  • I had an idea in my head for the galley design and build and after a couple set backs and many learnings, I got it and I’m really happy with how it looks

    With more routing to do, add a piece of ply maybe 300*150 to the base of your router, that will help to keep it level when you're on the wider gaps. Doing good there James, well done you.

    • @andyk101
      @andyk101 9 месяцев назад +3

      Tangs167 is absolutely right. You can extend the base of your router by making a ply extension plate and bolting to the existing sole plate. In the joinery workshop it's common to have a few different ones for different set-ups / jobs.

    An accidental knock or kick and I’m afraid those bends are going to crack without further reinforcement

    James , there is only one way of achieving the curves you want , measure and measure again and then take it a steam bender .

  • @ACarpist
    @ACarpist 9 месяцев назад +7

    Do wonder if it splits when a curve gets a knock as you are walking past it.

    With all of that wood dust in the air, you should be waring a filter mask.
    Time for some hovering. ;-)
    At 6:11 (and other times), I see what looks like an odd shaped hole in the deck, was their a problem?

    Wouldn’t it be better to buy flat packed kitchen units like some others that are doing boat conversations

      @@alanrichardson1672 Makes me cringe quite honestly - especially the way the tools and materials are treated, not to mention his lungs. Starting with the decorative element first and working backwards to a cabinet carcass - why? What about doors, drawers and shelves and the practical things? But I keep watching... 😵‍💫🤦‍♀

    Well done on the progress, James. I'll admit I don't understand how you're going to do the cupboards/drawers, but I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together and for the "ohhh... I see" moment. Here's my best parent impersonation... "mask!" 😨

    It looks fantastic! But it was exhausting watching it come together, probably more so for you than me. Can’t wait to see how you open it up for storage. Hopefully you had a beer and had a good sleep after putting it together. As always I’m so happy you have great friends helping you. Thank you for sharing.

    I know nothing about woodworking but perhaps rout the bottom after the curves just in case that happens again, then you can just turn it up the other way 😊
    Also, maybe squeeze the filler into the routs as soon as it's up and it might strengthen the weak bits😊

    Why dont u set shallow blade depth with circ saw.
    Cut loads of grooves, then just run a chisel down, to peel off wats left?
    Just an idea.

    • @PinkLittleElephant
      @PinkLittleElephant 9 месяцев назад

      he tried that before... But the plywood he is working with is very thin and it was difficult being accurate enough with a circular saw and chisel without damaging the last veneer layer. You also ended up with lots of lines when you then bend the plywood.

  • @YaaLFH
    @YaaLFH 9 месяцев назад

    Do you have a brad nailer? I would reinforce this glueup with brad nails - they leave tiny holes that can be easily hidden with a bit of wood filler or glue mixed with sawdust.
    Also please, please wear a mask - this dust is not good for your lungs.

    Hmm , I do not like how thin it is on your lovely curvy bends , they will split quite soon as they absorb and lose moisture . That is not how you acheive a nice visible bend .
