So the lt1 or lt-1 moniker has been used 3 times. In 1970 the 350 in the split bumper z28 Camaro had double hump heads, a new camshaft and a winters cast aluminum dual plane intake. You have center bolt valve covers so it's not that. In 1994-1996 there was a "gen 2" 350 called an lt1 (I forget which is lt1 and which is lt-1 so they will be used interchangeably) and what makes it gen 2 is a camshaft driven water pump and a front mount distributor in front of the water pump. It's port fuel injected with a front mounted throttle body. You definitely don't have one of these. But with a good exhaust and open air cleaner they are about 345hp and would also have a serpentine belt system unique to the lt1 because it doesn't turn the water pump. The heads and block are unique as there is an extra water channel in the block that sends the water up to the heads before the cylinders. You probably have a truck engine or perhaps if it actually has more than 250hp a zz3 or zz4 crate engine. The 3rd lt1 would be the modern c8 Corvette engine with direct injection, otherwise similar to an LS style engine and shares basically no parts with the previous iterations.. The oil leak is probably coming from the valve covers or perhaps the "China walls" where the intake meets the engine block. The factory would put rubber or cork here. The rubber could swell and the cork can dry out and harden. Most racecar guys will used a toughened silicone such as ultra black or "the right stuff" or a modern OEM style gasketless sealant. You could also use window weld urethane but you're going to have a hard time taking it off later. You just build up a thick bead. You can have a .200" gap here to fill, don't be shy. Most of these engines won't make a lot of top end power till you change the cam and valve springs and if you have positive valve seals you might need high clearance retainers and valves without the extra seal grooves. But even with a decent cam you might not make much power over 5500-6000 with stock heads. A single plane intake might help for 6000-7000 rpm but can lose torque and won't help as much as a better set of heads. How fast do you want to go? Is this part of the Paul senior controversy? Are you having a drag race? Or just think a V8 motorcycle is cool?
Wow 😮such a knowledge storehouse hahaha I can sum it up in one sentence maybe two...it's NOT a late 90's model Vette 350 because the phased out distributors in 1990 😂 so it's not an LS nor an LT
@MarcusSandoval-kx2th it's just a regular GM crate. Last of the non injection motors were in the c3 vettes. C4 had crossfire injection in 1984,then tuned port (L98) then Lt1 in 1992 which were 300hp, 330tq. The LT4 in the collector edition and grand sport made 330hp. The LT5 in the zr1 made 375hp
dought its a ZZ motor probly a TBI replacement eng. 32:19 HP 189 @ 3150 Rpm .. TQ 332 @ 2300 Rpm ! The motor being a replacement 90's crate i fiuger is a TBI 350 with 193 swirlport head , basicly a replacement trk motor , my guess crank HP was about 240-260 hp
I’m not a motorbike mechanic but I’ve done some work on older carbureted V8s. If I had to guess I’d say it’s a 340 hp crate engine but you need to know if being a single gear it’s a 1:1 otherwise being on the dyno won’t ever give you real numbers.
The lt1 had fuel injection and a special electronic distributor originally and different heads with reverse flow cooling, but it was still just a 350 sbc, so you can put regular carbureted manifolds on it with new heads and a distributor
@@waynesmith-r8c Exactly. It's a 340hp crate engine which on a chassis dyno like this, should probably pull close to 300hp. Add in a tiny, old clogged up air filter and poor tuning you get around 240.
You can put a regular 350 intake on a lt1. What you're mentioning relates to the fuel injection and ignition system but you can run an old school setup. We did this exact setup in a 1950 chevy truck and it definitely felt slower 😂 @waynesmith-r8c
I think that last dyno pull, i saw the bike coolant temp at like 150 degrees. It will never make power running that cold. Probably another small block Chevy with no thermostat. Running that cold does one thing, wear cylinders out. If you like smoky , low power engines, definitely do not run a tstat...
Lapel mics rock. If I remember correctly, his is the same as mine...it's made by DJI. Rode makes one called the Wireless Go that's really good, too...had that one before getting my DJI one.
Would Love to see a performance build on this! No supercharger or anything. Motor work, all motor work… it’s definitely not running like it should. Hopefully it still has all the compression it needs
Go to boss sauce many years ago, 350 horse job ran like a top. It’s kind of scary at first, but you know something like a champ handles like a dream very fast.
Hey Sean, you might need a good quadrajet guy to make sure that it's running properly on the secondaries. I would bet that the air flaps are only partially opening and the spring pressure needs adjusted. Your secondary lockout might also be keeping the secondaries from opening.
I know what Q-Jet secondary's sound like....I never heard them open. I would junk that Q-jet for a 600 CFM Holley.....Good power and good throttle response up to 6000 RPM. Speaking of throttles: I would junk that scary spring return throttle cable setup for a modern push-pull.......... Turbo? That's just dumb.
@@bobsullivan5714 I have nothing at all against Holley vacuum secondary carbs, but if I were going to make swap on that motorcycle I would go with a double pump 600 and aggressively curve the distributor timing. I doubt that motor makes power to 6000 rpm. As far as a carb swap goes, an intake manifold swap to go along with it would be best because a restrictive adapter would be necessary on the existing manifold and an adapter would also take up very limited space for air cleaner clearance. A Quadrajet can be tuned sufficiently. I think air cleaner restriction is biggest concern. No better carb than a tuned Holley, though, vacuum OR mechanical secondary😊
Honestly could just be the air filter, the fact that it was dripping oil could mean that the plugs are getting fouled in the cylinder further reducing power. Obv little things like tire pressure and whether or not the carbs are clean also apply. Also, is it possible that the advertised horsepower is at the crank and not at the wheel?
Fer sure the air cleaner as far as horsepower goes, and quickenning the advance curve in the distributor should make it much "livelier" with the single speed trans. The exhaust is probably the biggest restriction and you're pretty limited for space on the motorcycle. It most likely would take an intake, exhaust, and cam change to make 345 hp- and definitely a less restrictive air cleaner. The problem with increasing horsepower levels in that manner is that it will probably raise the power range to a higher rpm making the single speed drive more sluggish at low speeds. It would be fun to attempt a max hp Boss Hoss, but if mine I would do something about the air cleaner, a straight through muffler exhaust, and quicken the ignition timing. That probably won't be near 345 hp, but 250-275 tuned hp with torque right off idle powering a 1000 lb. vehicle should be good for a thrill.

Bet that tiny air filter on a V8 gets plugged fast...lol. Might want an automatic reverse air pressure cleaning system to occasionally blow out the plugged air filter to reduce replacement need so often.
Remember a car engine is different than a bike. Will have about a 15% loss in horsepower through the automatic trans. So at the flywheel it truly is close to 325 like the man said
hp loss is very specific to drivetain style, so while 15% is the universal number, thats in a much different drive train then an automatic car then this bike. simple light weight belt drive and 1 speed trans. vs a much more complicated and heavier trans of a car plus all the drive shafts etc you'd see in a cars driveline

That looks like a throttle body or votec 350 with a carb put on it from a 90s . That motor needs a lot done to let it breath. They come stock rated at 190-260 horsepower in the truck depending on which year and model.
The heads are stock cast aluminum which would be L98 or lt1 with cam lt1 would’ve been a waste of time where a gen1 sbc l98 or tbi/vortec 350 would’ve been a better budget option, also also if it was a vortec 350 there’s no way someone with any sbc knowledge would’ve swapped vortec heads for l98 aluminum heads that flow worse

50 free hp in the air cleaner. old school flip the cover on a Qjet.
The lt1 had fuel injection and a special electronic distributor originally and different heads with reverse flow cooling, but it was still just a 350 sbc, so you can put regular carbureted manifolds on it with new heads and a distributor
the LT1 also had an optispark on the front of the block and different front dress with no hei, this isnt an lt1,its a 90s crate engine
@@waynesmith-r8c You can run a distributor and regular SBC manifold on an LT1...
I think that last dyno pull, i saw the bike coolant temp at like 150 degrees. It will never make power running that cold. Probably another small block Chevy with no thermostat. Running that cold does one thing, wear cylinders out. If you like smoky , low power engines, definitely do not run a tstat...
I find most Chevy owners who remove the tstat are covering up a bad head gasket or plugged cooling ports for overheating
I never new that but I'm just an old driveway wrencher.
Cold bore wear
It's also running stupidly rich, at least partly because of that low temp. The Qjet isn't helping. They're finicky but work well....when they work
No stat caused radical temp readings in a v8
For me.
When you first started riding, I thought you were just rolling without the engine on, that mic is insane!
“Chipmunks! Download, now!” Is from the movie “Heavyweights”. I’m looking forward to my free hat. Thanks. 😂
This is a cleansing hike. Father sky, mother earth, and your dear old uncle Tony.
Hey Sean, you might need a good quadrajet guy to make sure that it's running properly on the secondaries. I would bet that the air flaps are only partially opening and the spring pressure needs adjusted. Your secondary lockout might also be keeping the secondaries from opening.
I hear VICE GRIP GARAGE has a holley sniper system to install on that bike!!!!
Yep yep. He needs a real carb guy.
@@bobsullivan5714
I have nothing at all against Holley vacuum secondary carbs, but if I were going to make swap on that motorcycle I would go with a double pump 600 and aggressively curve the distributor timing.
Oh man, I can't wait to see the build off with you and Paul!

Heavyweights. lol. Loved that movie
This bike doesn't really have a "transmission". Just a clutch and reduction gear...
Different In America yes. in Europe you could buy a manual performance car and not lose the 15% either
Dude, that motorcycle has a lot more in it.. i wish you can make some upgrades in the engine, in the intake and specially on the trans! i think that's what limits the power delivery, i love the bike, the dyno session was awesome, hope to see more content of this motorcyble bud, love it!

Any way.. much love brother, keep twisting that wrist..
NO TURBO!!! LS swap it. 6.2 all aluminum actual 400 hp.
That square body Chevy in David's shop looks really cool . A neighbor of mine had three Boss Hoss bikes. The last one was the fastest one they made back in the 2001.

Lucid Sapphire, Rimac also. My Subaru traps 155+ and is spinning 4 slicks until it crosses the beam. That bike is going to have all sorts of traction issues with that trap speed.
Dodge did that in Florida, 50 degrees out, pro driver, bla, bla... Yet I have yet to see any vids of a private racer posting vids of anything even close since. They are pretty fast and can be made into a raging beast with proper mods and excellent tune.
