    I have finally achieved a deep rich broth! Put my turkey in my roaster with onions, celery, carrots ( all scraps from the freezer) salt and pepper and let it do it's thing for 18 or so. . My goodness. I absolutely love my roaster! I now have 5 qrts and 6 pints of bone broth. So thankful 🙏🙏🙏♥️

    Try putting a couple cups of water in the roaster(under the bag) to keep the bags from melting💙

      & I still laugh hysterically when I make broth- the first time my son saw what was in the pot he about lost his mind, he was afraid to eat anything mixed😳He's grown now & makes his own🤣

    Hi LeAnn! Yes, that’s economically the best way, at least I think it is too. I just did 5 whole chickens that way and pressure canned the broth. I’ve never used a liner in my big Nesco roaster, wish I could tell you how to remedy your problem. I used to save my chicken fat and make suet cakes for the birds, they love it in the winter. I make suet cakes for my chickens when I had them, but used a different fat.

      I’m so ready to order a new insert for my oven but they are on back order from the manufacturer of course. I don’t want burnt plastic in my oven especially since it’s where I bake my cheesecake.

      @@MennoniteFarmhouse Remember plastic is made from petroleum. Plastics that are heated leach carcinogenic chemicals to our food. It is convenient for cold storage. I wouldn't recommend plastic containers or saran wrap even in a microwave no matter how convenient. We only reheat in glass.

    Getting diligent about labeling has been great this last year. My newer food saver has a wet food setting that seems to work well. Maybe when you need to upgrade you can look for that feature.

    I use my chicken smaltz to fry chicken livers, potatoes, anything you want to give that good ole chicken flavor to! I also bake my bones at 300 degrees for several hours, and then run them through the blender to make bone meal for my garden. I try to waste nothing! What a deal you got on the chicken!!

    Such a wonderful video. So many folks don't realize inflation doesn't have to limit great meals at home when you cook from scratch like this. I have used drumsticks and leg quarters like this to feed my family. And that broth! It is the best for cold and flu season. Thanks for sharing!!!

      It was like a four day process now I’m working on canning 120 lbs of chicken breasts… and last week I did 14 quarts of pumpkin and 7 quarts of turkey stock! I’m getting ready for bake sale this weekend lol 😂

      I just did turkey stock too, it was too simple. I put my bones in the instant pot with my dehydrated onions, carrots and celery then add water and cook it for an hour.

    The instructions on the back of my roaster liner box say to set the roaster below 350 degrees. Add 1 - 2 cups of water to the removable insert pan. Dress pan with liner so that the liner floats on top of water. Skirt liner over sides of roaster being careful not to tuck liner inside heat well. This usually works for me but sometimes I think the problem with broth making is the long length of time it takes to cook. Hope this helps. Also, the chicken fat is called schmaltz and is good for frying foods, Thanks for your video. Making broth and canning it is on my December to do list.

      I get it in bulk at the Mennonite bulk food store maybe 50 minutes from my house. I really got 80lbs for $36 but I sold 20lbs to my Mothernlaw for $9. Yes, with food prices are unsettling we need to get when we can afford it and watch for sales! I will turning this into many different kinds of meals. I hope my husband doesn’t get bored with having all this chicken on hand.

    What a smart project, LeAnne. I don't use the plastic liners, I just have a thing against cooking in plastic but I have seen on Amazon that you can purchase foil liners for those electric roaster ovens. Kind of spendy though. Such a shame you don't keep the fat, it adds amazing flavor to homemade noodles and dumplings. Your stock came out beautiful!     My Pansaver roaster liners says to add 2 cups of water to the roaster before adding the bag and don’t go over 350 degrees. To remove any stuck on bags it says to fill roaster and add dish soap and heat on 300 degrees for a few hours. Your chicken broth looks delicious.

    I always maintain that I have asbestos fingers from all the years of cooking for my family, lol! I don't tend to feel heat the way other family members do. I can wash in pretty hot water too. You put in so much effort, but I know it is well worth it. Thank you for such an informative video, because you sure are right about grocery prices being so much higher, it is a fact of life, so any way I can find to cut costs I'm all in! 🍗🐔

      Yes, stock is made from bones, while broth is made mostly from meat or vegetables. Using bones in stock creates a thicker liquid. Stock contains more calories.

      Keep an eye out for them, I preordered mine though a Mennonite bulk store sale. They have enough orders to fill two tractor trailers worth every two weeks this time of year. Chicken always seems to be cheaper this time of year for some reason but not the last two years. It’s been two years since I have done this project.

    The onion skins add color to the stock. Do the bags maybe need to be gathered at top, not draped over side of roaster? I like to pressure can some chicken. So easy to use when ready cause canning cooks it so ready to go. Keeps my freezer clearer. Great ideas! Nothing better than home made stock.

      Sarah I bought my food saver at Best Buy. It retailed for over $300 when I bought it and with coupons and coupon apps and sales I got it for $113!! The chicken was a preorder sale at a Mennonite bulk food store. Thank you!

    I think the roaster bags are finicky. You should put a tablespoon of flour inside the empty bag and shake it good. Then put it in the oven where the bag cannot touch the sides of the oven. Everytime I do this, the bags work great. You are an inspiration teaching everyone how to stretch the food budget. Keep up the great videos.

    Hi LeAnn! I do my bulk chicken in a similar way. :) I can my chicken in pints instead of freezing. I use Better than Bouillon broth for my canned chicken and then can the chicken bone broth. I have never put turmeric in mine, I’ll add some my next batch. I do put ginger in my bone broth it’s good for helping with colds and flu. Just last week I opened the last jar when my husband and kids were sick. It’s time for me to do another batch. I can put 40 pound of quarters in my roaster. I gave up on liners.     How I clean up my chicken fat is to put it into a saucepan with water (about 2x water to 1x fat) and bring it to a boil, turn down heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Cool to put in fridge overnight (or until fat is as solid as possible) and remove clean fat off top of water, dump water and impurities to the chickens. Great for cooking and baking!     I try to catch a few bags when leg quarters are on sale like .25/lb I do this same thing but can the chicken in quarts. My mom has even chipped in on the cost for me to have her some homemade broth as it's so nutrient dense.

    I don't use the roaster bags, my roaster gets hot on the outside too and it is hard to wash afterwards. I just made turkey stock in my roaster using the turkey carcass and kitchen vegetable scraps. Onion peels make a beautiful broth. I got 10 quarts of beautiful stock....for practically nothing but the cost of electricity.

    Hi LeAnn! I have grown celery from the bottom of the stalk. It can be finicky. Set in a shallow container with just a little water around the very bottom. Change this water daily. Soon you should see little white roots , also should be regrouping out the top. You then can transfer to a pot of dirt. I just barely set the stalk into dirt. It will need sun or a light to grow. Or if it's warm, can be set out in the garden. I grew 2 this year in the garden, and just cut pieces off as needed. I also dug up an repotted to bring in for the winter. So far they are doing good!. This could be a real money saver over time.

    I had the same problem with my food saver. I found though if I freeze my food on a cookie sheet first and put it in a food saver bag frozen I don't have any issues

    Great video! You can take that chicken fat you skimmed off and put it in a jar in the fridge. Use it to fry potatoes or when sauteing vegetables for recipes. Add a little to green beans or mashed potatoes in place of butter. There are videos of how to make it. They call it shmaltz.

    I fill the freezer bags then freeze overnight, vacuum sealing the next day. Got tired of the juices siphoning even on the moist setting. Do the same with corn and shredded zucchini.

    I don't think the clear ones are made for the roaster ovens....only crock pots...there is some liners for the roaster ovens that looks like foil they make for them....hope that helps

      Others are telling me they don’t go above 350F and I need two cups of water under it. The box that they came doesn’t have instructions at all.

      I can breast meat but I don’t can drumsticks meat because it’s cooked the whole through already and it would be hard to debone if it wasn’t. I pick and choose how much work I wanna do!

I only canned raw chicken breast for the past 11 yrs until yesterday I canned up the hot pack and what a difference its more work but from watching other youtube people they showed how you can bread n fry them fir chicken nuggets.. do you raw or hot pack ur chicken breast?

      @@Fritz0616 It didn’t bother me at all. I love hot packing. I get more in the jar and save space, time and lids. I prefer the taste of it baked before canning over raw pack and boiling it!

    My tip for using the roaster bags is not to. Been cooking for cowboys for 30 years and using a roaster. Never used one successfully b
