Will Busch Gardens Tampa get a B&M Giga?

- For the longest time, Busch Gardens Tampa has always been talked about to get some sort of Giga coaster. Just a few months back, plans for a possible 2021 addition up in Williamsburg leaked, coming with the unofficial name Drachen Spire. Drachen Spire is still NOT confirmed so take it with a grain of salt. BUT I bring up Drachen Spire, because usually when one of the Busch Gardens parks gets something, the other one does too. Usually, it's Tampa that tests out the ride first, but in this case, it might be flip-flopped. For example, BGT got Python, then BGW got Loch Ness Monster. BGT gets Kumba, then BGW gets Drachen Fire. BGT gets Montu and SheiKra, then BGW gets Alpengiest and Griffon. We have also seen it flipped like, Verbolten to Cheetah Hunt, and Tempesto to Tigris. Because these parks are so closely related, it helps us predict what might be in store for the future. In this case, we have a Giga Drachen Spire at BGW and nothing at BGT. So today, we dive right into what BGT might get as a mirror to Drachen Spire. How plans released by the park could hint towards this addition, and in turn Coaster Theory fashion, how Mako ties into all of it. Anyways, this is where the theory comes into play. Going back to what we were saying earlier about BGT and BGW having the same style or model of coaster… There is a big one that Williamsburg has that Tampa doesn't. A B&M hyper. After all those years since Apollo's Chariot was built, Tampa finally decided that they wanted to build one for themselves. This coaster would be in an L shaped layout and would max out at the 200ft height limit. This coaster was designed for a 2016 release, but instead of choosing a B&M hyper, they chose a Mack family coaster. The hyper would make its way to SeaWorld Orlando and get named Mako. This also explains why Williamsburg doesn't have anything like Cobra's Curse because Tampa wasn't supposed to get Cobra's Curse, they were supposed to get Mako. So why didn't they get it, what made the park change its mind? It would have been a great investment, Apollos is one of the most popular coasters at BGW. I believe it's because BGT said, maybe instead of getting a Hyper we can get a Giga by the same manufacturer. Maybe it would have been too soon to add Mako, and then five or so years later add a Giga which is pretty much just a bigger version. There's also a second theory that Mako was originally designed as a Giga for BGT, but once SeaWorld changed their mind, they toned it down a little bit to have it fit better at SeaWorld Orlando. Or SeaWorld is lying to us the whole time and Mako really is a Giga.

I love that even though both these parks get similar additions, they’re usually never clones, which shows they care about making their parks unique from each other, unlike Six Flags.
First Tigris, then Iron Gwazi, now talk of a Giga coming soon! I’m really hyped for the new and future developments of my home park.
The future of BGT is looking great! Maybe we'll see something like a Raptor or Gerstlaur Infinity too.
My real hope is that they can find a way to add a high speed wiping raptor where Scorpion stands today. I know it’s kinda small but I feel like they could configure the space in a way that could be perfect for such a ride. But that might just be me being a big RMC fan.

I recently learned that besides the Disney and Universal parks, in Busch Gardens Tampa gets the second most attendance out of any park in the United States, only behind SeaWorld Orlando, so I guess it could be possible. If iron gwazi does really good, then it has a much greater chance of happening.

To make it more appealing for the state to approve a giga for the park, maybe they could make the height around 280 or 290, then dig a trench 50-60ish feet deep to make a drop that could break Fury's record of tallest chain lift drop. That's of course if they want to beat it. If they just simply want to have a 300ft drop or something slightly bigger, they could just not dig quite as deep, or even make the lift shorter and still dig 50ft or so to achieve giga status??? I believe digging for a bigger drop could save money for SeaWorld too. We know these gigas are super expensive rides. That's likely a big reason why Orion is even shorter than Leviathan. I believe if they keep it shorter and make up for it with the drop, that could decrease the cost significantly.
The water table in Florida is extremely high. They can't dig more than 10 feet without encountering water.

BGT is my home park, I'm still waiting to ride Iron Gwazi when the park opens but if they are getting a giga next, it's safe to say that BGT is the King of theme parks for Florida & Universal has to step it up!!!!
KingTonio universal is more well themed family rides while BGT focuses more on thrill rides

It would be great for BGT to get an airtime focused GCI. They need a woodie since they altered Gwazi, and they need another airtime machine because the only other one is Iron Gwazi which hasn’t even opened yet. Also, it makes sense considering that BGW has InvadR.

GCI usually doesn’t focus on airtime except for mystic timbers and prowler. If you wanna get airtime filled woddie Gravity Group is the right manufacturer to go with, since they build Voyage, Hades, Revine Flyer 2 etc.

2. "Project Madrid" is was canceled and split into two projects, Pantheon and 2021. Originally supposed to be one large coaster that crossed the river into a tophat.

Maybe bgt were planning a hyper right before all the controversy around SeaWorld started. At this point they didn’t know what would happen in terms of the company and they didn’t know weather they would have to sell the SeaWorld parks to survive. So they decided to have 2 options: if they sold the SeaWorld parks build the hyper at bgt like planned in order to rebuild the company or wait until the controversy had blown over and they are in a better financial position, build a new coaster at their most affected park to start redefining their image. They would then end up building mako in 2016.

One of the major problems with them putting a Giga over in the Rhino Rally plot (and consequently in at least part of the Safari plot, because the Rhino Rally plot is nowhere near big enough to fit a Giga) is the noise factor. They cannot put a ride that loud near the animals unless they have some revolutionary scheme for mitigating the sound. If you look at Montu and Cheetah Hunt, which are near the animals, most of the elements that are closest to the animals are either low to the ground (below the treeline) or in trenches. Part of the reasoning for that design is to reduce the noise level near the animals. If they are going to put a Giga anywhere, it'll be an L Shape in the Northwest Corner of the park, replacing most of the Tidal Wave plot, and probably replacing the retention ponds as well.
As a result, if they are building out the Rhino Rally plot and plan to add some kind of Rollercoaster over there, I'd say there is an extremely low chance of it being a Giga.
This is a hugely underrated channel.

IF BGT was able to pull off a quality giga, they may be able to give Cedar Point a run for their money in terms of coasters. They seem to add more coasters at a quicker rate and have a lot of land. It would be interesting.
Alan Trotter it would be tough as BGT does not have the history or reputation as cedar point does.

Great video and I believe we will see a giga for Busch Gardens Tampa eventually and it will probably be from B&M. I’d love to see a company like Mack Rides take a shot at a giga coaster but I doubt that would happen here, but one can dream right?

I think Mako was probably moved to Sea World because their attendance was down after Blackfish. The park needed a draw and they had the coaster planned.

As a person living in the Florida area for almost 20 years. That 200 ft limit is very true and yes even though it sucks I understand why they do it. However I think when doing Iron Gwazi they may have figured out a trick or 2. Perhaps they are thinking ways already to top Iron Gwazi 😏😏
What is the reasoning for the 200 foot rule?
The idea for a giga in Tampa would be perfect and if they do they need to just go for it and go for the record if they are gonna too 300ft. With Iron Gwazi ready this would really bring a lot more people to the area .
Dude, the Tampa bay area already has enough tourists. Try getting to Clearwater or st Pete beach any day of the week. I was just in Clearwater a few hours ago and the traffic is nuts.

I dig your theories and as a central Florida resident, my mind would be blown if a park 90 minutes away had a RMC hybrid and B&M giga. However, I can't see this happening any time soon. Maybe just because it would be too good to be true. I think the biggest issue right now is going to be financing for Sea World Entertainment. With everything that is going on in the world, they seem to be at the most risk out of any of the theme park chains. I think the breaks are going to be pulled hard on all of their upcoming investments.
I hope I'm wrong. I was wrong about RMC eventually coming in and doing their thing with Gwazi.
Will you be able to do a theory on if BGW will get a RMC Hybrid or raptor to rival Iron Gwazi for (Coaster Theory).
Would love to see 1 high over bank element like Orion, one low to the ground high speed airtime moment, 2 strong pops of ejector, and a similar turn around to Hyperion, all strategically placed throughout a plethora of floater moments to maintain pacing.

I would say budget more than restrictions would keep it to 300’ vs 330’. Closer would be easier but if Tampa will let them break it by 100’ in the hopes that it would bring in more tourism, what’s another 30’ to claim a world record that would likely garner even more attention and potentially draw more people. That said I hope they do add a giga, or at least a hyper, as this would round out their collection quite nicely as they don’t really have a good airtime machine there right now. Great coasters but focused more on force, speed, or inversion. A standard giga or hyper could give them a good airtime machine with sustained floater or ejector air.
What do you think sixflags Magic mountain is getting in 2021-2023?
Personally, i think the giga would be a better fit over by Kumba, they have those ponds behind there and there is plenty of room

If you had to visit three parks for an east coast road trip where would you visit?
IF the Intimin Shuttle Giga never happens at BGW and they announce they are getting a B&M giga to rival Fury 325 and Intimidator 305 right next door will be insane at least and it will put BGW right on the map with BGT, CP, MM, and Energylandia.
I'm glad that my school (SJSU or San Jose State University) got a cameo in this video.
As a local, I do not feel there is enough room in that area for a giga. My prediction, if BGT gets a giga, is a 2025 addition in a remodeled jungala. most of jungala, including the two rides, is closed for most, if not all of the year. It is a dead spot between Pantopia and stanleyville. If they park remodels this section, they can run a giga north along the property's west boundary, with a turn to the east along the retention pond on the north side of the property. The biggest hurdle at that point, other than the height restriction, would be keeping the noise down in the surrounding neighborhoods. The park has already had an issue with this with Falcon's Fury, so they may be hesitant to build that close to the edge of the property.
I don't mean to be that person but... I went through the laws for Florida at leg.state.fl.us and I don't see any mention of a statewide restriction on amusement ride or roller coaster height. Each city or municipal district can enforce height restrictions like Orlando, etc. However Disney typically avoids 200 feet because they'd have to put an aircraft warning light on top.
One of the problems with Tampa is though is that we have an international airport a few miles away from Busch.

I'll take a B&M giga at BGW over that intimin launch. Use that ravine to build up the worlds tallest with a drop almost 400ft! Wishful thinking but that's what I'm hoping for.

Agreed......I think it had more to do with crossing the Rhine River. There's so many restrictions with building in wetlands and that part of the river is much wider than where Loch Ness, Alpengeist and Griffon cross. That's more my theory. I wish they would've went with the Project Madrid instead of that Shuttle Spire crap that leaked
I believe one of the SeaWorld Entertainment parks should get a wing coaster personally and I bet there's a better chance of one of those coming to Busch Gardens Tampa rather than a giga coaster. However if they were to build one of those, I suppose they could find room by building it around the edge of the Serengeti Plane rather than have it go through it.
There's been a rumor that the next SeaWorld Orlando coaster will be a wing.
BGT needs a hyper/giga coaster. If they get this I'd argue that they'd have one of the best coaster collections in the world
In my opinion, they don't necessarily need a tall ride if they can build one that is an Airtime machine with lap bars.

Hey, I live in Tampa in Ybor ( Historic Latin Area) BGT seriously needs a GIGA. I would like to see a GIGA with inversions. What would also be great is a 200+ ft wing coaster with 7 inversions. I am all about inversions. Kumba and Montu have 7 inversions. Up and down is just boring to me. I was actually hoping BGT was tearing down GWAZI completely and putting in a massive wing coaster, however I am excited to ride Iron Gwazi. It needs more inversions tho.
Honestly I don’t think they’re getting a new coaster until both BGW and BGT get a pair, drachen fier was supposed to be kumbas pair but it was trash, and having drachen spire being the replacement, i feel as if this is just the replacement of that pair.

I know a lot of people are gonna want a Giga coaster in Florida seeing how the closet one to them is Fury 325 at Carowinds. Hopefully, BGT will be the park in Florida that gets it.
earlier this year I had a conversation with a supervisor at Falcons Fury, and he said the next coaster after Iron Gwazi would be a launch coaster going from the front of the park near Cheetah Hunt to the back. he didn’t say the height or any thing else, so maybe a launched giga?
Employees don't know anything about what's coming in the future. Not even the supervisors. The only people that would have an idea about what's coming in the future are the higher ups (park management and corporate) and they won't risk their jobs by telling people something. Remember that those who speak don't know and those who know don't speak.
They should build one dig underground to add more height if they have too it would be a great addition to the park.
