    Great video! I wonder have you ever found a product you can layer under shellac to strengthen it? Do you find shellac damages nails more then other products as I found I wasn’t happy with their new base coat? Many thanks

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 года назад +1

      Hello there :) The thing is Shellac is designed for healthy and normal nails. If the nails are damaged or weak you might choose to do an overlay and then use Shellac on top. Or wait until the nails improve and then do Shellac.
      I do find that some people can experience surface damage from Shellac and any other enhancement product. Even nail polish over time can cause surface damage. I found Dazzle Dry to be the most gentle product so far.
      What were the issues you had with the new CND Shellac base coat?

    • @Ellasofia14
      @Ellasofia14 2 года назад

      @@TheSalonLife Thankyou so much for your reply. That’s all very helpful 😊 I found their new base coat caused more surface damage once removed. I noticed this on regular clients who I’d had no previous issues with 🤷‍♀️

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 года назад

      Hi Elizabeth! It's just a heating pad and I applied the rice filled pad on top of it to add weight. I used to use the rice filled pad before but now I don't have microwave at my studio so this works very well too.
      amzn.to/3MmCJUX
      The gloves I use are not acetone proof that's why I don't really wear polish. They are 99% effective but they seep sometimes. Latex is better but I don't use them due to allergies.

    Anna how do you manage to make even removing gel nails so effortless haha! I really dove back into my regular polish collection in the last year even having invested quite a bit in a pro led light and Madam Glam/Kokoist/Nail Thoughts gel polishes which are my fav for gorgeous bright rich shades and quality in general. Ran across them at the salon I had gone to for years for gel pedis. I never wanted to spend the money for gel manis because my nails grow so much faster and not worth the 2 week wear. Started doing them at home for that reason on occasion and I have just as insane difficulty getting the gel off even doing much thinner layers compared to the extra and thicker my salon always did to wear like iron. Didnt matter if I roughed up first with my electric file or how long I soaked in acetone with foil or clips literally it would never easily come off with a cuticle stick or remover tool and I'd end up having to be way more abrasive on my nail just to get off the dam gel much as i loved it while on. Drove me insane and why i went back solely to regular polish becaue my nails were becoming sensitized from all that acetone soaking. I just ordered a highly reviewed peel off gel base coat where you can just soak your gels off in warm water which would be a dream. Fingers crossed as much as I love my regular polish collection I dont want to have to throw away my gel stash after all the money invested but I refused to use it again until I found a better removal option that didnt involve the jaws of life. I use professional quality brands so just not understanding to date why it is so absurdly difficult to remove as it never was the pure ease of your video like I always imagined it would be when doing at home! 😅

      Just remember: LED can give regular frequent users nailbed cancer

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 года назад +2

      LED is a type of bulb and not a type of light.
      There was a study, published in the Spring 2013 issue of Photochemistry and Photobiology, supports recent findings published by scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, as well as studies conducted by an independent laboratory testing company, Lighting Science, Inc., disproving misleading Internet stories and media coverage suggesting such lamps may be unsafe.

      @@TheSalonLife Second I used to do gels at home on occasion and I still prefer my beautiful regular polish collection but yes there is a reason every quality salons doing endless manicures used LED in my opinion considering it was an upgrade from the original UV and less time under light to cure. It's why I invested in a quality led even for the non frequent times I do gel at home. Regardless the removing part makes me wanna throw myself out a window even with proper thin even application. Maybe shellac is much easier to remove compared to any other gel brand on earth Ive tried as that is how I always expected it to come off compared to my experience at home all these years lol

      Hi Ying! Thank you for your question!
      I'm not sure I understand it correctly, if not, please correct me.
      The heating pad goes on for about 8 minutes. I put the towel on the heating pad for hygiene purposes. Then when I fold the heating pad on I place something on top of it for some weight.
      I use an old rice-filled heating pad that I used to use when I had a microwave in my studio.

      Hello Irena! Cuticle was removed before application. What I don't cut, remove, or file is the living skin. Cuticle (dead skin) and living skin (Proximal Nail Fold) are very often confused.
      More info here: Where is the CUTICLE? by Doug Schoon article: bit.ly/3q5PgQH
      Oil and cream is how you treat dry skin, not by filing it or cutting it.
      Some people prefer more aggressive and invasive manicures and there are many places that offer that. I offer manicures without cutting or abrading living skin and my clients come to me because of that.
