Here’s a sample track. According to Rekordbox DJ and Serato DJ, it’s analyzed to be 3A. However... according to 3 of these Key analyzation websites it appears to be actually 11A.
Now, I know that may not be a big difference key-wise, but a slight deviation in key detection can affect the overall harmonic mixing and direction of one’s set.
While Rekordbox DJ and Serato DJ are fantastic DJ softwares, they simply don’t specialize in accurate Key Detection. Their primary focus is more for the mixing side of DJing.
Because of this, I decided to download and try Mixed in Key 10, as it claims to be the best and most accurate Key analysis software out there. And from my experience using it so far, it certainly is.
This software can also do more than just detect keys though, it also has the ability to Cue Point your tracks, and detect their energy level.
And all of these features can be directly integrated with your choice of DJ software, whether that’s Rekordbox DJ, Serato DJ or Traktor.
So to wrap it up, is Mixed In Key worth the one-time $59 price tag? In my opinion... Yes!
As someone who heavily relies on Harmonic Mixing, having a reliable software to analyze my tracks is a huge priority.
Furthermore, the addition of auto-generated hot cues can save a lot of time, instead of having to manually set them up.
So, if you want accurate key detection and automatically set cue points, then Mixed in Key 10 is the best software you can get to compliment your style of DJing.

More information about Rekordbox DJ: I tried Mixed In Key 10 and I realised that not only sets the Hot Cue, but also sets Memory Cue points for the same points.
And this is huge! I always use Memory Cue as a marker point or active loop point.
Track preparation becomes much easier. 😉

Which version of Rekordbox are you using? Have been trying endlessly to make it work and it doesn't. The MIK cue points don't show up in rekordbox.

What about tracks purchased from record pools (bearport, dj city, etc.) that already contain key information. Can this be considered correct or do they just try to analyse it automatically as well with a chance of getting it wrong? In short, does it make sense to run record pool files through Mixed in Key? Not from streaming services unfortunately. You'll need to have the actual file in your hard drive

Great video!!! But can you do a video for dummies? All my music stays in one place on recordbox even after a refresh, I followed step by step there is no way I did something wrong, I’ve watch many times this video. Every time when you add songs to your mix in key 10 all the songs stay together??? Because every time that I add new music there I need to be looking for the songs one by one in order to to put on a new folder! Please help and thanks 😊

Can I have MIK analyze the tracks just in my COLLECTION and not all the tracks i have in my music library? On occasion there are tracks I decide to pull out of my COLLECTION that I will never play. So right now I have my collection pretty well set. So, can MIK analyze just my collection in Rekordbox?

MIK actively updates their algorithm. When I did a test, they went one by one with every track MIK detected wrong. We sat with a piano and determined what went wrong. They’re really good.

Hey DJ Carlo. What is when i use Serato DJ Pro on my Macbook but Mixed in Key 10 on a Windows Desktop PC? The Reason is i have a M1 and i Organize faster my Collection with MP3Tag to rename or make it Cleaner with Pictures and so on. Does it work the Same and i have to use only my External HDD Analyze and change stuff on Windows with my Programms and then head over to my Mac and Reanalyze Tags in Serato?
Hmmmm, I actually haven't tried going between Windows and Mac with Mixed in Key, but it theoretically should work the same. Try analyzing a few tracks first and testing it out between devices.

that looks long the dj software should integrate MIC so you do not need to faff about with the settings, is MIC compatible with engine Prime
What about the key given by Beatport to tracks? I heard the key is submitted by the producer themselves. If I recall correctly, I think some of the key differs from mixed in key 8.
That's correct! But mixed in key can also detect the energy of a track and cue point them as well!

Great video. Very informative. I have to say, regarding the automatic cue pointing, it'd only be useful for me if I could train it to put cues /hotcues where I'd actually put them myself. I think Djs use these functions differently (esp. hot cues). It's not gonna be useful to have cues automatically put where an algorithm determines they should be put based on what other DJs do.

Hi, i wanna know if i can analyze my tracks in mixed in key, copy them to a pendrive n plug in straight into a xdj-700 to play. Will the camelot key notation work with that kind of process?
It should work! I've never tried them with an XDJ700, but the MIK tags should be written into the ID3 tags of the file itself, so you should be able to carry them over.

I just spent $200 on MIK and Platinum hope you are right about this. BTW I followed your instructions step by step and now my MIK has to re analyze 39,000 tracks all over again. The part about "go back to MiK" after you set up rekordbox should have been done first. My PC has been analyzing tracks for three days now and now it's going to be a whole other day because my first time running it it ran cue points for Serato instead of for Rekordbox. No biggy as long as it does what you said it will do in the end. T.b.c.

Don't be sorry man. I have faith in our knowledge working together to figure this out because it's still not working. I'm sure it's something I'm doing. One issue is I have 27,000 songs not including loops and samples. To recap! The only step I DID NOT do that honestly I was hoping I didn't have to is drag the song from the MIK GUI and put it into a newly made folder. I figured it would save the tag and cue information with the file in the original location. I used the big blue "add tracks" folder. MIK has clearly analyzed all the files so that's not the problem. The only issue I'm having is to get them to show up in Rekordbox. I'm about to start at the beginning for the third time and double check that I didn't miss anything. I changed the view and I can now see the key in the file name. The cue points are showing up in Mik but will not show up in Rekordbox.

just purchased this software with DJCARLO code but, it would be really helpful if you could do a video on how to add a few extra tracks to my existing collection. I find I am doing the whole process from scratch each time which with 2000 songs it takes ages to load. If you could run through how to add a few extra tracks as your collection grows that would be super helpful xx
You just need to load the new tracks into your crates bud! No need to re-load the entire collection every time.
@@djcarlo This is not true, even to this very day. You literally have to re-do your entire collection if you want cue points to be transferred to rekordbox XML... When I add new music, the XML does not register even when I export cue points to existing files. It is extremely frustrating and MIK has dogshit customer service when it comes to responding to their customers. I am using windows, so I don't know if that is the issue or what is going on, but I'd love to be able to simply add new music without having to re analyze all of my thousands of tracks.

My rekordbox has a new issue.. it gets disconnected while playing. For example song A will be playing when I try to cue the next song all the function stops functioning whereas song A will be playing but the Pause Cue and other function stops. It shows rekordbox is disconnected

Hmm, that's really strange. Try making another copy. Also, make sure that no other programs are using the xml file. If that doesn't work, try checking the Pioneer forums as well! You may find the answer there too, as I've yet to encounter this problem :o

If you analyse the track at 256kbps in Rekordbox and then the same track at 320kpbs then the key changes in Rekordbox
And that's why I don't trust Rekordbox's key detection algorithm haha

Does this work with music on a external drive
Yup! Just make sure your external drive is plugged in when you access your crates. Many DJs I know keep their music on an external drive, and play their sets on Serato like that.

I downloaded and bought mixed in key based on these videos, twice actually. The first time I requested my money back within a couple hours, which, they were quick and happy to do!
Second time I thought some of my frustrations might be user error and spent a full day troubleshooting both on my own and with the help of a MiK rep. Ultimately ended up getting my money back again.
My main issues were that the metadata was not being transferred probably. I followed all the instructions, etc and still a lot of the keys were showing up as a traditional notation and not Camelot. It also really messed up my beatgrids.
They're solution was to convert all my WAV files to AIPP, an apple specific format even though I use Windows.
I'll spare you all the details, but for a software that is supposed to save me time make my life easier, it ended up being a major headache and making me redo my entire library 3 times. 🥴
Oh man! I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that Peter. I used a Macbook when testing it out, so that's probably why it went off without a hitch. Gotta hand it to you though, you're a real trooper in trying to get it to work!

Would anyone know how to fix the issue I have with putting the song in the correct key... I am using rekordbox 6 on my Mac and the song I choose to play says a different key than what it's suppose to be. I also have rekordbox (an older version) on my windows lenova laptop and tried the same thing and the song is in the right key and mixes fine. Why is rekordbox 6 on my Mac not putting some songs in the right KEY so I can mix?? Would anyone know?? And how do I fix this issue?

The track is suppose to be in 12a. Rekordbox is keeping it in (7a) and it doesn't sound right when I switch it to 12a but that's what it is suppose to be at. You know how I can fix this?

Oof, I'm not so sure what could be the problem. I got the following from the Pioneer DJ forums; it might help!
import songs to rekordbox; allow them to analyse for all items available
export the XML file from rekordbox (File > Export Collection in XML format)
open MiK and import the same songs into MiK, allow them to analyse
click the Personalize tab
click Export Cue Points for Existing Files
close MiK, go back to rekordbox
verify that the XML setting is pointing to the correct file in the rekordbox preferences
click the refresh button beside the rekordbox xml tree item
right-click on the MIK Cue Points playlist, select Import Playlist; if prompted to overwrite, click yes

I don't think so. You'll need to feed them into Mixed In Key, and I don't think you can do that with Beatsource since it's pure streaming.

Double click on the BPM column. You should be able to edit it from there!

I've tried that too, it only allows for 4 tracks to be analyzed simultaneously and I see you have like well over 10 tracks going at the same time
@@carlos_mann his processor has more cores, I track per core. If yours does 4 you have a processor with 4 cores. There's nothing you can do to make it analyze more at the same time.

@@carlos_mann you need more threads to analyze more songs at the same time. The more cores your processor has the more threads it will have. I recently bought a ryzen 7 laptop, and it does 12 or 16 threads (don't remember) in Serato. Also, each thread's much faster than my old computer that only did 4. S for me it's like it's analyzing 40 songs at once.
If you get an intel laptop look for a Core i& if you get AMD look for Ryzen 7. Core i9 and Ryzen 9's would analyze even more songs at the same time but will cost more $$$.
yeah its not very accurate on bpm either but on that i think of it as more of a rough guide then spot on

great and helpful video, how can I auto change the colors of my cue's. in your video when you load the track, instantly de hot cue's are colorized. how? now I have to change all of the cue's of all tracks manually. because only green cue's are boring :P
also,
can you make multiple folders,(xml) every time you need to use MIK for new songs?
Oh! I'm not sure. It might be a setting you can dive into in MIK! And for new XMLs, I believe there's another setting for that as well :)
I tried this and all my bpms were wrong maybe 5 out of a thousand tracks were right and to be clear all the songs were all acapellas now serato got 85% of the a cappella right 35% we’re right in Rekordbox Dj
Ah! The acapellas get very VERY tricky since they don't have beats. Those need some manual adjusting.
So I wasn’t the only one to notice this…

Tbh I don‘t really care if it‘s not 100% accurate. As long as you use the same programm (i.e. rekordbox) throughout your whole library, you keep the same „errors“. As a result, the songs are still in key among each other.
