The Coaster Busch Gardens Tampa Needs...

  • If you're a long time viewer of the channel, then you would know that I love SeaWorld. In my opinion, they are the chain that does everything right, and that is quality over quantity. SeaWorld Orlando has only six coasters, but anyone can argue that all of those coasters are quality attractions and some of the best of their kinds. The same goes for Busch Gardens Williamsburg, there adding coasters at a steady rate about every 2-3 years, and they are all mostly expensive rides, look at their top 3… all B&Ms. Verbolten costs $50 Million, now they are getting Pantheon. All summed up, SeaWorld is willing to invest to get the crowds in, and other chains should take note because its working. They plan on spending another $65 Million on their parks for 2021. Anyways let's get into Busch Gardens Tampa, and what coaster they need next. If you were to ask me a couple years ago what coaster they should get my two answers were, an RMC Dueling Hybrid with the Gwazi Structure or a B&M Hyper. A B&M Hyper would have been fantastic, Busch Gardens already has three awesome B&Ms and though a couple of them are getting old, it would be nice to see a modern B&M for old traditions sake. This is all well and good until SeaWorld Orlando announced Mako which would be the new B&M hyper to Florida. Part of me wants to believe that Mako was originally going to Busch because they have the height limit of 200ft when SeaWorld does not. Later down the road the two parks were probably talking and came to the conclusion that it would be a better fit in Orlando so they stuck with that. That's also why I think it took Iron Gwazi a little longer to get built, because they had to go through a lot to break that 200ft limit. Anyways, the B&M hyper is off the table because why would they add the same ride at a park an hour away, something like what Williamsburg and Kings Dominion does, they add different attractions. A hyper coaster is still a gap in their lineup. Yes, they are getting a modern hyper hybrid, but that might be too intense for some people and cause it to get smaller lines. Take Lightning Rod for instance, it's a great ride and it's very intense, but the people would rather ride Wild Eagle because it's much more enjoyable. That's why I think they will eventually add another hyper but this time make it more of a traditional model with a drawn out drop, giant airtime hills giving floater and lifter airtime, and another addition like that would get guests back in the park after several years since Iron Gwazi opened. So we already crossed B&M off the list because of Mako, so what other manufacturers are willing to build hypercoasters… believe it or not, there's quite a few. First I'm just gonna cross another one off the list and that is RMC, because Busch already has an RMC hyper. Companies that are willing to make hypers are Mack, Vekoma, Intamin, S&S, and Chance Morgan.

    I feel Kumba has low ridership because it's at the rear of the park and low visibility to the crowds, not because it's old. It's a solid B&M coaster to be as old as it is. BGT does need a Giga and a Dark Ride.

      I have to agree. I do love me some Kumba. But it's in the back and typically last on most people's list. I've lived in Tampa for most of my life and only recently started going to BGT. And while the other rides (Im looking at you Cheetah Hunt) have outrageous wait times I go straight to Kumba. But it's not long before the wait time starts getting higher. I believe it's still a popular ride.

    1. Some sort of indoor ride
    2. Some sort of indoor ride

      Retract Kumba Maybe give it Floorless trains and a Cutback in between the corkscrews for a new inversion. It is one of the only rides to be on the Top 50 Steel Coaster list since 1998 when they first started doing it. Montu is also in that category. Keep these old B&Ms as a reminder of what the company started out as and to keep the park well rounded. Intamin Giga is what we need.

    Kumba never has a line because it can handle way more riders per hour than other coasters. The more coasters the park has, the further the ridership will go down. No getting rid of Kumba! It's a fantastic must-ride everytime I go to the park! It's true it always seems to have no wait times, but I feel it's because it's in the back of the park and VERY hidden. You can't even SEE it from where most of the visitor traffic has to walk to get to the big boys like Montu and Sheikra (and now Tigris), and Shiekra isn't even that far away from it. Only folks willingly trying to find it or going to cool off in Congo River Rapids will even spot it.
    This can be solved if it got a new neighbor in the form of a brand new coaster though ;) Maybe a nice themed indoor one? OR a Pantheon clone? A Raptor-track? (I would love ot try one of those!). I'd be happy with anything! Just DON'T remove Kumba! Create a new major pathway in the park near it, and this can solve Kumba's low ridership. I guarantee it.

    I think they will keep Kumba, but will build the new ride by Kumba. By putting in a world class attraction in that area in the park, it would take some of the pressure of the other areas and maybe bring some more ridership to Kumba as well. It will also spread out the crowds around the park more as it is in a back corner area. I also think it will be made by Intamin, or by B&M, as they may just skip the Hyper coaster route and go to a Giga coaster as they have Mako not too far away and Iron Gwazi is a hyper as well.

    So for the whole state of Florida there is a 200ft height limit for anything that is not a building or radio tower. The law guides over free standing structures. This is why Falcons Fury can be built, but any coaster hits red tape when you start to hit that 200ft mark. There are loopholes and workarounds, which is why Iron Gwazi is just over 200ft. The park also gets MAJOR push back from the community anytime they try to build anything big because of the added noise. If they were going to challenge the law in this state, they would do it for a Giga knowing they could settle for a Hyper.

    Busch Gardens Tampa seems to be an enthusiast park. A solid lineup with another great solid almost all B&M Lineup only an hour away at SWO. Rumors are swirling we will get a Giga by 2025 so in my opinion as nice as a Mack Hyper would be, I suggest an Intamin Giga. Maybe not an I-305 clone but something to top Fury's height record and maybe if steel gets cheap enough try to beat SD2K length record. They will not replace Kumba ridership may be lower but it is a classic that they have maintained for many years it is still ranked as one of the Top 50 year after year and a retrack and Floorless theater trains could do it wonders. You really could reinvent it by making it have some sort of Intamin style wing train too. People would be running to the park just for that. All of that might cost half as much as a new coaster. Kumba location is not ideal in the back of the park either so I suggest any Giga or Hyper be built over the retention pond in the back and interact with Kumba even if it is just the first drop. We could also do with a newer Intamin River Rapids retrofit and a newer Intamin Log Flume Coaster.

    I would love it if a hyper or giga opened there, but it would conflict with Mako. It's for this reason I think that SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment would want to go for another option. Sure, they both have a Premiere Rides launch, but those aren't their main attractions. Tigris was mostly to draw in more attendance to possibly help get the word out about Iron Gwazi as it was being built, and Ice Breaker is a gap filler, made to cover up weak points in SeaWorld's lineup (notably, the lack of a family coaster, Journey To Atlantis is more of a Dark Ride, and the lack of a launch coaster).

    The fact is that I don't see Kumba getting gutted out until it reaches the end of its service life.It is a B&M,which makes it extremely reliable and cheap to maintain,as well as a very secure expirience,on the other hand,Gwazi was a maintenance nightmare,this,adding to low ridership,eventualy led to its RMC conversion,but Kumba is a reliable ride with little to no maintenance needed,so I don't think BGG will remove it until it is at least 35 years old.

    BGT should build a Giga painted yellow and call it something that has to do with a Python after the first coaster they demolished which was a steel coaster built by arrow. Or they could just give it a new name. Either way a Giga is still a gap in the lineup. Would also be interesting if BGT added a giant Ferris wheel. There’s talks about what might replace Rhino Rally and the Phoenix ride.

    They wouldn’t remove kumba because that just put on a brand new sheet of paint and new paint means that coaster is staying, and also butch gardens has a lot of extra land to work with like the whole rhino rally section of the park could lead on to new expansion over there.

    i can't have kumba leave yet, why not add something more to the congo, morocco has iron gwazi and its recent so that's off the list, Stanleyville has Sheikra, Tigris, and Stanleyville falls so it can wait for a new attraction, the edge of africa has cheetah hunt and project jethro coming soon, Egypt has Montu and Cobra's Curse so it can wait a lil longer, The Congo either gets a new ride or revamps its Intamin Rapids ride, maybe they can add something to Pantopia. The Bird Gardens needs a major ride also so that could be an option.

    I don't like Kumba, so I really think that a Mack Hyper would be a good fit for that spot, but I think that a Giga would be even better. Another thing: how do you know Verbolten's price? I always try to look for some coaster prices around rcdb and wikipedia, but most of them aren't shown

  • @deldavis5457
    @deldavis5457 4 года назад +1

    Lord no! Kumba is a great ride and my personal favorite in the park. I think they should get rid of scorpion and revamp the entire Pantopia area in the middle of the park. In my opinion, it’s a weird and random area in the park. You got a flat ride that hasn’t been open in forever and sand serpent is a bore. Clear up that clutter and maybe take out a building or two and we have room for a coaster?!

    • @rdaws73
      @rdaws73 4 года назад

      As much as it pains me, I agree. Scorpion is still a solid beginner coaster, I'd like to see them move it. But the old Timbuktu "pantopia" area definitely needs to be redesigned or updated.

    I'd like to see a new Giga (intamin or b&m) themed after a Lion. It can be a tall hyper too... They just have to set up burocracy for the height limit.
    After that I think they should invest in something new like an rmc raptor to replace Scorpion.
    I think Kumba is still a solid coaster, a staple of the park and still offers a very enjoyable ride. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Lol

    Ok, having bush gardens tampa, and sea world orlando as my home parks I've ridden all of the rides. I will say that gwazi was unbearably rough which caused its low ridership for anyone who has never been on gwazi. Also I think a B&M wing coaster is possible because it doesnt take up the massive space that a ride like ride of steel. Also if you give enough time, knowing that sea world is willing to invest a lot of money, I think there may just be a chance that a trex comes to the park. Although it's kinda unlikely. But that's just my opinion

    BGT needs an elaborate dark ride
    BGT needs a modern water ride to replace log flume or congo rapids
    I would rather see Montu go before Kumba. Montu is in front of the park and still, always a walk on. I think kumba should get a complete makeover, new paint colors and new trains and special effects. For a new coaster, something like time traveler. That would be my choice.

    Mack doesn't really have a large number of hypers. It's a reasonable choice but if you're going to include them then you may as well include Gerstlauer. Honestly, a Gerstlauer Infinity hypercoaster in the US (especially if it was at a Busch Gardens park where they might actually take some theming cues from Hansa Park) would be fantastic.

    Building a hyper would be near pointless with Mako 1 hour away. If they want to become the theme park capital of the US (notice I said THEME not coaster) they need to build a giga over the Safari plain part of the park. Yes 300 feet is way over the limit but I'm sure Tampa would consider allowing it as having another record breaking coaster built would bring in a LOT of money and attention to the city of Tampa.

    Well I mean you can make the same argument for Montu, when I went to Busch gardens Tampa 3 days this past summer like you said Cheetah Hunt and Sheikra both got up to 1 hr and half waits Montu and Kumba were both basically walk ons all day. The thing to consider is Montu and Kumba are both intense thrilling coasters and those kinds of rides don’t appeal to the general public. Cheetah hunt, Cobras curse, and sheikra are crowd pleasers for the general public. Having low ridership doesn’t mean it don’t have a fan base it just means that their intensity don’t appeal to the general audience. I didn’t go on a weekend and BGT is not my home park so I don’t know how long their lines get on Saturdays and Sundays. However, I assume all their lines are somewhat crowded on weekends but likewise I don’t know because I don’t go to Busch gardens Tampa frequently. The other thing is Kumba is not bad for maintenance B&ms can go forever they don’t need extreme maintenance like intamins, Vekomas, and Arrows all need. I do agree something is going to have to occur to build their next coaster but I wouldn’t put Kumba directly on the chopping block because of age. It still runs very smooth, it’s my personal favorite coaster in the park, and it’s an icon with the parks surroundings tons of people take photos of its double corkscrew.
