Coaster Theory: Kings Dominion Should FEAR Pantheon!

- Since we uncovered the truth behind Drachen Spire through leaked documents showing the layout and the desired mystery attraction, it's time we take one step further.
Last week we solved the riddle of Pantheons Missing Half with one answer that's been staring us in the eyes the whole time, Drachen Spire. It all makes sense; the proposed land and original blueprints all match with the rumors circulating about the BGW Giga Coaster that is still?... supposedly happening. I mean, if you were to mush the two together, you would have everything the proposal mentioned. A Giga to match Competition, Stationed in Oktoberfest, Crosses the Rhine River to Fiesta, and Unique Features.
So Zach, if Giga Pantheon is what SeaWorld wanted… then why didn’t they get it? To me, the answer is simple, there was probably some sort of issue with building over the water. That's one of the major features this coaster was going to have, that we don't see on the Pantheon or Drachen renditions… which makes me think. Perhaps SeaWorld had int main… who I would guess to build this monstrosity and also was the builder of Pantheon… split this coaster up into two separate concepts. One that would be more like the original plans, and the other would be far different, but incorporate unique features against the competition. In this case, I305 is the competition in question. Would SeaWorld go for a direct stab at Kings Dominion which is something they’ve never done before, or will they do something completely unique that's nowhere close to a Giga BUT would catch eyes. As we all know they chose the Fiesta Italia concept and named it Pantheon, which was BY FAR the better choice and I'll get to that in a minute, but… what happened to the 355ft Drachen Spire concept?
Even though I believe this document is 110% legit, there’s a part of the equation that doesn't match up. I hate to break it to you, but Drachen Spire is NOT happening, and NO, I don't mean it's not happening because of the 2019 virus; I mean, it was NEVER happening at all. If what I've said so far is true, SeaWorld picked Pantheon and left Drachen Spire in the dust, dead alongside its predecessor. We can back this up by the fact they’re both shuttle coasters. It's almost like Intamin designed two different options and had SeaWorld pick, knowing only one would remain champ.

Pantheon looks better to me. Was flying through the testing vid I saw while veloci looks slow.
Loving the series so far! I never thought of how the timing of Volcano’s demise might actually be helpful for BGW and Pantheon’s opening until you mentioned it.
I could see a good amount of past KD Season Passholders and frequent visitors choosing to go to BGW more frequently instead due to both those events happening.

even pantheon was suppose to touch the water but the plans were changed intamin acknowledged this during the media day announcement.

The original 355ft height permit was recently renewed by Busch Gardens this month. I still believe they have an intention to take the height record from KD but not with Drachen Spire

Alright hear me out. Kings dominion gets rid of anaconda and the intamin mega goes over the pathway over the lake into a spaghetti bowl mid layout and then returns to the volcano plot.

Kings Dominion needs a 4d coaster like X2, that would give them the best set of 3 coasters at any park with that 4d coaster, twisted timbers and I305

Awesome video, love the new series. It keeps building up to the next episode. I 100% agree with you. It makes no sense to build two shuttle coasters back to back. Especially after Tempesto! Been subbed for awhile! Sub for life!
Part 2!! So good. The only thing is that Busch Gardens wouldn’t build an intamin hyper because, like you said, it would be similar and able to rival both pantheon and Apollo’s chariot, meaning it is kinda redundant at Busch gardens. But I pray that cedar fair will start working with intamin again.

Just subscribed a few days ago. Volcano was INCREDIBLE from what I remember, I only got to ride it once in the summer of 1999 after I graduated high school (New York City here so don't get down there that often). I wish I could have had a second ride over multiple trips, but it was always down. Keep up the great work, I love the art of a great coaster.

If BGW or BGT could get an Intamin that combines Kondaa, Taron and Velocicoaster all in one I think that they would have a hell of a beast on their hands and nobody would be able to touch it. Throw in Giga height and maybe the length record and now all of a sudden you have something not many other companies would even want to touch price wise. Sometimes you just have to outspend the competition to silence the competition.
If that happens hopefully it goes to BGW my home park

I will say this, the coaster that I think BGW should get next is a Giga coaster, but a traditional Intamin shuttle Giga, ala Red Force at Ferrari Land. 355’, 100-110 mph, 3,500’ in length. The tallest and fastest coaster in the South. Third tallest and fastest coaster in the US; the second tallest and fastest coaster in the eastern seaboard, the Tallest and fastest coaster in the south, and the state of VA. Beats I305 and Furry 325 and bites at the heels Kingda Ka. Also, make BGW the home of launch coasters. I rest my case.
Do you think Vekoma or Mack have a chance of entering the American market with their next gen hypers? I look at Abyssus and drool and everyone says DC Rivals HyperCoaster is an amazing ride.
I think a Mack Hyper would be a perfect fit at King's Dominion, as would a bermuda blitz, or 2nd gen Vekoma launched coaster (particularly in Anaconda's spot).
I could also see a Gerstlauer working well - completely unique for the market.
An S&S pneumatic launch would also be a great answer to Pantheon specifically - since it could offer some similar elements with a far more intense launch. And the park's history of the once "launched coaster capital" would definitely make that a great fit.

Kings Dominion would not add an Intamin Hyper because it would just look like a smaller I305 to the average person.

There is one piece of possible misinformation in here. The "Drachen Spire" is not dead. The 355 height waiver for that coaster was just renewed by James City County with the contract stating that construction must start by September 2022. So "Drachen Spire" is essentially delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

as long as Pantheon and the other SeaWrold coaster are "anticipated" Kings Dominion doesn't have to worry about a thing. Busch Gardens hasn't said a thing about Pantheon since mid January of their social media pages.

Pantheon is cool but it doesn't beat every attraction at KD. KD still has I-305 and not to mention all the crazy Twisted Timbers fans. Twisted Timbers happens to ab an amazing night ride experience. Not sure how, but something about the old orchard theme and being near the woods plays well at night times.

Also I think one of the most interesting things about project Madrid were those sharp turns (possibly top hats or drops) that lead into a figure 8. A fan recreation made it look like it could’ve been like the figure 8 on Cheeta Hunt but 355ft tall, this could’ve even inspired the one on cheetah hunt
If I was Kings Dominion I would replace volcano with the vekoma firestorm model and do a Morgan hyper gtx refurbishment of Anaconda.

I feel both parks offer such a different type of experience, both will end up being okay. BGW is one of the top themed parks in the US and has a good to great coaster selection among other things. Kings Dominion has one of the top 1-2 punches in the country along with a good to great support cast. Pantheon will definitely draw crowds and interests just as any new coaster will do, but Cedar Fair isn't going to let King's Dominion set idle for too long.

I don't see Cedar Fair starting any new projects with Intamin in the near future. It could happen if/when/where Intamin is able to offer something that the other suppliers simply cannot match but until Cedar Fair decides to build a wooden hyper (prefab) or a 300+ft launched coaster (again), I think they'll probably stick to their current supplier base.
That said, there's still a perfect answer for King's Dominion: Mack Hyper. First of it's kind in the western hemisphere.
Or, if they want to play to their own history a bit more, and keep building the relationship with S&S: pneumatic launch coaster.
Due to their competition and situation with ride removals (it's pretty universally expected that Anaconda will also be getting the chopping block) I expect King's Dominion will get 2 major investments between now and 2026 or so - so why not both in the next 5 years? :D

There’s a slight issue here most of va’s population lives in the north so atleast a 2 hour drive with the lowest for KD being a hour soooooooooooo yeah

But, if the giga was never supposed to happen why did BGW file the blueprints and pursue the 355ft height waiver after Pantheon had already been announced? Rumor has it that the giga is being rethought since covid hit anyway so I guess we’ll never really know!

The reason Pantheon isn't a giga is because shuttle gigas aren't as marketable as real gigas. So Pantheon is 180ft. And the 355ft coaster is coming in 2025 for bgw's 50th anniversary.

Thing is kinds dominion needs something inverted (or different from sit down) and something that has a decent theme, volcano was awesome cause of the actual volcano. Themeimg and the experience is what will win and so far patheon is lacking so kings dominion could top them if they play their cards right. I remember as a kid I was mad I couldn’t ride volcano cause it looked so fun, scary and just awesome to look at legit fire coming out the volcano as the rollercoaster pops out the top!!! their is so many kids shows that featured characters riding a fake rollercoaster coming out of volcanos like drake and josh and spongebob cause of how iconic volcano was. They need the next ride to be re-rideable, shocking, fun! and iconic!! Otherwise it’s just another coaster.

@@lukez6203 I mean...there is a clear difference between lets say I305 and Fury down in Carowinds. I305 seems to have more twists n turns where as Fury has a few more drops and more sweeping turns. I would prefer a B&M back there as opposed to that launched spire mess that's rumored. Throw the whole thing away!
