I love how different everyone's kit is and how every kit works for those people and their style of photography. Great reasons as to why you use each lens! I always find myself at the 24 and 85 focal length. Apparently I rarely use 35 and 50 but love seeing the kind of work that people like you create with those too! Happy shooting everyone 🙂
Few years ago I was big fan of 35mm as a wide lens and 135mm and 85mm for tele. Now I don't need anything more than35mm and 50mm as a longest focal length in my bag. If I situations would allow then I'd use only 50mm! I know I'm limiting myself with different and a bit flatten perspectives that longer lenses give but somehow 50mm is all I need .... at least at the moment.. it all may change :)
I use a custom button to go into crop/apsc mode on my A7iv it makes the 24mm effectively 36mm I've never notice a loss in quality. It was such a hard choice to make but it was definitely a good one.
Have you ever used the Sigma 65mm f2? I got it recently and have been blown away for the image quality and practically of the lens. I would definitely love to hear what you think of it if you ever use it.
If you have a Sony A7RIV (RV) with 60 megapixel, then you do not need 35mm 1.4, because you use APSC-mode (26 megapixel) with the 24mm 1.4 which are equivalent to 36mm.
Yes and No :) It is equivalent to focal length, but image wise it will get you closer to 35mm f/1.8, which for me is a deal breaker for a lens that I shoot my 50% of images on. I do only own A7IV's, so can't play with that, but A7RV is a beast thanks to that 26mp on APS-C (more than any Sony APS-C camera haha)
I'm with you on the 85...it's a purely utility lens for me. I was thinking of getting the 135, but I did my whole wedding year with the 85 and just went into the APSC mode on my A4 when I needed a closeup during the ceremony. It looks like you didn't use the 135 or any longer zoom eh?
JasonWrites , i own the 85 and 135 and altough they look nice on portraits outside i do feel disconected shooting that long and tend to use my 17-28, 35 and 50 way more.
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer Thanks, Magic! You're the best. For weddings I'm really a 24, 40 and 85mm kind of guy. Super tidy. (I have the 20 that I only bring if I know the couple wants a big group shot of everyone, but even then, 24mm seems to do the trick) Your channel is super helpful, by the way :)
I feel like 85/1.8 is faster. That GM is slow unfortunately, it's an old Sony tech. But image wise GM is lovely, has something in the look of the image that is more 'old school', not that clinical like new GMs
Please make a video how to use the raw files of the RV for lightroom. That would be so great. Don't understand how to use exif tool. I converted them but Lightroom can't read the files!
My event photogtaphy kit currently consists of an a6400/a7mk3 and the following lenses: tamron 17-28, tamron 28-75, sigma 35 1.4 DN, sigma 50 1.4, sony 85 1.8 and sigma 135 1.8. My most used lenses are the 17-28, 35, 50 and 85 so i was thinking of just getting rid of the 28-75 and 135. Don't know but the 135 it's just too long and i feel disconected, sometimes also the 85 feels too long...a6400 it's just my back-up camera or i'll give it to my girlfriend when i need her help toghether with the 28-75. I love shooting wide so probably the 12-24 2.8 or 14-24 2.8 and a 20 1.4 would fit me better than the long focal lengths. What do you think i should do, keep everything that i have or do a few changes?
yeah, if you're mostly using 17-28, 35, 50 and 85 that sounds like a great setup. 20/1.8 or 1.4 could probably replace your 17-28, depending on what focal lengths you use most on that zoom - do you use those those 17mm?
Had the 35 1.8 and upgraded to sigma 35 1.4 DN, altough i liked the small size and weight of the 1.8 mine had a bit too much CA for my taste, not that sharp and bokeh not pleasing to me so the 1.4 on the sigma is helping me in low light, gives me better bokeh and has way less CA or close to none and it's a bit bigger and heavier but i think it's worth it.
Depends on your needs, i swapped te 35 1.8 for the GM and.... came back to 1.8, I decided that because of compact size and just realized that i don't need the 1.4 aperture. Most of the time I'm closing it to 2.0-2.8 because of depth of field for group photos and many other situations where i need more object sharp. Now 35 1.8 and 55 1.8 creates the mega handy wombo combo for me, I stopped thinking about spending money on 1.4/1.2 apertures. And let's stay true :) NOBODY will see the difference in bokeh from both lenses :) until you compare them in one to one situation :)
@@karolmilewski6001 How about in low light? Yes the 1.8 is still okay but an 1.4 will drop your iso in half. Tested myself and went from 12800 at 1.8 to 6400 1.4, now i like cleaner photos and shallower dof in certain situations but can't deny the portability and weight of that sony 1.8
yeah dude - 35GM is awesome. I personally prefer f/1.4 look, especially on the lens that is my main lens. But it does depends on your preference. Like someone in the comments mentioned - your clients won't tell the difference, so it's up to you. The closest comparison I did is this one: ruclips.net/video/NNWeGny6Ygo/видео.html (24/1.4GM in APS-C mode creates image looking almost exactly like 35mm f/1.8 , so that might be helfpul)
Apart from tilt shift a rather boring collection of lenses, Sorry about that. All the gm lenses are absolutely fantastic but also immensely boring. May be, adding some Zeiss or Voightlander magic and that great 90mm g f2.8 macro.
Weddings. gm 24 35 50 make total sens for "rational" "handling" , especially for such demanding expectations (expected by so many present people). Myself I prefer dg dn 35 f1.2 and 85 over the gm's , love my Voigt 65 f2, f1.4 105, but for doing weddings again I would probably agree with him (or tamron 35-150 with a dg dn 14-24. Weddings.... :-) ) I know : nothing I said is "the solution"

35 and 50 baby!!
Your comments on the 85mm makes me really interested in the 50mm 1.2 I've been wanting it for a little while. Great video

I love to hear the details on what you shoot with each!! Thank you for sharing.
Hey, thanks for watching!!
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer Always!! I do wonder if your opinion on the 85mm will change if and when they come out with a 1.2?? 😀
I do wonder about that too haha :D
But! I did have Canon 85/1.2L II for couple of years and barely used it. And it's suppose to be THE 85MM LENS, so...
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer Interesting! The weight of the lens or just the range?
Great vid. The photo examples were awesome. With perfect explanations for each lens use 👍🏾

Thank you for the video.
Can you share the percentage images of each lens in your collection?
Hey, sure! For the main 4 lenses it's:
24mm - 15%
35mm - 50%
50mm - 29%
85mm - 6%
@@MagicWeddingPhotographer thank you for the statistics. So 35 is your main lens 😍.

Yeah, nothing longer. It would be for sure somewhat useful, but longer lenses like 135 or 70-200 are just too big for me.
