It’s time to block out most of the light by erecting my first bulkhead inside the boat and to get the final position for the pocket door #diy #like #work
A couple of inch diameter holes through top of door. Threaded rod down from wheely rollers in track feeding into vertical holes in door down to the inch holes where you can spin a nut on. Make a couple of bungs to cover the holes later on.
Hi James. This may be my 1st comment, though I have been with you from the beginning! I fitted my boat 15 years ago, and your videos bring the memories flooding back. I sometimes wish to do another project, but I know what long hard work it is! You are doing an amazing job, and thank you for making such excellent vlogs. All the best.
Inspiration for all who want to referb a narrow boat James . excellent advice , dad details .of how to make decisions of how to set out projects. Keep safe and well mate
We have sliding doors on Tranquility and to keep the doors stable we have nylon guides on the floor so the door has a groove at the bottom which it sits on, if you get what I mean..👍
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt yes just in the cavity to the edge not across the walkway, works well stops it rattling makes a nice guide. Cheers Arthur
Scrap the din rail and use unistrut. The bottom of the door needs a strip which runs in a plastic block in your pocket, stops the door flapping about and doesn’t rub on the pocket sides or you can use 2 rollers
when you do fix the bulkhead , consider placing a strip of either felt or short head brush strip to stop the door from moving like you demonstrated at 5.50
James, I haven’t got the know how to praise or criticise. But I normally watch your videos and think, really? And then it makes sense. You somehow come across as a shoot from the hip kind of guy but actually know exactly what you doing. Keep it up mate 👍🏻
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt And that’s why we love watching you. Most blokes are somewhere in between and love it when it suddenly makes sense so we can say “ see I told you so” lol Keep,it up mate
Yo James looking neat !!!! The door sway can be easily solved .....!!!! You have a router ! Check . You are putting uprights to support wall .... check !! Get some cheap small roller wheels ,you'd put on back of bedside cabinet ...the static kind , not multi directional... Sink em into uprights to required depth both sides .... or spring mount em ,so screws used to fix em in , can be adjusted to let spring push roller to door !!
James if you don't have a pillar drill use a piece of rebated stock. Place you drill bit in the corner of the rebate. It will be square both ways. Hope this helps
I assume the door will just be off the floor by however many millimetres it takes to fit the base wheels? Would fitting door brushes along the bottom on both sides do to hide the wheels and create a barrier against the transfer of air/heat under the door once clossed?
Have you thought about latching mechanism to keep the door closed or keep it stowed in pocket? Also: a recessed guide in the floor might be good to take some bracing force off the hanger rail. The less force that is on that rail the better.
Simple pillar drill jig... cut a 25mmx25mm corner off a short length of 2x2 then shorten that length to leave you a small L-shape and run your drill bit down the internal corner.
one observation mate, when the door is in the cavity how are you gonna pull it out to close it? a handle on the end of the door will hit the opposite wall? perhaps a side handle (on the door face) with small cut outs in the wall to access it?
Just watching the video now. Aren’t you going to have to hang the door before you install the plywood facing? How are you going to get the rollers into the track? This looks tricky to me.

The hardest working narrowboat channel out there - by a country furlong.

Bulkhead is looking good James, excellent work
Good effort James. A small piece of trim solves many problems. 😎
New home here you come James ! Exciting times !! X

Hello there
Thanks for your lovely comment and I’m glad you are able to reminisce from my videos
Have a great weekend

Thanks James absolutely fascinating watching you build this boat.
Love watching you figure this out. BTW - these doors will prohibit any sneaking. 😊
Yeah I did think the same 😂
We have sliding doors on Tranquility and to keep the doors stable we have nylon guides on the floor so the door has a groove at the bottom which it sits on, if you get what I mean..👍
Yeah I’ve seen that. I might do that inside the cavity but not across the open floor - is that what you have/mean ? Ta

Wooooo love the idea James
Well done James, as with Sloe Patrol you are doing a great job!
Muchos thanks and cheers for watching

Evening young James. It’s always good watching you turn your ideas 💡 into reality 👍🏻
Looks good!
Well done James you do such good work always no you will get there the oldies 👍🤗
Good job as usual James 👍

There’s a bit of shooting from the hip and a bit of planning. Most things are somewhere in between

Great video
Always enjoy your progress, I am sure it will look great when all is done, it will be a nice home when finished.
Well done you! That is so impressive.
Wow, it's coming together so quickly....it looks great!
good vid nice work thanks lee
Fantastic to hear and watch as you put your first bulkhead up James . its ALL coming together.
Cheers pal

Great video mate, well thought out and a great job. Well done. You could carve a handle into the side of the door.
Runners on the base of the door is a good thought , and again you could place felt on it .

For the BSS you will need high /low ventilation when door is closed. So small gaps top and bottom good.
I know that’s the case for external doors / didn’t know about internal ones.
I assume the door will just be off the floor by however many millimetres it takes to fit the base wheels? Would fitting door brushes along the bottom on both sides do to hide the wheels and create a barrier against the transfer of air/heat under the door once clossed?

Oh no, he is doing that thing with the jig saw again! You can't cut straight lines with a jig saw. Use the round saw!
Simple pillar drill jig... cut a 25mmx25mm corner off a short length of 2x2 then shorten that length to leave you a small L-shape and run your drill bit down the internal corner.
good luck
Ply the top off the rail along the wood less movement
James..Don't forget you have to have some way of pulling the door across so it can't go inside the frame?
magnets at the end of the door (hidden) to keep it open and shut
💜💙💚

Hi James, just wondering how you will reach the door when it is hidden within the bulkhead wall?
Good to see stuff going in now 🙂
Hi , thinking about your door. Why not have the fixing below the track and fit a pelmet to cover fixings to the door
Oops, for nearly half the video (10 minutes), I thought the opening was on the cameras left, but you're indicating it's on the right? ;-)
This was the bit I was struggling with, once you fix the boggies to the door slab how do you get the wheels into the enclosed track. 🤔
What if you attach a thin sealing strip in the opening between the walls to limit the swings of the door?
👍👌❤️🇨🇦
the ceiling panels will hide any minor gaps?
They better do 😂
Just watching the video now.
Aren’t you going to have to hang the door before you install the plywood facing?
How are you going to get the rollers into the track?
This looks tricky to me.
You’re two steps ahead of me 😊👍
I think I’ve cracked it now mentally - now to try to make it so
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Good man. 👍
How are you going to pull the door if it goes fully into the pocket ?
It will be right there with some kind of handle type thing
Don't forget to wish Marlon a happy birthday Nov. 10th
How did you know it was his birthday ?

My mistake reviewed video with Marlon I was thinking (wrongly) that he was a Marine. US Coast Guard instead. Need to check facts first.
