  • If you were there that day, would you have tried to stop this before it became a mass shooting? This is the kind of mass shooting attempt that doesn’t get into the statistics because it doesn’t meet the threshold for killing, but it nevertheless is sad and tragic. Joseph Wilcox should be remembered as a brave man, and we must learn Active Self Protection lessons from his death to redeem his murder.
Original video of the mass shooting with details of the investigation and more available here: get-asp.com/hrit
What can CCW holders learn from this mass shooting attempt?
    1. Spiritual fitness is an important part of Active Self Protection. You don’t often get any advance notice of the last day of your life, but we see over and over that self-defense isn’t a guarantee of winning every fight you might be placed in. You want to be at peace with God and your loved ones, because you’ll need that peace on the day that you meet Him. Since you can’t guarantee advanced notice, make peace today! Joseph Wilcox didn’t wake up this morning thinking he was going to try to stop a mass shooting and die, so learn the lesson from his death and be at peace today.
There are five MORE lessons (at least) from this mass shooting attempt on our website, so head there for more: get-asp.com/hrit
    Attitude. Skills. Plan.

He definitely did the right thing, and is a hero. Like for real. Because if he hadn’t did what he did, it’s an absolute guarantee, a ton more would have perished. He literally sacrificed himself, so that others may live. He did what was right. I’m not just saying that, either. It’s the truth. His actions are what all peoples should be. To protect one another. & It’s amazing so many don’t understand that. Blessings to your family ❤️

Now in an elementary school or loved ones or obviously yourself ya have to accept your fate and do whatever ya can until you're successful or shot to death but it's not your obligation at all to run after a shooter.

Both had posted on social media before this happened. They did indeed kill two police officers just before they entered the Wal Mart but at that point their intention was likely to commit "suicide by cop". @@CamelSmokes23 Firing a warning shot at the ceiling while yelling "everyone get out!" is pretty clear to me. Also, an active shooter whose intention is mass casualties isn't going to walk to the back of the store. If someone enters a store yelling for everyone to "get out" and only fires a single warning shot at the ceiling it is pretty plainly obvious exactly what level of threat that is. The way the man casually walks to the back of the store and NOT rapidly firing at the fleeing shoppers shows that this was not an "active shooter" type incident. Mass shootings are always quick mag-dumps in rapid succession. A mass shooter wants many MANY victims. This dude walked past dozens of targets. I wish Wilcox had made the correct assessment and just simply exited like all the many dozens of people who weren't shot at.

Yes, really. I’m not nearly as liberal with my usage of the word “hero” as most people are. And, you’re right; I absolutely would’ve run AWAY from the direction of the gunfire, not towards it. That’s just common sense. As I said, what he attempted to do was courageous at best. But, heroic? I’m not prepared to go there. Perhaps if he’d shepherded panicked shoppers towards the exists rather than acting out the typical gun owner fantasy of taking out a bad guy, I’d give the guy his props. Roger Powell sr. It’s quite pitiful and shameful of you to say that. It really shows how weak of a mind you have, and how selfish you are. I mean you’re talking about how rapidly the cops would get there? That’s a pretty foolish thing to say given that in a Walmart full of shoppers, just 30 people could be shot and killed in under a minute, before the cops would even show up. And you say it was a dumb move, but that’s completely false. It’s completely false because the only mistake he made was not assuming there was another person with a gun working with the person he was going to kill. And that doesn’t make his move a dumb move, I mean that could’ve happened to anybody. You really think most people would just assume that a lady very far away from a gunman not seeming to be causing any trouble at all is working together with that gunman? No, most people wouldn’t. This guy did something very brave, and very honorable, and unfortunately there are more cowards like you then warriors like him. I mean with your logic, you’re practically saying having a Military is a dumb move. It’s not just about Family and yourself. Human lives in general matter, not just the ones you know. Keep that in mind, and try not to say stupid things like what you said here anymore. Also, when someone is dead for trying to do something good, the least you could do is honor that, and not insult them for dying. It’s not like he was the bad guy here.

Were all in this together... he did the right thing and he should receive the highest award of a civilian and his family should be compensated...

Agreed. We should hold citizens who respond this way up as heroes. Same thing with the high school kid in Colorado who died stopping the shooter there.

What a hero. Terrible to know he died in such a way. His name should be remembered in his area

What a fluke. How remote were the odds that a woman with a shopping basket was secretly covering the active shooter. I would bet very few could have seen that coming or could even possibly have that on their radar, more so when you are singularly focused on the known bad guy. MUCH RESPECT. Evil just won that day.

Tell me how dumb was it to go look for a guman and not know where he is?? He could've popped up around an isle on him also

Well, if he had been better at reading his environment and noticed literally everyone else besides that ONE woman running away from the shooter, he'd still be alive. He wanted to be John McClain and ended up not only dead but not having done anything to help the situation.

Ya, you know there shoulda been a red flag saying WHY is this woman ignoring the guy in front of her shooting a gun?

She did that on purpose. The fact she was following would have possibly given me pause, but I dunno.

Ya you usually think there's only one crazy person shooting. It's very rare to have two crazy people at the same time killing people.
