I use my 24 GM a whole lot for portraits. Most clients want to include the background to showcase where they are. My Sigma 35 1.2 is also helpful as well.
Are you going to make a video on how you take those dance floor shots and get the light trails? They're really awesome and I have a wedding gig coming up.
Yeah, between 24GM and 35GM I’d go for 35 first, as my primary lens choice, but 24 would need to follow :) The effect is achieved thanks to the technic called dragging the shutter. I’m planning a video on it too, but is in the queue :)
Great video, I am looking to get the new sony 35 1.4 G for night events. Are you using a flash on the receptions? either way with or without flash, what settings are you using Shutter speed and ISO at 1.4? Great shots you have!! thanks
:D I do not use my Sony 24mm 1.4 GM for parties, I use the 24mm most for landscapes, but also people in groups, street, architecture, partly close-up, sometimes I use it in APSC mode as a "35"mm, so a good allround Lens :) I fits nicely in company with my Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 and Sony 135mm 1.8 GM. I also have a 20mm, but I only use that 2 to 3 times in a year, I had an extreme ultra wide angle lens, but that I got bored of.
Magic, great videos as usual, I like your style and content, question, I have the 24 1.4 GM, great lens, and use it with A7RIV, have configured my lens hold bottom to switch to super 35 (APC Crop), I understand that I am still getting about 30 MP that is plenty for me, you also have the 24, may I ask you what are the advantages of the 35 1.4 GM vs 24 cropped (equivalent to 36?)? , what is are the trade offs?....from my tests, cropped rendering looks still great, thanks
Hey Maciej, I want to do night club photography. I have the Panasonic S5 Full Frame camera with a 35mm f/1.8 I love te 35mm focal length but sometimes it is not wide enough in tight places. I also want to IN the party like yourself. I am deciding between getting a 24mm or an 18mm lens (both a Panasonic native lenses with f/1.8 so the wideness is the main difference) Will 18mm be too wide in your opinion?
I'm with Nikon Z system so the range of available lenses is far smaller then for Sony cameras. The only available 24mm prime is Nikon Z 24/1.8s and I have to say I didn't really like it. I got rid of it in order to buy 24-70/2.8 wich I use for wide shots. It's also my back up lens as I normally shoot with 35, 50 and 85 primes. As I mentioned I didn't really like Nikon Z 24/1.8s and I think you said why - you have to know how to use it. Your sample shots are great example when and hot to use it. Nicely done.,
Great video, I got mine end of last year and can't wait to try it out at a wedding! What's the red grip you have on your camera, that looks awesome? Keep up the great content!
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer it looks cool,.love the flash of colour on the cam. I'm always worried that these things won't be strong enough for my tripod socket mounted straps.
How do you feel about the sony 20mm f1.8? I'm currently consider purchasing this lens but I'm questioning if it's going to be to limiting compared to a wide angle zoom lense.
I feel it’s a great lens, on pair technically with 24GM, just a 4mm shorter and one stop darker. I tested it briefly few times, probably need to shoot more with it to give more thoughts to it
Another great Video Magic..I use the 35mm GM & 85mm 1.8, but I want to add another lens. Not sure wether to go for the 20mm, 24mm1.4, or at the other end the 135mm..Any advice ?
My personal preference would be to go wider. With 85mm you can sort of mimic 135 by cropping. But you’ll never get 20mm out of 35mm image. But again - that’s a personal preference :)
Hi Magic! What can you tell me about the 25 f2? Can it keep the pase with the 24 f1.4 gm? I want to safe for the 35mm GM instead of getting the 24mm GM
25/2 Batis is a beaty. For sure it's not as sharp as 24GM and as fast in AF. But it produces lovely image, so if you just need this lens to supplement your 35GM you should be good to go!
I just received mine this week and I’m absolutely in love with this lens! Also glad you covered the 24 for your use case as I was kindly asking for it in the last video :D
Hey Magic! I have the 24/1.4gm glass and I love it for landscape and even for environmental portraits when in tight place. Sure it is not an ideal portrait lens, but distortion is indeed kept pretty low. For those party shots I guess you use rare curtain flash syncing and shutter speeds like 0.5-2secs, right? How do you set that up?
Hey Zollie! It;s not rare curtain flash, cause this why I wouldn't know when the flash is firing, so I keep my flash firing the moment when I press the shutter, shutter speeds at around 0,5sec (as a starting point), ISO low - 100-400, and aperture at f/7-11
Yup! Just like that :) 35+55 almost full day! Sometimes I grab 85 instead of 55. But here’s some example of wedding shot like that: www.magicweddingphotographer.com/wedding-in-domaine-de-la-fauconnie-south-france/ What do you use for your weddings?
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer well those are stunning photos! I have used my 85 often and then need to use my 135 for ceremony. But I might try going for the 35/55 combo on my next outdoor wedding. It seems like you must be fairly close but not in the way and no distortion on your 35. Really beautiful!
Love this video! For years I used 16-35 and 24-70 for weddings and now I’m rocking the 24GM and 50 1.4. Best decision ever. Also use 70-200 and 135 😎 Subscribed! I have a new channel if you want to check it out.

You make a convincing arguement for the 24 1.4. It’s on my list.

Father of 4 here also and learning a lot about wedding and event photography. If you come to Portugal let me know!
Hi Magic, I love your videos! When will your video on 'dragging the shutter' come?
I love it!! I might have to order the 35 1.4 GM however. How do you get that cool blurred light effect on your pics? Very cool

Then use an apc mode where u get 35 mm from 24mm.
