  • After today all the pieces will be cut and in place for the main galley units. I have the girls with me so it’s not all boaty stuff for me today

From a cabinetmaker. I just had a look at what you have done, and will make some recommendation that will save you a whole heap of frustration and grief in any future similar projects
    1. Build a full frame for you kitchen.
    2. Where you are going to have rounded convex and concave corners, then round the corners of the battens so they actually support those corners you want to have, and then you wont have a problem with the board spitting.

James, I repeat - never cut straight lines with a jig saw! Use the circular saw!

The James fest we have had of late is brilliant, i have to say you have an eye for detail plus the learning curve, pardon the pun from Sloe Patrol has given you and us satisfaction. Bloody Brill mate .

Keep going James .it looks like you are on the homeward stretch with your kitchen cabinets..
For someone who has limited knowledge and tools you are doing a brilliant job..
Anyone who has fitted out a narrow boat .. knows that everything is bespoke as no two boats are the same...
When you erect a wall in a boat you will find that both sides are are slightly different from one another..
Unfortunately there are a few that think that they can cut one side of a board and use it as a template for the other side ????
There are no completely vertical or horizontal areas on a narrow boat.. which a few tend to forget..
Anyway James keep safe and well mate..

James don't forget that at some point you will need to access the washing machine filter at the bottom of the machine, which will have water behind it. But hey! it looks great.

I cant believe how nasty people are being. Hes not a joiner and lets face it most people these days panic with a flat pack kitchen, let alone building anything from scratch.

How about fitting battens on the inside of the cupboard then screw them in to the worktop to keep the fridge gap??

  • @garylinker69
    @garylinker69 3 месяца назад +3

When you set top on units, fix them so gap is held open. Simplest fix 😊

Admire your work ethics, but you are going to have future issues as the cupboards have no structure to them.
The damp will have a field day and the units are going to warp etc.

I wondered if you had considered just using the very same plywood to frame the drawer fronts in place of the mahogany? you have made such a great job with the wonderful grained plywood , it would look much cleaner if you used plywood and the detail come from any handles you fix on .

Just use fibreglass in the bends. Once set they will be rock solid like the rest you have done

Please make sure that you obsessively seal all the edges, both of the ply and also the white chipboard stuff.

Just attach the door with a magnet. That way you can pull it off whenever u do laundry. Not like it would be open all the time.

Hi James. Love your channel and its looking really good. As a thought - have you considered continuing the work surface across the top of the fridge? Easier to clean and batons below will secure the sides of the fridge. Good luck and best wishes.

Hi James just an observation have you thought about the access to the filter at the front of the washing machine ? It looks to be stopped by the wood at the front, might be worth putting a gap in now rather than wait till you need access and have to cut things then.

Just an idea for the door, how about hinging it both sides and cutting it in half?

where the fridge is to go , you say you want to prise the sides of the cupboards apart , but without the length of wood , how about when you put the worktop on , you add 2 angle brackets so you wont see the fixings and they can keep the sides apart and be fixed to teh underside of the work top ?

Hi Allanrichardson1672 This is not a video about how to build a kitchen as I see it. but more about how a well-educated man chooses to build his narrowboat. So maybe you, as a world champion, can start your own vlog and show those who are interested in how a kitchen is built!

I've just watched your latest episode. The kitchen looks great. But I have noticed is the kick plate in front of the washing machine, is it removable? Otherwise once you put the kitchen top on you will not be able to get the washing machine out if it Break's down
