After being a nurse for 9 years, I have arrived at one truth. If you are doing this for the money and not because you actually care about the patients, nursing is not the profession for you.
Thanks for your thoughts, Winston. I would agree that no one should become a nurse if they just want to make a lot of money and I would argue that most people do not become nurses for that reason. With that being said, I believe that money is still important as nurses provide a service through a specific skillset that they dedicated a portion of their life to hone.
Economics matter with inflation and real estate prices soaring and hope for families and their healthy outcomes truly matter. There are many fields in nursing for all types.
Most of the high paying places other than CA are in the Midwest (Ohio, Missouri, Iowa like you mentioned) because it’s a difficult place to live and is flyover country. The larger city/metro areas are expensive and the weather is really cold and snowy so a lot of folks dont want to deal with that for 6-8 months of the year. Plus the high cost of taxes, winter gear, snow tires, gas/heating etc.

Hello I am new at all this. I am a 43 year old woman and I have a different background totally different.. I need a change. I new beginning.. Now I am interested in getting my certification in nursing or phlebotomy certification need help deciding. Please help me I need guidance 🙏
Hey Erica, thanks for watching and for your comment! Are you considering becoming a RN or LPN? Either way, it's quite a bit more schooling than getting a phlebotomy certification. A lot of the nursing careers mentioned in this video require more schooling than just your RN or BSN. Long term, I don't think you can go wrong with pursuing nursing over phlebotomy as you'll earn a lot more, but it all depends on what you want to do and your current situation. As always, I'd recommend doing your own research. I hope that's helpful!
Don’t do it for the money. You will hate it. Even if you somewhat can tolerate it, it still sucks. Getting worse by the day. When I started there was no such thing as meth. Now 4-5 out of my six patients can be meth related patients, it makes what I do seem so pointless. Beyond depressing.
LPN to RN comes to mind right away but I guess the real question would be what do you want to do? Work business, work nursing, or a mix of both, or maybe even become an entrepreneur!?
Hey, thanks for your comment! I agree with you, I do think all nurses should make that much. Unfortunately that's not the norm if you're looking at the statistics.
@@Katherine_Ann No, of course not. In some parts of the country you need to work two jobs AND have a partner to share expenses with if you want anything resembling the American dream. For the amount of schooling and stress and risk that this job comes with, we are not doing for our nurses what they've done for us. So much for being heroes. This country craps on its heroes.
I'm going to start my education for a rn program, but should I go right for a bsn degree. Or should I just go for the rn and try to have a hospital pay for my future bsn degree
Hi! Thanks for your comment! That all depends on where you're looking. You would have to obtain a nursing license to work in America. There are companies and programs that look specifically for foreign educated nurses, I would look into one of them!

Don't become a nurse unless you like being treated like garbage and paid just enough to force you to stay in nursing. May have been a better job when humans took better care of themselves. Not worth it now.
Hi Red! I would imagine that is dependent state to state. When I lived in Pennsylvania, CAA were not even a job to be had, but here in Georgia that is a job.
Hi there! I personally have never attended one, nor heard of this before! I have been to a physical career fair and brought my resume with me and dressed professionally. I also thought of questions to ask ahead of time. Bring questions just as you would to a job interview and dress professionally as well :) Hope that helps!
Honestly referencing California is completely pointless. The cost of living and tax rate makes it a silly data point that should not be included in any analytics. Also CRNA isn't really just a "nursing degree". Yes its a nursing degree in name but in practice you put in another 4 years for it. That's alot of time and investment on top of the bachelors. Plus not it's even more since they require a DNP first before you can even apply to CRNA school. That's an additional 8 years. Funny thing is that this change was put into place by the nurse governing bodies. It's not even push back from MDs or other special interest. It's OUR OWN Freaking people giving us the middle finger.
Nurses here in California are like that rich compared to nurses in other states who r just average living. I met a RN who lives in SF bay who drives a Lamborghini. I'm an RN here in California and my hourly rate is $118/hr. Even those taxes here r the highest and cost of living here is the highest. Your pay as an RN overweighs it.
@@Katherine_Ann ya there is a lot of myths and misconception about cost of living and RN pay that people r not getting or understanding. RNs here believe it or not some are making around 300-600k. U can youtube nurses to ritches. I work with them. One of my friends here showed me his paycheck of 12k. Some makes 20k on one paycheck.

@@Katherine_Ann, I am an RN/BSN. 🙂 I live in the suburbs of Dallas. I forgot to thank you for the video . Your husband did a great job doing the research. Have a nice weekend.
Cost of living is very high in California. Not a job you do for the money. If you do not have a family or kids and live alone and in a lower income area you might be ok.
Random Question: How does a nurse apply to a speciality? I’m not in nursing school yet, but is it apart of the schooling? How do we match with a program( example if you want to do med surge/ or peds etc.)
Hey Jane, I agree! Nursing is definitely not all about money, if it was, I'd pursue being a CRNA. Money is important and I think it's necessary for us to realize our worth or what the potential for us as healthcare providers can be.
I was born in Fairfield. Also Vallejo is pronounced Va-Lay-O or for the fancy folks Va-Lay-Ho. Thanks for the info as well and cudos to your hubby for getting us the info.
I agree! I don't mean to downplay the education requirements for CRNAs at all. You have to dedicate a significant portion of your life in order to become one.
@@Katherine_Ann btw I love your energy and your sweet voice in the video. Kudos your husband for helping out with the info. Thank you both for such an interesting video
These are the truths universally acknowledged. I learned nothing knew from this video. To be different, you could have researched Cardiac Perfusion, RN First Assist to really appeal to those researching educational opportunities.
Cali is separated by Northern and Southern. Northern Cali pays more than Southern Cali. IDK why but its just that way. The average new grad in Northern California is $65 - 80. That's the Bay Area / Sacramento. You will live a great life if you make that much in California. Stop saying cost of living when you're only looking at SF or LA there are several cities that are affordable. Do your OWN research. Please. Not to knock your video but if you don't know the state then your information isn't accurate.

For some reason all the times I've been put under I honestly do not think half of the ppl in the room had even graduated yet
Yay, Missouri Nurses!!!!
Wow, that's wild! What part of the country are you in?
Hi nurse Catherine I have a Bachelors in business administration & LPN. What route would you recommend?
LPN to RN comes to mind right away but I guess the real question would be what do you want to do? Work business, work nursing, or a mix of both, or maybe even become an entrepreneur!?
@@Katherine_Ann mix of both
@@Katherine_Ann And I'm not really into entrepreneurship immediately at the moment
Definitely not making near that in Alabama as a Crna
😫😫😫
"With a nursing degree" you say that as if we shouldn't be earning that much. Yes we should. All nurses deserve to be making 6 figures.
CRNAs are making 0ver 300k as new grads in CA right now.
Wow! Insane!
I'm going to start my education for a rn program, but should I go right for a bsn degree. Or should I just go for the rn and try to have a hospital pay for my future bsn degree
Hai Katherine am from Africa Zambia am a trained nurse anaesthetist, how can I apply for a job ad what's the requirements.
Hi! Thanks for your comment! That all depends on where you're looking. You would have to obtain a nursing license to work in America. There are companies and programs that look specifically for foreign educated nurses, I would look into one of them!
Simulation pays! Also really glad my wife is a CRNA. 😂 Great video! #SimTribe
Hi Katherine and all
I am a registered nurse in Ghana with BSN wanting to further my nursing education in US and sit for the NCLEX. Should I apply for the BSN pre licensure program or you have a suitable program for me?
Bridget Bema, enroll with a recruiting Agency, get a job in the US...of course you must pass the NCLEX...enroll for your masters within the first 2 months of your arrival to US. That way, you study and earn
Thank you so much mam 🙌
Don't become a nurse unless you like being treated like garbage and paid just enough to force you to stay in nursing.
May have been a better job when humans took better care of themselves. Not worth it now.
Do CAAs generaly get paid the same as CRNAs? Or does it depend on the practice/state you are in?
Hi Red! I would imagine that is dependent state to state. When I lived in Pennsylvania, CAA were not even a job to be had, but here in Georgia that is a job.
GREAT video! (Mid - Whiffery)
starting nurseing school this fall due to injuries I cant Weld anymore
Awh wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you do well in this new field!
@@Katherine_Ann to be honest wanted to be a nurse to start with just grew up welding and fighting lol
can i still become CRNA if i finish all my master's and doctorate degree in other countries like australia?
Hi Catriona, that's a great question. I'm not 100% sure about that. Make sure to do your research on that!
Thanks I hv a nursing license and I hv an advance diploma in anaesthesia.
Wow, very nice!
How does a nurse virtual career fair work? Do you have sum tips for this. I’ve never even been to a physical career fair.
Hi there! I personally have never attended one, nor heard of this before! I have been to a physical career fair and brought my resume with me and dressed professionally. I also thought of questions to ask ahead of time. Bring questions just as you would to a job interview and dress professionally as well :) Hope that helps!
i am a Canadian nurse but dont have a bachelor in nursing can i still practice nursinf in usa
Hi there! I am not sure, that may be state dependent or even hospital dependent.
Hi the income which u had tell in this video ,is on monthly basis or yearly ?
It's a yearly basis!
@@Katherine_Ann thanks mam
@@riyamalhotra1821 Thank you for watching!
Ma'am the salary only for Govt or include with the privacy
Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts.
Wow, that's impressive! Yeah, when you consider taxes and cost of living it makes sense that you would make that much.
Nice video and informative👍
Hi mam, I am glad to watch your beautiful video and interested me🙏
Dear Mam, I am an Diploma in Nursing&midwifery graduated from india. Having experiences more than 4 years in a hospital in different wards. Moreover, recently working at singapore👌Mam, Now i intend to work at USA as an nurse job? Pls guide and suggest me? Waiting your sweet reply🙏

what is the best way to prepare for NCLEX?
Thanks for the question! You should check out OverLearRN Test Prep on RUclips and Etsy for some helpful resources :)
Nclex test is really frustrating, i can't believe I failed again after studying so hard
I'm really sorry about that but I got used to it until I succeeded, I failed 5 times before I finally passed, It would have been 6 but Mrs Catherina saved me from failing again
I saw someone say she could be a scammer i couldn't stop laughing, really people say a lot of shit these days
hello!!! This is a backdoor we're talking about not some kind of extra classes, you really won't expect her to have Facebook page it's not safe for her
I've heard a lot of good stories about this same woman all over RUclips channels can she really help
It's my first time I'm scared, I don't wanna fail
Does MSN degree in the philippines, credited in the america maam?.
That I am not sure!
CNA and CRNA are two different jobs.
Hi Zita, thanks for your comment. That's correct. The acronym CNA often refers to Certified Nurse Assistant, while CRNA stands for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
@@Katherine_Ann, I am an RN/BSN. 🙂 I live in the suburbs of Dallas. I forgot to thank you for the video . Your husband did a great job doing the research. Have a nice weekend.
@@zitaorosz1975 Thank you, Rita! Have a great weekend!
Step 1 , go to an agency
Cost of living is very high in California. Not a job you do for the money. If you do not have a family or kids and live alone and in a lower income area you might be ok.
Is health science same as nursing major?
No. Health science is a branch of Public health. Not an RN role
@@Internetlo thank you😇
Thank you Katherines husband! lol :-D
Random Question: How does a nurse apply to a speciality? I’m not in nursing school yet, but is it apart of the schooling? How do we match with a program( example if you want to do med surge/ or peds etc.)
Hi there! You just apply to that job posting! Thats it!:) it's quite simple actually!
Nursing is not just money!!! ....but sadly money is a factor for it nowadays.....
Hey Jane, I agree! Nursing is definitely not all about money, if it was, I'd pursue being a CRNA. Money is important and I think it's necessary for us to realize our worth or what the potential for us as healthcare providers can be.
Crna is not all about the money either they get paid a lot because the schooling is hard and competitive to get into.
Shocking to hear Vallejo is highest paying for np. Homes are real cheap over there
Win win!
I was born in Fairfield. Also Vallejo is pronounced Va-Lay-O or for the fancy folks Va-Lay-Ho. Thanks for the info as well and cudos to your hubby for getting us the info.
Try vayaho!,
Dont say "with just the Nursing degree" please. CRNA is very hard degree to achieve with long time training and very competitive to get into
Thanks so much for watching! I sincerely appreciate it! @@ngocdungtranho683

Lol being from Missouri, that part made me lol 😂
Thanks for watching!
These are the truths universally acknowledged. I learned nothing knew from this video. To be different, you could have researched Cardiac Perfusion, RN First Assist to really appeal to those researching educational opportunities.
Thanks for the feedback!
What about Psych wards?
Here the local ward pays well
Cali is separated by Northern and Southern.
Hi Mrs.Ash. As I do appreciate your comment I do want to remind you that all my resources for this video are found in the description of my video.
thank you katty

Suprised that NPs earn more than CNM
You vastly undersold whats involved in attaining the ability to practice in any of those. And those are all advance degrees
Thanks for your feedback Ethan!
You mind as well become a physician assistant and or anesthesiologist
Nothing wrong with pursuing those professions as well!
Yes, but they do require a lot more years of school. Also, those school usually cost more as well.
It all depends on what organization you work for
That's a big part!
Info was relevant and u r so cute 😀
Crnas are making more than Drs!.?
Depends on the kind of MD I suppose!
CRNA takes so long you mine as well just go to medical school and become an anesthesiologist
Does RN can become nurse educator ?
An RN can become a nurse educator. There is a nurse educator degree you can get which is a masters program
Can u get BSN online
Hi Jessica, you can get your BSN online if you already have your RN!
Was anyone surprised pharmacology nursing not on this list.?
there’s no such thing.
Way more schooling than I am willing to do in my 40's.
You still have plenty of time!
It's interesting that we don't really have CRNAs here in Canada
Oh really? Do MDs predominately fill that role?
