Yet another stunning video very informative I have to say that you never disappoint .
Fitting the heater has come just in time with the weather changing as it did. today I woke up to a hard frost on my vehicle..
As far as I remember this has happened early .. this year..
Anyway James keep up with your excellent work on refurbing your boat ..it is an inspiration to all who intend refurbing a boat..
Safety first .and no cutting corners is the right way to go..
Anyway fela I am glad to see that you are safe and well.
Perhaps you could find work .. making improvements to narrow boats..as I have made a good living in the past doing exactly that..I have recently retired ..
And still get inquiries from all sorts of boaters concerning refitting all sorts of boats..as for advertising your services .??? Your videos are a testament to any potential clients..
I am looking forward to the day you have finished your home .as I believe you will be hard pressed to find a better fitted out boat.
If what I see is finished to the highest standards that you have shown so far..

Hi James, can I suggest getting a spare thermocouple for the unit. Back in the days when gas boilers had pilot lights and thermocouples we used to sell(managed & worked in plumbers merchants for nearly 20 years) lots of them as they don't last forever. They always seem to go on the coldest of days as well. Don't worry they last year's but getting a new one won't be as easy popping to your nearest plumbers merchant anymore.

Thanks James great video. Paul fitted our stove in 2021 and we love it. It is easy to light and keeps us warm. Just a couple of small points .....when it is on low it runs sooty and soots up the window ...we wonder if yours will ....so we chuck a cleaning tablet in it from time to time....also on windy days diesel smoke sometimes comes into the boat. Thanks for the money off link as we might upgrade the heat cage.

I’m glad that after a couple years in you’re still happy with yours. Cheers for the heads up - I’ll keep an eye. Paul mentioned on windy days there could be a bit of blow back. Do you keep yours on all the time ?

    • @alansmith8102
      @alansmith8102 11 месяцев назад

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt As continuous cruisers we move more than the minimum once a fortnight and we tend to switch it off when cruising. It's not nice having diesel fumes blowing into you as you move. Good thing is the engine heats the calorifier that in turn heats the radiator system (a little bit) so the radiators are partially warm when we come to switch back on. Our system can take a while to get to properly warm. We tend to keep it on low overnight when it is properly cold.
We were interested to see the new heating mesh on yours. I have emailed Lockgate to see if we can upgrade ours. Ours has a seperate mesh then a kind of ring that has to balance on the burner pot. We find it a bit fiddly. Finally.....I suggest you google "diesel Stove cleaning tablets". Some how or other they help burn away the excess soot in the pot and up the flue.

On Slow Patrol did you have any issues with boart safety having the gas hob & gas line so close to the multifuel stove? I guess this installation may have the same issue. It says to ensure the gas line is away from sources of combustion so I'd expect having the fire and gas cooker back to back was a no-no but... Asking because I am about to do the same thing. I can move the fire to the other corner of the cabin if it is an issue but don't want to cut holes for the flue if I may need to move it.

Toasty, James, but no good for toasting. ☹
    Crack on!

Oh ye of little faith - I’ve already griddled a piece of toast on the hot plate
Burn to a crisp - lovely

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Should be good for a small crock pot. Does that top rail come off, so you can get a bigger pot on top?

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I do toast on our aga hotplate - it's a bit different from the toaster, but in some ways nicer! There are 2 ways - drop the bread straight on the plate, it can stick and burn though depending on how hot the plate is.
The other way - We have a toast "griddle" (???) - 2 circular bits of coarse woven stainless wire with handles that kind of grip the proto toast between them and keep them off the hotplate - they can stick to the wire but you just bang them off with your hand.
But the best thing about the second is you can make toasties with them! MMMMMMM TOASTIES! :) Cheese and ham is my fav.... I tend to put a piece of tin foil over the plate to keep the delicious melted butter off the hotplate itself.

Some people do forage for diesel ... Good idea to have a lockable filler cap!

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt People used to in the right parts of the country! You could forage for used veg oil though, or indeed burn logs in it, but you'd be doing a lot of cleaning it out afterwards! Which would rather defeat the point of having one.
