James, I’ve been watching this channel for multiple years now from near the beginning. You have an awesome vision and I know that you’ll find your way to the endpoint of each part of project 58. I do have concerns though that you might have a little bit of tunnel vision when it comes to certain things. Firstly, the thing that so many people have been mentioning from the very beginning of project 58: There needs to be mold remediation in the boat before you construct more things for the mold to attach to. Another concern is the fact that the galley cabinetry is mostly freestanding from the wall built with the facia first and no solid framing aside from batten glued to the facia. Typically how you build a floor cabinet is you frame it out and then put the facia and countertop on. Anchoring the whole thing to the wall should be a priority. Another concern: using L brackets to take the strain off of the thinner bits is something I cannot stress that needs to be done, especially around the drawers. Even cabinets in houses that sit on a concrete slab have L brackets to keep them square & reduce strain on the screw & glue joints. I know you are working full-time and taking care of the kids and managing two whole boats while building one out to replace the other. I know it can be a lot to think about and to get your head around. I just want the best for you and Kids and the future of you living aboard project 58. I cannot stress enough how much the children should not be on board that boat until thorough mold remediation is undertaken. I know I am coming off very very strong here with recommendations and opinions, but it is only because I give a damn I hope you can understand that. Please take care and keep on trucking with Project 58. I believe in your ability to see it completed.

You don't need a door in front of the washing machine. I recommend you remove that floor baton in front of the washing machine and scoot the machine forwards flush to the exit to make it more accessible and look better. Also, when you put the floor tiles down you can install tiles in and under the machine and maybe up the sides to make it a proper wet safe area because eventually the washing machine will spill some water. Same for the fridge.

in the bottom movable shelves , drill a hole in one so you can push your finger into it and lift it out . The whole kitchen is amazing and sleek James , Im well impressed .

James, you need to put 3 metal washers under your stove fan just to lift it off the hot plate. I have a warp 5 and this is what they recommended. The hot plate is too hot for your fan.

James your handy work is looking fab...
The stove fan .. you could always get one of them cast iron ,kettle stands .. you use to stop pans/kettles ,scorching your kitchen top ... that say 1cm clearance ,maybe enough to protect the fan from too much heat..
Plenty of people go this route... as its a working scientific way that truely works .. cheaper than replaces fans over and over ... pardon the pun ... give it a whirl

You seem to be making it difficult to repair /replace the washing machine and / or to fix any leaks. I think the idea of pulling it forward flush with the cabinet front and doing away with the door would look ok and be more practical not to mention making loading and unloading easier.

On your washing machine door. Have you thought of putting a cover (door) held by magnets like you did in, I can't remember where, in Sloe patrol. So you can just remove the door out of the way while the machine is working. Then the door isn't in the way of the walk through. I can imagine getting very annoyed at that door and having to dance around it when I realise I've left some washing else where and have go and get it .

Absolutely love the way your channel community has come together with suggestions for you, and compliments on how your vision is taking shape. I think the suggestion about the magnets 🧲 is a good one to look into. I also agree with metal disks or shims under the fan. Will you have room, maybe under the dinette for a pull out freezer? I saw a video by a marina selling a Narrowboat, I think, where there was a low freezer that was on wheels that fit out of sight under the eating area. Nice clip of you outside. Take care.

James just a thought but you can get runners for the washing machine to sit on..
Which lock in place..when you pull out or push back the machine...
Anyway James keep going as you are not far away from the finish line now..

Hi James, Vertically split doors in front of washing machine? It'll be more practical when both doors open to reveal the machine, but their narrow width won't block the galley when open, or conflict with the machine door when it's open/loading clothes etc. The smaller doors will also evenly distribute their lighter weight onto their respective mounting upright, causing less strain, or movement on your cabinet fronts. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. It's all coming together nicely

Galley's coming along really well, you've done a great job James. I'm not sure if it's too late now, but some led strips running on the underside just above the kick plate would give an amazing soft light corridor, would emphasize the effect of the curves and flow of the Galley.

James, what about a roll top door in front of the washer/dryer? It could go under the counter. It would save on space. - Martha

Did you say counter worktops flush to base unit. Id overhang them just over an inch if you can or if you fit shorter router a capillary Grove underneath tops to disperse any water running down units?

James, you should be wearing gloves when handling the raw fiberglass. Particles may worm their way into your skin, very hard to remove, if you even can. Keep up the good work! It's very impressive so far🙂

I still can't see how you'll access the cloths washer detergent/softener tray, with it sitting so far back?
I just had a thought (likely too late); maybe place the cloths washer on sliders so when you need it, open the door, pull it out far enough to access the detergent/softener tray?

    • @YaaLFH
      @YaaLFH 5 месяцев назад +3

Because we in general have smaller fridges here, we don't have food deserts so people don't need to stock up for a month when they do the trek to get groceries.
Plus there's not exactly a lot of space on narrowboats.
