  • The Drum Wasn't Spinning, And Something Is Burning. The Washer Has A Burn Smell. So We Have A Tech To Come Out To Take A Look At It. We Could Have Figure Out The Problem Ourself, But, Since It Is Still Under Warranty, Make More Sense To Have Them Look At It.
    As You Can See This Is A Commercial Washer From Speed Queen. I Only Have The Washer For Less Than A Month. This Shouldn't Have Happen, Especially, It Is Commercial Grade Washer!!! Plus It Is Brand New!
    I Used To Have Maytag, The Old Model, For More Than 10 Years. My Maytag Finally Gave Up, So We Replaced It With Speed Queen. I Heard Speed Queen Is Good, Dont Know What Went Wrong.
    So, As You Can See In The Video, The Tech Opens The Washer Up, Immediately, Found The Belt Is The Problem. Toward The End Of The Video. He Mentioned That This Could Happen Due To Overload, By Items Such As Blanket, Pillow, And Rugs, Which Should Not Be In This Washer.. Hmm!!!! Rug, That I Can Understand, Because Even With Regular Washer, The Rug Gets Loose And Clogs The Washer. I Wash My Blanket And Pillow All The Time With Consumer Grade Washer. I'm Surprise To Know That A Commercial Grade Washer Can't Handle Blanket.
    On Top Of Changing The Belt, We Make Sure That The Washer Is Stable (By Adjusting The Bottom Legs That Keeps The Washer Station.) I'm Thinking The Reason The Belt Could Have Get Out Of Place, Maybe Because The Washer Is Moving All Over The Place. Heavy Load? I'm Not Sure. But Thank This Tech For Coming Out And Fixed The Problem.
    Sorry That This Video Didn't Provide Any Deep Instruction On How To Replace The Belt, But I Hope By Visual, It Helps Solved Your Washer Problems! Replacing The Belt Seem Simple Enough, And Very Straightforward. You Only Need To Take Out A Few Parts To Get To The Belt.
    Good Luck!!

    I had a older SQ model where the motor and pump assembly had to be removed as a whole unit. This looks a lot easier if I ever need to change a belt. Truth about overloading these washers, small loads are best. My last SQ lasted 24 Years.

    Well I’ve had mine for 10 years and just now replacing the belt so I’d say I’m doing good. I love my speed queen

    They had a bad batch of belts on new machines.
    To replace the belt, you have to remove the 3 clips that hold the pump to the motor. Then kind of work your way around to install the new belt around the pulley and idler. Reattach pump. Good to go

      And if the tensioner pulley is worn, wiggles, -- it should also be replaced. A part that includes a new belt - so what’s the difference - you’d need to remove the motor and the bracket that holds the idler assembly to the motor - replace the idler pulley, the spring, the metal support and the idler spindle - all easy to do and saves the customer another call ten months down the road.

    Super fast repair job!!! We have a Commercial SpeedQueen AWN432SP and it does a good job. The manual is silent as to what can be washed inside although the biggest item mentioned therein are towels. With an extra large tank I see no reason why blankets cannot be washed. It is a matter of common sense in using such washers. Maybe the user packed it full and the tub bounced around which jerks the belt and idler? That might explain why the belt is all chewed up or it was just a defective belt. The Mrs. does take pillows and throw rugs to the laundromat as those places have big front loaders for large items and you need extra space for better AGITATION and effective cleaning. Crowding up a washer limits the ability of the washer to do a good cleaning job!!

    This is similar to my AWM593 - you can't see the belt tensioner he has to reach around and pull back to drop the belt off the main pulley.. My guess is the belt stretches more than the tensioner can take up, so it slips - maybe it takes 10-15 years to stretch. . I opened the lid smoke came out of the basket full of spun out clothes. Great.
    Mine has the motor farther from the center, not all under the drum.

      Me too. Daughters underwear. I put in a new belt, pulley, and spring. It was only a week later and the belt broke. Lots of belt slippage and belt smoking. Took tub out to inspect everything and everything seemed normal. Transmission spun ok, brake, etc was ok. Then, per this comment, I looked between the inner and outer liner and found the clothing. Now I need to order a new belt but am confident the clothing was the issue.

    I have a 1998 swt121, coin operated, love it, but it quit working, when plugged in the "in use"and "rinse" lights stay on, but it does nothing..no noise, no action, nothing..I've asked 2 or 3 repairmen about it but none seem to have any ideas?..I did replace the belt a while back, but it worked fine until now...I don't want to give up on it, but I have no clue. I did try bypassing the lid switch,made no difference. Ideas?

    I changed the belt (as i only found this video now i removed the engine), the old belt was almost gone, missing parts. But now the washer does not spin, it starts, then stop and i can smell something burning. If i turn it off and wait for some time, i can turn it on and it spin a little more, than stop again. I removed almost all the water manually, than the washer managed to spin out just a litte amount of water. Don´t know what else is wrong.

    put on a new belt and it still won't spin, someone told me there is a switch that goes off to stop it from a fire... where is that switch located? once it goes off do you have to replace that too or can you flip it back on

    • @patrickmccleary1144
      @patrickmccleary1144 3 года назад +1

      It's a thermally controlled switch very similar to a garbage disposal and generally they are on the bottom of the motor it's usually about half the size of a pencil in circumference it's a little square red button that pops out make sure the machine is unplugged, after the machine is unplugged turn the machine on that should dissipate any capacitors or other things that hold a charge. And then you can feel around for the little red button.

    So...my SQ is 3.5 years old and the belt just busted. It was all dry and cracked. Definitely quality issues...I work on cars and I've never seen a belt so cracked, not even on a 20+ year old belt. Another thing is this washer is rusting all over the place, at the lid hinge, rust when I opened up the front door on the steel rim edge underside, and on the black outer drum where top/bottom half have a flange. I had a 20-30yo maytag before, and it was hardly rusted.
    Btw, How do you all check the area between the inner and outer tubs as a few have mentioned? how does the lid lift up so you pop the ring?

    • @dyer2cycle
      @dyer2cycle 4 года назад +2

      ..old Maytags were very good quality...they got bought out by Whirlpool, they are not high quality machines any more, just run-of-the mill consumer stuff...everyone is obsessed with "features" and electronics on washers now...more crap to tear up and go wrong...and they don't give two hoots about the build quality or design of the mechanical components..you know, the part of the washer that actually washes clothes...just expensive, troublesome gadgets that don't last......

      @akilbrewley9431 6 лет назад

      3 years? You are still a rookie......Ive been repairing appliances professionally for over 10 years. But I still have to disagree with you. I knew a guy who outfitted his laundry with 5 speed queen commercial machines and within 2 months all the belts needed changing. Some were shredded and some were slipping so bad you could smell rubber burning. I changed the belts with a heavy duty belt and ive had no complaints since. I agree that speed queen is a very good machine and easy to work on but 90% of the problems I have with the newer machines are belt issues and once I replace the oem belt with a better quality one I have no further issues as far as belts go. Also I think your logic is a bit flawed. Why buy a $1000+ machine if you cant wash sheets, blankets, towels and the bulky stuff?

      Akil Brewley I will contest there is a number of wet pounds on any given machine that is designed to handle.. You exceed that regularly and you will get trouble. Old speed Queen sales guy and service department man here. Know the machines limits and load it accordingly.

      @R. Ive Speed Queen has been in Wisconsin for well over 100 years. That is where their manufacturing facility is, yes sure there is going to be a lot of parts made in China but the machine like the one above is analog. So it doesn't have any circuit boards. I have one just like it and I had to put a new belt on it because the old one had been on it since 1994.
