’ve taken the screws off the drain pump but it’s stuck? I’ve repeatedly tried pulling it but it just won’t loosen up.. what can I do without messing anything up? Or would I have to break the pump? Any help thanks!
Hey Ricardo. I'm in the same position. Did you figure it out?
@@tracyoneill9580 Hi Tracy!! So yes I just broke it off with a flat head screwdriver and hammer, and I ordered an after market part. I probably spent no more then $15-20 on Amazon. Hope that helps.. 🤞🏽
@@tracyoneill9580 oh and when you do break it off, break it on top the pump itself.
Why do you have to pull the motor unit? A right angle tool could unscrew the white water pump, I see enough clearance to get the pump off. Answer = read comments about difficulty just removing the pump. - a crowbar?
The pump attachment screws are Torx head which are buried deep inside recesses. Very difficult to impossible to get them out with the limited clearance available.
theres no space underneath for me to pull the motor out from
Oops. Torx-20 is the security screw driver
On the older speed queen washer you could change a belt in 5 minutes then they designed this piece of junk.
Yes the old ones were different design!
It's not that bad. Try working on an older GE where the washer has to be turned over to replace a belt.No easy task in a small basement.
Can not get the pump off the motor! Someone help!

I know this was a year ago.. But yours was prob the model without screws...just snaps on.
As a career commercial director and filmmaker, I am skeptical when viewing repair vids. But this one actually does a decent job and places the camera where you can see what you need to see, instead of a hairy back. But...I had to look again and thought oh...he shows himself easily re-installing...then I photographed a still frame(2) and zoomed in...craftly disolve match-cut where the motor was in front then one frame later deftly behind the impossible to get around diagonal wire. Get ready for a wrestling match.
We do our best to film our videos in such a way that people can see what's going on, even though it can be difficult inside tight spaces.
