Volvo 480 - The most unusual Volvo

- Today, I’m going to tell you the story of the most unusual and unexpected Volvo cars - Volvo 480, produced from 1986 to 1995.
This car was built on one platform with Volvo 440 and 460 and shares a lot of mechanical components with them. But the appearance of the Volvo 480 has nothing to do with the 440 or with other usual Volvo cars at all. It was more like a starship.
Volvo wanted to attract a younger audience with this car, especially in the United States. The 480 was made for America but was never actually sold in the U.S., unfortunately.
Volvo 480 was never the fastest car on the road. Despite its small weight, it felt a little underpowered. But actually is a very funny little car with great handling. As a bottom line - it was a good and very unusual car for its time. It’s cool even now.

Great video with lots of information. I myself drive a Volvo 440 from 1994 since the beginning of the year. It was given to me by the first owner, and it had 74.000 km when I got it from her. Now we are at 82.000 without any issues. Great comfortable car and without a doubt is it a unique sight on the road!

Hi, can confirm, headlight motors are expensive to replace, as is everything else. Currently own a 1992 GL with 1.7 n/a auto. Got it for cheap after it was sitting for almost 10 years. As a result there are pinholes in the cylinder liners - pressure in the cooling system which means I haven't been able to drive it over a kilometre. As a fix I got a 2001 v40 t4 manual which will be an engine donor fixing the lack of power as well.
I do wish you success in this project! This car is awesome and there are not that many of them who stayed on the road, unfortunately. Good luck!
hi, how did it get the pinholes in the liners? no antifreez coolant? only water ?
@@chriskytiri3174 Exactly, the water I drained from the cooling system had become more viscous from all the oxidation suspended in it
