Paiste boy -- you totally rock! My model was a little different but because of your skilled video and great narrative I was able to fix my washer! Can't believe it's still working after 20 years -- wouldn't hesitate to buy another Amana. Thanks a bunch!

Stevie B ..... You'll have to buy a Speed Queen. Amana got bought out by Maytag in 2002. Their machines were rebranded Maytags. In 2006, Maytag got bought out by Whirlpool. Now, the Amana machines are rebranded Whirlpools. Amana was owned by Raytheon. Raytheon owned Speedqueen. That's who made the Amana machines.

I did it according your guidance, but found easier to, first put the belt behind the pulley, RELEASE the tension spring and easily fit the belt on the second wheel.. THANK YOU..!

Your machine was manufactured in 1997 according to your serial number. I noticed your tub and transmission are indexing a bit which means it's almost time for new brake pads. I think you were absolutely correct to look at the water pump first for leaking. I have the 2000 model and just recently replaced the seal, bearings and brake pads. These are great machines and we need to keep them running as long as possible then buy a Speed Queen which are almost still identical to our Amanas.

When replacing the drive belt, make sure you measure it and only buy one that matches those measurements. Otherwise, there is a risk you will be returning it. My first new one was 4 inches shorter than the original one, even though it was advertised for my washer model. The original one was 32 1/4 " long, but I could only find new ones that were either 32" or 32.5" long. I went with a 32" one and it works perfectly.

Excellent video. I have the same washer and have read that if you remove the two tub stabilizer springs, and tilt the tub forward, the screws for the pump are obtainable. this would enable you to change the pump and or belt without removing the motor. I am going to try it in a few days when my new pump and belt arrive. A word of caution for your viewers, if you run this pump dry, aka run the spin cycle without water (to say..check your new belt...) you will destroy the pump and replacement will be necessary.

lot of work to get the water pump out.
The pump on other brands are held by simple clamps. Release couple of clamps, and the pump pops out easily.

Yeah, I bought my Ryobi cordless drill because my other one was not worth buying new batteries for. I may have to get new batteries though since I have so many power tools that use those 18 volt batteries.

paisteboy I have a couple of the Ryobi cordless 18V units. Buy the lithium batteries and charger for them. Much better but still not as good as the Milwaukee set I bought a few years back. I never use the Ryobis now.

I had same problem. I was able to force it off. Watch out for the pulley, don't want to pry on it...I did and bent it up. My pulley is fused to the shaft so had to carefully bend back to being straight again. There is something different about our motors, I found it hard to put the new pump on as well. Seems to work ok after a little pain. Good luck

    • @Paisteboy

Cool. We ended up doing it twice. The first rebuild was because a mechanic that rebuilt the bottom end didn't use new cir clips on the pistons and one came loose and trashed one side. The second rebuild (in HD video) was because my brother let his sled run out of oil. Thanks for watching.
