- With strong sales and an even stronger name recognition, the 2017 Discovery is back in America after a 13 year absence. Although the model carried on as the LR3 and LR4 over those years, for the all-new 5th generation, Land Rover gives one of its most popular models the extensive overhaul it needed and the result is one of the best large family SUVs in the segment and a thoroughly modern interpretation of such an iconic model. It's a must drive if you're shopping for a vehicle large enough to carry your family across town or across the country in luxury and style.

Am I the only one that actually likes the rear ? Absolutely beautiful all around.
David Ferrer main reason why I like this car, it actually takes it from the fourth generation just curvy version.
I thought I was the only one. The rear gives the Discovery a very import/foreign look that’s unique compared to every other look a like SUV.
i was always looking at Evoques and RRS. But this actually looks awesome, even its smaller sister
I hate the squareness of the old land rovers so i appreciate this one’s look
Really? Just looks like a ford with a suit on
I don't think some people know that at one point, The Ford Motor Company actually purchased Land Rover and was able to "replicate" the Land Rover design and look, thus the Ford SUVs that looked like Land Rovers...
The Range Rover (full-size) is the British Ford Expedition, the Discovery the Ford Explorer, and the Freelander as the Escape and the Defender as the Bronco.
@@razvandobos9759 vice versa, I think most of the Land Rover models came before the fore models
They did the same with Aston Martin. Basically stole the front grill design. Now you see Fiestas driving around with Aston Martin grill. Ridiculous.
I test drove it, it's NOT a crappy explorer. There's a lot of storage , probably most in class. Storage behind screen, under cup holder, 2 compartment center console, 2 glove boxes, and storage in the rear side.
He also didn't press the "open" button which opens a hidden storage binnacle behind the AC controls
He also didn't slide the cup holders to reveal more storage
You're right; this grotesque POS has no right to be compared to an Explorer. It's guaranteed--not likely to, not might--guaranteed to break down constantly and expensively. It's a Barbie SUV, through and through.
@@frankburns8871 thank you for spreading this misinformation comrade, allowing these cars to depreciate to very affordable levels even though they've actually been reliable since the 2010s.
I love waking up to a chill Tuesday morning and watching another great review from you, Sofyan.
Keep up the good work man!
I've owned two Discos, loved both of em. Just gotta have a good warranty. The driver position and view out is second to none.
If you really want a perspective on how this car performs then you need to hitch a 2-animal horsebox to it, load it with 3 teenagers and all the accoutrements needed for eventing, drive it for 90 miles, spend a day at a competition then drive it back again. The outcome? Flawless. Easily the most competent and comfortable vehicle for the job it was designed for.
As soon as I found out Land Rover was releasing this to replace the LR4, I went to my local LR dealer and picked up an 16 Disco 4 HSE. Thank God I didn't miss the opportunity, owning the iconic boxy shape of an Land Rover SUV. :p
Storage actually isn’t limited, there’s storage behind the climate control, of you press it in, it opens up, under the cup holder there’s more storage, it’s centre console has a ridiculous amount and it has huge door bins, might just be in the uk, but just try and see if those bits of storage are there.
Fantastic review! You criticized against the very few impurities and praised the many greatly factors. Best review of this summer so far!!
Nice review, as always - the video clips of these things off-roading always make me smile, because (realistically) the only people who will do this are the folks making those videos! The rest of these vehicles will spend their time commuting in traffic, taking little ones to school or soccer or hockey games, fighting for parking spaces at the malls... :)
I like the design, very expensive looking to me.
This model is growing on me, glad to see the discovery name back to the US market but pretty disappointed it doesn't have much of the classic discovery design like all the previous models.
Love the styling, I have a 2002, this the best looking one since then, love the rear profile....
Now just to wait a couple of years and buy it used for half the price lol
razrv3lc affordable luxury lol
Looking at a 2019 now, pretty dang affordable
half price with twice the problems
Here I am 😂
There's a lot of uninformed negativity in many of these comments. Don't comment until you've experienced a Disco, no one really cares what you think unless you know what you're talking about.
Do you have a Disco? Do you like it?
Best review of just about anything I’ve ever watched - excellent job!!!
Great review and one of the best I've seen on RUclips, certainly better than Autogefuhl's lame review. I love your style, it was a really well structured review and gave us a great feel for how you felt about the car. Interestingly, your impression was much the same as mine when I test drove one for the first time.
I live in a place where the latest models of cars appear on our streets fast, I have seen several of these and I really like the design.
Does the dash speaker grill supposed to curl at the corners or is that sun damage?
i love range rover styling and its versatility, see myself definately owning one in about 5 years or more so
@ 7:13 is the dash peeling and warping ? looks like the speaker cover on the center dash
Great Review. This is the first Discovery that looks nice IMHO.
The front is beautiful! What happened to the back??? It's worse than the Pontiac Aztek!
Danny it does look like an Aztec I thought the same thing
Not gonna lie, I'm gonna miss the LR3 and LR4 model builds. They did need an update, but now the only boxy safari/adventure styled vehicles are the Wrangler and the G-wagon. One is meh, and the other one has a huge price tag. There's no middle option anymore.
Anyone know the music playing starting from the 00:20 ?
The rear tail lights look straight out of the new Porsche designs. Great review like always Sofyan. I REALLY appreciate you going back to normal POV camera angle reviews. It is like your original take on these reviews. Please avoid having someone film you even at press events! It just takes away from the experience. Keep working hard!! This channel has grown so much!
Great review, thanks!
Love the reviews
Mind sharing who makes those sunglasses? Love the look and complements the interior too.
It has the 90's Camry chime.
Land Rover did a beautiful job designing this car. I mean look at the interior, it’s very nice. So is the front grill, lights, and bumper. The side ends look very nice especially with this gray sort of color. But then, when I go to the rear, oopsie dasy
Looks like a Ford Explorer.
@@razvandobos9759 and the Durango in one
Loved the review.
There is an extra cubby space behind the air con unit it has a button that says open on it
why 2017 Discovery in Canada rear end has different round looking lights>?
I always liked the Discovery. Because over the years it was the least snobby of the bunch, I'm not so sure about this current model now though. Plus I hate the fact that Land Rover is now making all their cars look similar.
whoa, the gauge cluster looks like the ones on the Outlander too !!
How will this car fair on the reliable side🤔
Decided on this to tow my 7600lb trailer. Nicest SUV with a tow capacity over 8000 that you can buy. Few luxury Suv's these days can tow this much, QX80 yes, new navigator maybe, GLS is only 7700lbs. The design is growing on me but the range Rover is much better looking. Long warranty and free maintenance so I'm not worried about reliability that everyone commenting here is worried about, most of whom have not actually owned a JLR product....
The 2018s have the full LCD instrument panel. It is awesome, very much like Audi's Virtual Cockpit.
The Atlas looks like a Ford Explorer, this looks amazing!
Lots of storage. Sat in this car personally... I want it!!!
Saw one today and was wondering what it was
there is a big container beneath the cupholders in first row. But you didn't shown that.
Awesome Review Of 2017 Land Rover Discovery. 😁
Great review... it does have google maps just turn on the satellite view layer! Also tons of storage I suspect you've found it by now.
Missed all the hidden storage in the center stack
I like the design.
can you do a review of the Range Rover Sport with ivory leather
I bet this gone break down in 1 year LOL love the video
Can you do a review for the new Velar.
Just so we are clear what size wheels does the discovery have. Because you said at one segment it has 2inch wheels and another segment it has 22 inch wheels the viewers are confused
Thanks for fixing your microphone issues Sofyan. However, since you are a well established youtuber may i suggest in investing on a gimbal. It helps your vids run smooth. Keep it up and more power to you.
can you do a review on the New Mitsubishi pajero
I’m totally going to get one ☝️
who is sofyan in this car?
So if you're really fat, you might break it.....I hollered 😂😂😂💀💀💀💀
Jacques Smith so did I lol
Me too🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣
Great review. Considering this car when current lease expires in 2 yrs.
So nice 👍
I think the cup holders can be removed/moved for a deeper storage
Gmax there is, slide the cup holder and it will reveal a deeper storage
awesome
If I buy this, I'd swap the wheels and tires for off road tires and wheels to get the full off road capability. With that being said, I might even modify it, even if mine tops out $80k because I love luxury features, versatility and off road vehicles.
Know your product before you review and complain about lack of storage. The cupholders push forward and there’s more storage underneath. The climate control faceplate also folds down.
What was holding me back from purchasing a Land Rover is they didn't offer Apple Carplay. Just found out it's officially optional, i know what i'm getting.
Looks like a weird Ford Explorer
Then 4 mins in he mentions that lol.. Nevermind
Same designer did the Ranger Rover did the explorer................
This looks like a Ford Explorer with Discovery on it. I Discovered it looks like a Ford Explorer
All those who think discovery = explorer should buy explorer n be happy tht they have landrover.. 😜🤪
@@Alan_Mac Youd have too in order to buy this fragile iPad on wheels.
I have a budget of 25-30k for a new car. daily driver, all season car, mostly highway driving. looking for a fun, sporty, good looking car that handles well and has decent power. What are your recommendations?
Kyle Minissale Go get yourself a lightly used 2017 Accord Sport 4 cylinder with the 6 speed manual. The regular naturally aspirated 2.4 is much more proven then the new turbos, and with the 6 speed manual, you avoid Hondas transmission problems. It's fun to drive, economical, roomy, efficient, and has decent power.
Mazda 6, 2018 Camry, and Accord.
2013 Hyundai Genesis sedan R-spec 429 horses beast 8 speed Direct injection .. will make other cars surprise and maybe cry .. or used 2015-16 Chrysler 300 S trim very luxury like .. or 2012-13 genesis sedan v6 333 horses stock will make other v6 whip
Miko Chryslers are junk cars. Why would you suggest a vehicle to a person with a modest budget of 25 K. Does it look like he wants to spend every weekend at the dealer getting his transmission and electronics repaired. Hyundai is a decent car, but it will fall apart soon after the warranty ends, so I would avoid.
Brian Lawrance are you dumb ? The 300 especially the 2016 issues has been fix, the reliability isn't the best but isn't dead last either ., those cars looooove Highway , get the S trim with even 300 horses good power for everyday , and Hyundai is up there with top 5 in realibility , the genesis platform is what I'm advising specifically , great unique sleeper especially their TAU 5.0 429 horses direct injection sedan .. they won't fall apart basic maintanxe should prolong their life ..
20:47 mmm 🤔 resonator delete should be nice on a lux family suv 😂 love it...
how much does it cost
I know you posted this a while ago. I am on fence on this. I like them but not sure how much. I have an 09 rr sport that I really like.
Please add stationary for computer and printer
This discovery is better than it's competitors 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥
Do a review in the Velar
2018 Lincoln Navigator review?
Alix Allen didn't think he gets fords
Explain to me how storage is limited when door pockets are huge, underneath the cupholders is HUGE, glove box is HUGE, and behind the air vents is a good amount of space for smaller items. Also, I see you have your phone and sunglasses in the cubby beneath the air condition controls? I don't think that was an accurate statement.
Edit: also there are 2 map pockets on the back of the front seats...they deficiently thought of storage
Great vehicle, but yeah, my durango has that shift knob and at least twice a month I forgot that I didn't put in in parked and it does it for me when I open the door... (obviously not when the vehicle is rolling at x speed) it's faster than the lever on the R/T tho
I like the look a lot and interior is great but I'm skeptical of longterm reliability particularly with this price tag...
Its worth checking the owner satisfaction stats to gauge reliability, and the Disco nails it with 4.6/5 www.productreview.com.au/p/land-rover-discovery-4-2010-present/m/discovery-4-2010-2016.html. Resale values are also off the scale at around 70% after 4 years (from personal experience with 3 Discos). The reason is no other high-end vehicle has its off-road capability and is also family-friendly. Hence families queue up to buy these second-hand and pay good money for them. By comparison, look at the resale values of Jeeps, Audis, Volvos etc and they're typically worth less than 50% of their new value after 4 years.
you can push those cup holders forward mate for more space.
Review the Q70L
Oh and do more night reviews/drives
Lc revew when is it's coming 🤤
That review should go live on Sept 11th! Just a little bit longer :)
Redline Reviews thanks for replying your will fall in love with the lc you might even sell the Mazda for it😏😂
Lots of storage, those cupsholder slide forward and give you deep storage underneath, and look at that eject button by the hvac knobs, that does'nt eject you out of the car, that dash opens up and has storage behind it... fyi
Ok you clearly didn't spend enough time in that interior, there is loads of storage! Otherwise, good review overall.
The Discovery looked so good back then, now it looks like a Evoquev mixed with a Ford
Funny you mention limited storage space in the front. Wrong. Did you not slide the cup holder forward? Did you not open the HVAC controls? Did you not notice that this has TWO glove boxes? Get outta here. Hope they're not paying you.
I like
Jaguar-Land Rover still hasn't gotten the memo that 1%er's expect Android Auto/Apple CarPlay along with 4G LTE connectivity in 2017.
nunchaku101
Those Illuminati and their Agenda21.
Have you ever used Apple CarPlay? Its rubbish, I don't understand why everyone hypes it so much. Google Maps doesn't work so you're forced to used Apple Maps (I hate) and when you get a call or want to use a music app, the map disappears. A decent, well-engineered in-car entertainment system is way superior to using smartphone apps IMHO.
John Pitcher
Android Auto gives me much more music variety than SiriusXM which is especially useful on long roadtrips.
I haven't tried Android yet (as I have an iPhone) so can't comment, but was pretty disappointed with Apple CarPlay. Its fine for your basic car but most high-end ICE's are superior I think. I use Spotify for my music and that can be easily accessed via Bluetooth and my kids can choose songs on the phone, but with CarPlay the phone had to be plugged in (Ford Fusion) so its a pain to pass around. Why it doesn't work over Bluetooth is beyond me.
Hopefully its reliability isn't an issue.
Did you just call the Acura MDX a competitor to a Range Rover Disco? Are you serious?
Like your show, keep em coming but please change your camera. The fish eye makes it hard to really see the lines of the vehicle in this video. Thx
You actually don't need to remind us that it has nothing to do with the Ford platform. They still look alike.
Wait! No cooled seats? Bummer.
20:10 when you forget your child is in the second row of seats lol.
Interiors design language looks more like a Jaguar than a Range.
they are both owned by the same company.... partsbin?
Review the X5
The rear is just awful. The offset license plate no longer makes sense. It did many years ago with the spare tire/odd shaped window.
05Forenza It might still allow a spare to be mounted.
Agree.. they slept when they designed the rear
then put the spare on back like it should be or go buy an Explorer
I like it. Makes it look unique.
Steve Oswald how? It looks aggressive.
This design fits the discovery sport better.
@ 29:33 they took those side grills from the new KIA optima lolol
You could put a rock climbing wall on that large rear end.
But isn't the ford explorer based off the range rover?
It reminds of an explorer
The sport looks better.
Boy, the new Ford Explorers are looking way classy now a days....oh wait..
