A tip for when you don't have a big enough jack: Next time you get a flat while loaded, knock the lugnuts loose on the wheel you have to change, then roll the other wheel on the same side of the trailer that is still holding air up on some cribbing; that should get your flat off the ground so you can change it. Once the good tire is on and the lugnuts are snug, roll back off the cribbing and torque the nuts down all the way with a torque wrench per the axle specs.
Don't give them a reason to ticket you. You were getting unloaded facing oncoming traffic. Any ticket affects your CDL potential...protect your license.
Good point man, appreciate that. I listened to the guy receiving and they said they have to park like that all the time. I said I should probably turn around but he was like nah it wont be long. I need to stick with my gut feeling.
So you should park to get unloaded facing the flow of traffic?
Your book keeping is on point , when you track every penny it keeps you laser focused on your goals ,you know were you need to cut back or step up if need be.
After 20yrs as an OTR O/O we went and got our own authority and have a new f350 and 40ft trailer on order. Looking to do some local and regional runs in my semi retirement. We will also be looking to lease on other drivers as we get thing going. I can sure tell ya guys and gals like you is who we will be looking for as you really seem to have your stuff together and your head screwed on right and tight. Look forward to following along.
Thank you for being so real with us. Keep it up!
Man i like that your being realistic about the profits.
Decent breakdown especially starting off while being leased on. Gives me encouragement for sure
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for watching
@@HotshotMacc i have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel 4x2 is that a good Start up to do hotshot I’m interested I have a Cdl A
i always use 4 chains on a load that require them, one on each corner, and also use the 3 point contact on the chain hook, a former DOT guy told me thats the way it should be , 3 point contact just run your chain down between the rub rail or the round tubes between the stake pockets then under the stake pocket then up and hook to stake pocket. hope you best of luck out there and stay safe.good video.
My Grand dad created the Hotshot business back in the late 70's and early 80's. You sound like your on the right track. If you would ever like to see what the ultimate Hotshot Truck set up and Trailer are I have the full specs and pictures. By todays standards his setup was closer to that of a class 8 with chains and boomers. If your ever interested in more let me know, I will gladly share the info free of charge if you want. His truck had all the capabilities for loading and unloading loads in event customer did not have a forklift nor crane.
That’s great to hear. I will definitely would like to know more about it. You can email me at Tim@hotshotmacc.com
What’s up brotha. Man I like your videos. Keepin it real and easy to understand. I got most of my stuff filed for my own authority. Getting closer to getting a truck and trailer. Based in Oklahoma I’m central enough to hit a lot of nearby states and make some life changes. 👍
What you are doing looks very interesting and I am going to look into this! Awesome job!
Trailer-Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp, The Fast and Easy Way To Change A Trailer's Flat Tire, Holds up to 15,000 lbs, 4.5 Inch Lift (Yellow)
A few thoughts from a non-expert... it's been a while since I had to keep track of things for self-employment. Things you may already be doing:
1: Are dead-head miles accounted for differently than loaded miles for tax purposes, or are all miles lumped together... or does it depend on anything? i.e. is each load is a separate job that you're getting paid for, and miles in-between that you're empty or heading to/from home empty that you're not getting paid for? When I was working for myself doing jobs (non-trucking) in different places, I deducted miles to/from/in-between at the standard rate.
2: Expenses away from home should all be deductible- within reason: food, laundry, hotel during a reset, maybe even the truck wash (maintenance if itemized), etc. Keep track instead of wishing you had.
3: It may be useful to calculate your RPM differently for partials: if- for example- you pick up the first partial and drive 50 miles to pick up the second- that's one RPM, 200 miles with both to drop one off is another (higher rpm), and 40 miles to drop the second- that's another still. It won't change your average at the end of the week, but it might change how you look at what all those miles were actually worth and how the partials are paying. If they're good, you'll have a better feeling than the way you showed them. Or, at least average the total trip miles with the total freight $ (with or without dead-head). If they're good loads, you'll have a better feeling about them than the way you showed them.
Man really appreciate the thorough breakdown! I’m still figuring things out but this definitely help a ton man! Thank you!! 🙏🏽💯
Great video. This is something I’m planning on doing in the future. Thank you for all the helpful information!
I am glad my videos are helpful! Thanks for watching
Thanks bro for the information , this is my first video on hotshot and I love the way u describe it ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
Definitely bro! Glad it helped! 💪🏽💯
Thats a great job i wonder if other truckers keep dis information..im very much enlightened with this excel worksheet..kudos champ💯
Glad it was helpful!
I've had the beads go like that with really tight turns when towing my personal tractor. I'm getting into the business as well. Maybe we'll run into each other some day. Drive safe.
Thank you for doing this.. I’m thinking about driving. This was great content and very helpful.
Thank you! I’m glad it helped!
Sounds like a great week . Lost my job two weeks ago ,, your successes are my drive to get a trailer and get out there. Your not carrying freight ins .? Who are you using for liability ? Ordering more securement . Thanks for the updates ,like your straight forward style .Be safe
Hey James, it wasn’t a horrible week just a bit lower on the rpm. I appreciate your feedback. Sorry to hear about the job man. The freight insurance is cover by the company I’m leased on with. Look forward to seeing you out there! Stay safe.
Guys like you keep moving America upwards. Congratulations man
Great content as always! I watched to get info for a friend wanting to jump into non-cdl
You’re a real one for that brotha!!
Wishing you and your wife the very best, stay safe and God bless and light up your roads.
Stay Strong!
That was a wealth of information worth listening TOO thanks bro....GOD BLESS
Thanks 🙏🏽
Newbee here.
Wanted to thank u for all the info (Real info)!!
You don't find to many ppl filling ppl in on what they make.
Glad it was helpful!
If u don't have a CDL IT DONT NEAN SHIT TO ME.......I DONT RESPECT U
Great video! Not a bunch of nonsense but yet you show every step. Excellent!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad is was helpful!
You should look into getting the trailer aid jack from Amazon. I bought it for my ranch trailer and it works great. Had a blowout with a 10k pound skid steer and worked perfect.
“Trailer-Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp, The Fast and Easy Way To Change A Trailer's Flat Tire, Holds up to 15,000 lbs, 4.5 Inch Lift “
Oh wow that’s good to know. Thank you! Ill added to my amazon list.
As always, great content brother. Keep the videos coming!
Appreciate you always Chris! 💯
How much did it cost to get started awesome Chanel and how long are you away from home any reason you went this route instead of getting a cdl and working for a company? Thanks again
If you net that amount each week you would be about 108k a year. Granted that is working every week and honestly family time has to come in somewhere. Thank you the videos.
If you made 6k in a week you spent atleast 2,500 on def, diesel and food, and most definitely have a payment of some sort due that same week leaving you with 2k plus you need to set aside fuel money for the following week leaving you with 1500 left over cash for yourself…that’s what construction workers, plumbers, electricians w2 employee drivers are bringing home with out the headache of expenses
This was temporary.
macc i see you bro .. i just got setup myself i went all the way authority whole thang...good to see your the inspiration from behind the wheel ...man its a blessing not a curse keep up the good work we see you man ... thats whats up...from mainors hot shot trucking llc
That’s good to hear bro.. Congrats on making it happen and getting out there 💪🏽
I would love to discuss and learn more if I had my CDLs doing hotshot trucking
this was a very informative video thinking about getting into hot shotting so thanks
Your welcome and that you for watching!
Hello Tim , thank you for all you show and share with us, I really appreciate this I leave you my like right here , keeping going brother see you in the next video.
Thanks Dario! That’s much appreciated brotha! Thanks for the support!
You probably have thought abt this but these weekly breakdown videos can always be continuous content for the channel.
Yeah looking in to making it be a regular thing....
@@HotshotMacc right on. You know a lot of people wanna see hands on experience just as much as seeing the numbers. Have a good week
3:40 it's like hey hotshot friend !
Great stuff bro, u on to something keep grinding 🤞🏾
Appreciate that bro!
Thanks boss for your sharing your knowledge
Most definitely 🫡💯
At the end of the year you write off the fuel and interest on your truck payment, food, lodging, etc., right? I mean those are write offs correct? I am thinking about doing non-CDL hotshot, just want to get some more info. How did you learn to do your loads, spreading the weight? Thanks for the content too!
This would be my first year but it’s all based how you set up your business or if you are leased on to a company. DBA, sole proprietorship or LLC. But for the most part everything should be able to be a write off. Meet with a CPA to set up your business and set up a business plan.
I leaned on the job with practice and thankfully I had a friend that I could call.
Thanks for watching bro
So yall guys doing this with just a regular drivers license ?
Hell if so i gotta jump on that
Been watching your videos and you are very helpful, sincere. I have a question for you now knowing what you know...Would you switch trucks? Would you use different tires for your truck or trailer? If you could start over from the beginning with your present knowledge what would you change? Trailer, truck, tires, options on equipment? Is there anything on your truck that you don't have but you wish you did? Anyway, well done with your driving and videos.
Thank's for watching and the support. I love my truck and it has definitely help me grow and learn the business. Once I get my CDL then I might look into possibly upgrading. I just got started with what I already had. I didn't purchase this truck with the intentions of Hotshoting. All great questions I may just do a video on it.
I rocks with you for the honesty
Thanks bro 🙏🏽
Good stuff. I am waiting for my 2022 Ram 3500 crew dually big horn to come in. It’s sitting at the Baltimore port. I am in South Jersey. They are taking it to a dealership near Charlotte NC. So I am going to take a flight to there and drive it home. Shame I can’t find a small load to pick up and bring this way to pay for the fuel and tolls.
Loving the content, very informative bro
🔥🙏🏽
Macc, love your content. Considering non-cdl with my '22 Ram 2500. Help me justify this: if your weekly net averages $2,250 and you're putting that amount of mileage on your truck, it seems there's very little meat left in the bone. Meaning, you net $117k at the end of the year, but your $70k truck has nearly 200,000 miles on it. How many miles are feasible on these trucks? Is the equipment cost too high for it to be really profitable?
theres plenty of trucks that can do what this truck does that arent 70k.
Carry the loan and keep trading in every 2 years 🤷♂️
Great video. I have my CDL (class 1 in Canada) and been wanting to get into this but have no idea where to start.
Thanks 🙏🏽. You are right here, that’s a start!

Its a Lone star bro! And I appreciate that brotha! I’m about doing the right thing man! 💪🏽💯
Bless up brother, keep up the videos! What type of truck do you use for hauling and how does it do??
I appreciate your videos brotha
Thanks for the support!
Nice spread sheet, knowledge of cost is key to success
🙏🏽🔥 Thanks
tire bulge was the tight turn WITH full weight of car on rear of trailer remember the 60/40 rule
That’s exactly what it was. Definitely a rookie mistake and having 10 ply tires! Live and learn
15:00 this is so helpful to be able to start hotshot
So how exactly do you do these w/o CDL? Is it because GVWR is under 26k pounds? I have my class B permit at the moment, with my main goal of class A to drive truck. Also dig the humility during the flat man. Might've been pre-trip, might not, but I can dig the humility friend. Keep grindin!
Yes, sr. GVWR has to be under 26,000K in order to operate non-cdl.
i was running same set up went threw a scale house in kentucky and got shut down my trailer was 35 k gvw and my truck was a 08 duramax .. i had nothing on the trailer ... they said because my trailer could haul over 26k i had to have a cdl ... i have it now .. pretty sure i still have a ticket in kentucky from 2009 i just never went threw that state again
do you half to run log books as non-cdl ? im thinking about maybe getting back into it i have a cdl but no logs id let it go if i could lol
Sounds like you have a trailer with duals. But the combined gvwr cannot be more than 26k. Your setup wasn’t the same it sounds like
You have to run an ELD for any commercial equipment. Cdl or non cdl
Brother got the seamoss and Bladderwrack. Very smart man!
Yessir! Gotta get my minerals in 💪🏽💯
Hey man I think it was a great video very well broken down loved it. I'm not truckn but I'm very interested. That Escrow account is a great deal.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes indeed. Escrow for the win.
So I have a f-250 and for sometime now been wanting to get started but times have been tough. Been doing shut down work across country till I get myself in the situation I can start. My biggest thing that’s got me back and forth is the advantage to non advantage of CDL and wondering since I’ve watched a lot of your videos. Is anyone able to travel cross country doing hotshot work without CDL or are you able to maybe bc living in Texas? Haven’t been to sure how fast I can start up bc of this dilemma and hoping you could shed some light on it for me or anyone for that matter! Thanks and stay safe on the road bro!
Hey macc would you do a video on your equipment for hot shot…what straps what dunnage, what tools what tarps what chains what binders what corner protectors Anything else thanks
I already have a video on that bro. Here is the link ruclips.net/video/wxnUjwsIomk/видео.html
Also if you check my description I have more resources on this that can be useful if you are thinking about starting in the industry.
The video was too hard 🔥
Appreciate that my man! 🙏🏽💪🏽💯
nice video!!! im a female getting in the industry..... im in houston and just bought my trailer. its only 26ft, that all i could afford
Gotta start somewhere! 🔥 more power to you ✊🏽
Great information. Stay safe out on road.

Thanks for Sharing, Stay 💪 Strong
Great work tim, break away, 30pct,to high.get out on your own.be safe.
Awesome video great information
Thanks bro!
like you content. Question - would keeping track of your food bill come in handy as a tax write off and the end of the year? As an accountant you may be leaving some money on the table, just a thought. Be blessed
I heard $60 per day per diem for truckers. How true?
I appreciate the heads up on this! I keep track of my meal expenses in quickbooks. I just decided not to put it on my spreadsheet for the videos.
Sounds about right
@@HotshotMacc You are inspirational . Continue the work boss man .

May I give you my email for some information I plan on starting up hotshot in July August at the lates @HotshotMacc
I like the way you got your spread sheet can you by any chance send an example so i can copy it?
I’m trying to have the wife get that created so we can share it. Should be soon. Sign up to our newsletter on our website so you can be notified when it’s available 🫡
Look at GLADIATOR tires for your trailer…. Last longer and you should be able too get them at most SOUTHERN TIRE and they are fairly inexpensive. Also, $1.50 should be your break even point anything over your doing good, under you are loosing money.
Appreciate that info man and definitely thats a good rpm to be at. I’m doing my best to stay up there!
Thanks for sharing!

Are u working whit a dispatcher or you look for your loads??? And where u get in it?
Be safe out there...i love your videos

Thanks.
Rates suck picking up loads in FL. Bringing to FL is better.
Keep Grinding Brother Keep Grinding. Honor and respect to you be safe🙏🏽
Hey I appreciate that brotha! Thanks for the support man 💪🏽💯
Love your content was just wondering how to lease or get with a company or dispatch to get started, I’m retired and thought this would be a good way to travel and make some extra cash 😅 Thanks
Hi, I have various videos on my channel that discuss both subjects. Please check them out. Thanks for supporting the channel.
NEXT TIME YOU HAVE A FLAT, ROLL THE NON-FLAT TIRE on top of a BLOCK OF WOOD, this will take the WEIGHT off of the other AXLE making it easier to JACK IT UP!
That’s good feed back thanks bro!
Looks fun. I got a f450 and a trailer. I got a twic card. Anyone hiring? Perfect driving record
You have to find a company to lease onto for less then 30% that's killing you.
That does seem like a lot!
That's average when they cover insurance! There's a lot that goes on when you are lease on and thats the price I pay while I am learning the business. So far from what I have research that price is competitive between 20%-30% it all depends if you are coming out of pocket for insurance or the company is paying for it. A mean shoot at me if you know any other company with a better rate including insurance.
you my dawg still, cant wait to be on them highways with you! And hope to someday run into you!
We definitely will one day brother! I’ll hit you up tomorrow bro!
@@HotshotMacc sounds good to me. 10-4!
Keep them coming 💪👊🇺🇸💰
Appreciate the support my guy! 💪🏽💯
Love all the videos. I was taking with my wife about doing this and her question is where would I sleep. I looked at your setup and wondered how feasible would it be to mount a roof top tent onto of the goose neck area. It would think that might be more comfortable. What are your thought?
Thanks for watching. I’m not sure about the tent options but I’ve seen some creative builds on top of the neck. The main sleeper in these trucks though are in the back with removing the seats and building a bed. I did a video on my set up
Love your content 👍 How do you get started with a lease or get with someone who does the dispatching ? I am retired and thought this would be good way to travel and make a little extra cash. 😅 Thanks
Not a bad week bro great job
I live in Houston what is the name of the company you lease from and the address pls
Thanks bro. The company is hotshot107.com
That’s good money(to me), but after taxes, expenses, insurance, etc…., what did you actually get home with, and how many hours??? Thanks 🙏
IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE THIS I JUST REGISTERED MY BUSINESS TODAY AND NEED GUIDANCE ON GETTING STARTED. THANK YOU AHEAD OF TIME !!!!
you have to be thankful we make in a week what most people make a month and what third world country makes in a year
New to your channel bruh 😎 dope videos am 28 and looking into this business. Just tired of working for someone else you feel me. Just not sure if I wanna do Non CDL or CDL.
Welcome and thanks for watching!. My suggestion just research as much as you can about the business and make sure it's something you will be willing to do! There's a lot go sacrifices that come with the lifestyle but doable. Good luck to you bro!
A true inspiration 👏
Thank you brother! 🙏🏽💯
How can Geico insuarance can be only 35 bucks per week? I thought insurance is the big killer in this business. I just bought a new 3500 ram dually tradesman. Currently paying personal auto insurance to progressive at $150 / month. When I inquired to another insurance company for a commercial auto insurance with my VIN, they gave a $16K / year quote, with first payment being $6K. Roughly $1300 payments / month.
What am I missing here? Can I use my personal (not commercial) progressive auto insurance for an up to 26K lbs Non-CDL hauling business if I lease under a DOT company? Thanks
That was just my personal insurance while I was leased on. The company covered the commercial liability and cargo insurance. I now pay about $1300 for commercial insurance for our own authority.
Was up great video
