    I'm a volly firefighter in PA. A few years ago we had a tour of Rescue Company 2 and FireBoat 343. Just going from memory I think it can pump up to 50,000 g/min. Serious water in any respect. The deck guns are huge. The firefighters giving us the tour were super nice and really took their time with us. You can tell they love their job.

      That big monitor on the front of each tug has an 8” tip and can put out 17,000gpm alone. Thing is an absolute unit.

    Can you imagine the amount of water that was thrown by those 3 boats?? MA1 "Three Forty Three" and MA9 "Fire Fighter II" both capable of 50,000 GPM with all 4 engines running on each ship, then add in little MA6 "Bravest" pumping its heart out at 7,000 GPM. That's a whole lot of "Putting the wet stuff on the red stuff"

      They don’t actually have a separate division for firefighting, but many are equipped with small monitors to help with fire operations if necessary. It’s the same idea for the coast guard and tug boats that are capable of firefighting. Just there to help if needed.
      In this instance they actually operated for awhile until all of the FDNY boats arrived.

    Fire boats throw tons (literally) of water a minute. The port of Los Angeles main fireboat has EIGHT monitors, 4 capable of putting out 70,000 GPM at full power, and 4 that put out 22k GPM. And that’s just 1 boat. NYFD’s boats are slightly smaller, but no less impressive.

    • @FDNYResponseVideos
      @FDNYResponseVideos  Год назад +5

      Believe it or not the FDNY fireboats are actually larger than LAFD’s fireboat #2. Fire boat 2 has a length of 102 feet with 10 Unitor/Skum Fi-Fi Systems @ 38,000 GPM total. While the two FDNY ships (343 & firefighter II) are both 140 feet long. Both fireboats have four different size monitors-one 17,000-gpm, six 5,000-gpm, four 2,000-gpm, and one 1,000-gpm monitor mounted at the basket on the tip of a 50-foot crane. Each fireboat has six monitors capable of delivering a foam product. When stationary the boats have a total capacity of pumping 50,000 GPM
      That being said - the FDNY went to LA & Seattle to study their fireboats which brought them to the decision to use a Robert Allan-designed fireboat.

    That is the largest fire hydrant lol. But seriously, I don't believe it was the ebike batteries. Knowing the dangers of the batteries and the sensitive nature of the items inside they should've had taken the batteries out before storing the bikes. That's just common sense. Even junkyards store electric vehicles away from the rest of their inventory.

      Police boats are on patrol 24/7 always on the water. FDNY has small boats on on the water through out the day but the big boats are docked untill needed. Having a duel perpus boat out there allows more coverage. ALL NYPD boats have firefighting capabilities and assist FDNY when needed. There is over 500 miles of water front in nyc. The NYPD also has jurisdiction north of the GWB. And have even been requested by other states for assistance.

Drones are used with IR to direct streams towards hotspots, that’s what the “FDNY Robotics” are there for.

    The water tanks used to fight fire must weigh the ship down. Wonder how long they last before going back to port to refill the tanks. I asked my 5 year old sister that question and she was like, oh that's gotta suck, they move pretty slow to lots of time lost in refilling the tanks, maybe they could run a rose to the ships or bring out a tanker to pump water into the firefighting water tanks. She said it with a straight face. Then silence, followed by, why don't they just pump it out of the water they are floating in....

      This was 3 hours into the incident. The building was gone and it was a surround and drown operation. Most of the units had already left. What is taking too long for you? There’s absolutely no need to rush in that stage of the operation, especially with 3 fireboats dumping 30,000+ gallons of water per minute on the building.
