  • Hey everybody, welcome back to my channel and welcome back to you another video.
Today's chat is about health insurance premiums skyrocketing, how it's a little sus, The effect it’s having on employees and employers and also I tell you a little bit of a funny joke at the end.
    So let’s get into it!
It is that time of the year again for people to enroll in their health insurance for the new year every year it's like a whammy when HR tells you oh by the way your health insurance is increasing this much this year.
    For those who don't know:
Health insurance premiums refer to the amount of money that individuals or families pay
on a regular basis to maintain their health insurance coverage. These premiums can
vary depending on factors such as age, location, and the type of plan chosen.
Premiums are typically paid monthly or on a yearly basis.
Open enrollment is a specific period during which individuals can sign up for or make
changes to their health insurance plans. This period is usually limited to a few weeks or
months each year. During open enrollment, individuals have the opportunity to compare
different plans, review their coverage options, and make changes to their existing plans
if needed. It is important to take advantage of open enrollment to ensure that you have
the most suitable health insurance coverage for your needs.
I feel like this is the stuff they should have taught in high school. We know enough about
these things now that they should be talked about. If I’m ever a teacher or college
professor, I will find a way to make this part of the curriculum.
So this year for me for example, my premium has quadrupled. so I went to the
marketplace to see if it would be cheaper to get insurance otherwise it’s literally not
For me to get the same coverage I’m getting now it’s like $100-$150 more per month.
But get this there are options that you have to select on the marketplace.
One of those options is, does your employer offer health insurance?
If you select, yes, you were punished by premiums for not using your employers health
    insurance
If you select no, you get a tax deduction..ok great but ur still paying more.
So essentially, the government is saying we’re going to punish you for not
    using your employer's health insurance.
But then the government will also punish businesses that don’t offer health insurance.
It’s the same thing with car insurance…
You’re paying these fees, to basically protect yourself in the end, that you harm
someone with a vehicle and also protect yourself in the event that they harm you with a
vehicle and they don’t have enough coverage to cover your medical injuries …
In the state of Florida we actually don't have a requirement for motorist to have PI or UM
like other states do the bare minimum is literally 10,000 in property damage and pip.
In other states like Alabama for example, I think they require 25,000 BI/UM.
The good thing about me being as young as I am is that I’m a relatively healthy person
and I don’t have a lot of medical problems. However, that can change it any point.
However, That works in my favor in terms of the cost I would pay for insurance but at the
same time now my take-home pay is going to be the same as what I was making when
    my income was 5k less.
So like next year when I turn 25, though my premium with insurance goes up $150…
turning 25 is like hit to my bank account and it continues and goes and goes up from
    there.
A lot of people do go without insurance.
In fact, it used to be that you were penalized through your taxes. it's no longer like that
but it's really ridiculous and it's like I either make the choice of having health insurance
and taking a huge reduction in pay for my contribution or not having it at all and then
being in a pickle if something happens.
