Don't! throw your ac on . heat only adjust it . Saves fuel and your ac unit . Good wiper blades made of silicon this is scotty knowledge of the wiper blades. but using heat will work better cool your engine more which helps , keeps you cozy and the moisture/fogged windows will be gone . I'm going for a ride now .
Could not agree more. I see so many videos where you have to put up with 5 minutes of introduction prattle, then a tidbit of information, then another off subject prattling session, then, finally one more piece or relevant information. The worse are with two guys chatting away and constantly going off topic. 20 minute videos with about 1.5 minutes of actual useful information. Scotty's videos are a breath of fresh air. Short and to the point, always with good information.
Just a bunch of low life haters. He is not trying to sell you anything. Try to accept people as they are. May be there's a reason why he speaks loud. Don't like it; then, don't watch. Just stop being mean for no good reason. I like his videos and I wish him good luck.
I actually enjoy watching his videos. Explaining stuff that only takes a few minutes vs someone else explaining the same thing in a 1+hour video. Also, he speaks loudly and clear, which is a good thing. For starters, I don't have to turn then volume all the way up on my phone, unlike most videos which are low in volume levels.
Watched it just now purely for knowledge sake. Great videos for guys like me who aren't mechanics but don't want to pay one for things we can at least attempt at home.
1- check/replace cooling fan[s] 2- check for/clean out intake debris 3- check for/hose off any dead bugs on condenser 4- check/replace cabin air filter 5- check/replace fan belt 6- check/refill refrigerant
I like Scotty's videos because they are fast paced, not a lot of talking about shit that doesn't matter to the job at hand, and he covers all the pertinent points. Good videos, Scotty.
Scotty, thanks for getting straight to the point without a lot of fluff. I swear it seems like so many RUclips do-it-yourselfers just want to hear themselves talk.
Mr Scotty I want to thank you for making your knowledge available and thank you again for the un cluttered get to the point manner that makes your videos stands out as the most confidence instilling voice of reason and common sense when im faced with attempting a repair .you have saved me stupid sums of money this year and your insights on hidden damage helped me keep my daughter out of a well camouflaged jeep cherokee that we learned recently had an electrical fire and the purchaser was badly burned trying to put the fire out. because of your efforts your wisdom was the deciding "no sale"factor in what Would have been my baby girls 1000 mile a month school/ work transportation . blessings to you and yours!
Tell her to carry a dry powder extinguisher and some boxes/cans of food grade baking soda in her car. That way, she could also be the one saving someone else who's trying to put a car fire out from bad burns (and maybe saving that car too), in addition to be able to react to a car fire in a slightly better way than most people do (basically getting out of the car and panicking; for this very reason, in some countries such as Austria and Russia, extinguishers are mandatory on private cars). The baking soda eats fire away, it's a great complement for an extinguisher. I personally carry 6 kgs of it on my car, since there's not enough room for a decently sized extinguisher.
Hey scott I've been watching your videos from long back even when i had no car and now when i got one , im really glad that i have a great guy like you to help me fix my car without any trouble. Keep up the good work. Stay healthy and blessed.
I spent the last hour watching a plethora of Scotty’s videos and although I keep up with my car pretty well but he’s definitely got some stuff I miss and it’s quick and informative! Definitely a new subscriber 👍🏿👍🏿
Scotty you are a power packed engine.. When you are revving. We get loads of information.. Your style is quick, entertaining packed with energy.. Keep up your good work..
I know a lot about cars, but you always seem to teach me something new. You make learning fun as well with your corny humor. Keep up the good work Scotty! You got a subscription from me.
I will not watch any other car guy but you!! You always having me cracking up! The way you explain things are precise to the point and completely understandable. Your a natural... Love you man! I wouldn't be able to show up every guy that "thinks" he can "take care of it for me" nice gesture, but if they start telling me a bunch of bull? Its because of you I get in there and do it myself rt and knowledgeable to drop jaws I knew what in tarnations I was talking about. Much love. Keep up the good work, you deserve it for doing so many such a great service on educating yourself and in my case? Empowering me with confidence of your passed on priceless information. Sincerely: a faithful watcher.
Very good help and thanks-I was having to replace my refrigerant once a year for the past two years but I got smart this last winter and ran the ac for a short period every day I would drive the car -especially even in the winter. I am certain that this kept the lubricant (ac system oil) circulating and kept the system seals lubricated, and therefore I did not lose the refrigerant over the winter (as had been the case previously), and lo and behold, I did not have to recharge the system at all this year and the ac is nice and cold! Yea! By the way (and if you do not mind me asking) are you by any chance related to Billy Kilmer (the ex NFL quarterback?)
thanks bro that was helpful I do mostly residential Refrigeration some commercial. very little Automotive but one thing I thought was worth mentioning to remind people when they're cleaning the coils not to use too high pressure hose with water and damage them. I've seen it done countless times on residential. people just don't know any better. I'm sure you know that.
Thanks a lot. After watching this video, I went through the steps and found out one of my fans was not working. Thanks for all your vid Scotty. God bless
I LOVE this channel. So grateful for the tips. Wish I knew about from before. From one of your videos, was even able to replace my own door handle. I feel so accomplished! : )
just want to say thank you for what your doing. not Many people will teach us something like this with out costing money. but thank you so much for helping me learn about cars and what to do ever since I found your page I haven't gone anywhere else .
+Kevin Churchill in Mexico we got cheap doctors but at least they're honest same with the government. America has issues just because how much debt they have and how culture is over there
+the Asus pro Mac is a lie Mexican Mechanic tend to be honest and cheap here in Texas too. At least from what I have seen. The place I used to take my truck to would always help work with me to get my truck up and running. Once they fixed the radiator, let me drive off with it without paying and come back in two weeks to pay half and pay the rest in another two weeks.
xinic5 yea us Mexicans are still old school and tend to be humble also buy something in Mexico it will last that's why old Chevy's and fords last so long
Scotty, I noticed you sweating after just a few minutes in the morning heat and humidity... oh how we must really love our fair city. I sincerely enjoy your videos, along with your oftentimes humorous opinions and commentary. I always learn something new, and have fun doing it. Keep up the great work! Thank you
I happened to come across this video a couple months ago having never had any car AC problems, but about a month after watching this my ac went out in my car. What are the chances?? Now I'm back to get some advice. Thanks for the tips. Will be working on my car today.
Scotty just the best! i watch a lot of other people who gives there experience on how to get a job done or what to expect on pin pointing your problem. i appreciate all the peoples who come on RUclips to make a video and give a helping hand to others. Scotty dose his videos in a unique way; his video could be as long as a movie lol i will watch it.
Scotty you are the MAN ! Really wanna thank you for all your videos and effort to bring the secrets of maintaining our cars in mint condition without have to spend a fortune !! to everyone that are complaining or being mean towards Scotty voice, gestures, etc. GO GET A LIFE!!
Ain't that the truth . Thanks for the tip about the filter . Mine was dirty . I didn't even know there was a filter until I watched your show . Thanks Scotty .
I just wanted to thanks to scotty kilmer again well you know ser you never stop learning about automobiles i have been around hot rods a long time and you fine sumthing new around the corner always thanks
I clicked on this cause i noticed my ac doesnt cool much if its over say 75. I just figured i was low on 134 and not much in the vid would help. So sure enuf i checked the fans like Scotty said and the radiator fan motor is dead. The car never overheats so i never noticed it. Thanks Scotty! I never knew that both fans should run with the ac on. You mightve saved me a burnt out compressor.
Yes, he definitely saved your compressor (and many other very expensive parts with it too). Such a high discharge pressure does no good to the lubricant oil and to the reed valves. I myself think i saved a city bus' AC compressor by telling the driver that the AC unit was running with only one condenser fan working out of five (don't ask me why, because i don't know, but it still worked, you could hear the compressor vibrating and shaking violently something like 50 feet away from the bus, and the driver told me that it was cooling, but very weakly; i've seen one of these compressors before on these buses and they don't have any unloading valve, only HP and LP switches).
May 2019! this vid are one of the best video tips of Sir Scot! saved and downloaded in my watch list..ifever i have "Air Continues" problem, this video will serve as my medicine... Thank you for this video! I learned to change my cabin air filter myself. The dealer wanted $65 for the filter Plus labor. I bought it for $7 at AutoZone, and watch a RUclips video on how to replace it! It only took a few minutes to do.
What's wrong with yours? I'm not a mechanic but my Honda Civic last year had the same problem and I did a couple simple things like changes the cabin filter and did a coolant flush and all of a sudden my AC started blowing cold air like the car was brand new.
I realized that we didn't check our cooling fans in two years back until we watched your video then it would be checking on fan first. Right now we checked on my car's fans system, well it didn't work on flow... Thanks for explaining this video clearly than the machines from Goodyear. I spent my money four times, at $400.
Hi Scotty - watched a ton of videos and you've saved me countless dollars doing simple stuff myself and learning what to watch out for at the stealership. Anyways here is my dilemma. I have a 2003 Honda Civic with a weird A/C issue. upon starting the vehicle, the A/C works fine. as soon as you press the A/C button you can hear the "click" of the compressor clutch magnets engaging and cold air comes out of the vents. also want to add that both radiator fans work fine as well. after a few minutes of driving the compressor clutch disengages and will not re-engage. i will press the A/C button off, then on again and it won't work. the fan comes on at the radiator, but the compressor clutch will not engage. if i leave it off for about 10-15 mins of driving then turn it back on..wah-lah...the compressor clutch engages and A/C comes on blowing cold air. again though, works for a few minutes then stops. do you have any idea what could be the problem?
The cabin filter is a very overlooked fix. My ac felt kinda weak and would take a very long time to cool. I though that it needed more refrigerant or maybe the blower fan was giving out. Then one day I changed my cabin filter and the old one was full of lint, leaves, debris and crud, once I changed it, the ac worked like new! So do check your cabin filters.
I replaced the AC compressor, and all the o-rings, receiver/drier, orifice tube in my truck last season, vacuumed the system down, leak tested and recharged with R134A. I get 32 degree air from the vents even on the hottest days. I had a shop do the R134A conversion in one of my other trucks several years ago, the system didn't even last 1 season, it only worked a few weeks and then failed and it cost almost $2,000 to have all the work done. I did the same stuff myself and with buying the vacuum pump, gauge set, compressor, o-ring kit, receiver/drier, orifice tube, leak test die, refrigerant and oil I only spent $500 the biggest cost was the compressor.

Like the old saying, "Simple but effective"... 80>
I just love the way this guy presents his tips!
Thank you for this video! I learned to change my cabin air filter myself. The dealer wanted $65 for the filter Plus labor. I bought it for $7 at AutoZone, and watch a RUclips video on how to replace it! It only took a few minutes to do.
There u go.
where's your shop? I'm in Houston Texas too
downtown houston near west gray and montrose. E mail scottykilmer@gmail.com for appts M-F
Anybody else thought, before clicking on this video, it looked like Scotty was rolling a blunt?
I wish I had air conditioning in my car,so I don't have to drive around with all my windows down.
What's wrong with yours? I'm not a mechanic but my Honda Civic last year had the same problem and I did a couple simple things like changes the cabin filter and did a coolant flush and all of a sudden my AC started blowing cold air like the car was brand new.
+Richard Vaughan my A/C compressor was squealing so I took it out and put in that bypass pulley for $30
Bad pulley bearing? Pretty easy repair.
+wholeNwon yeah but weight reduction
A/C never came with my car (kia rio lx ).just saying i wish it did have some.
I like how he make his video tips, fast and loud, very informative and most of all very accurate.. 🙌🙌
I realized that we didn't check our cooling fans in two years back until we watched your video then it would be checking on fan first. Right now we checked on my car's fans system, well it didn't work on flow... Thanks for explaining this video clearly than the machines from Goodyear. I spent my money four times, at $400.
He looks like an old John Lennon with this glasses!
Cesar GYE lmaoo
Thanks John Lenon.
Imagine there is no AC . In car only freash air.
so i did what you told me Scotty kilmer and that was the problem.. thank u so much.... i cant thank u enough!!!
I don't know a ton about cars, but enough that I could easily follow this. Thank you for taking the time to help us all out!
Did you figure out it out I got the same problem
@@nathanmccumber8965 it was the compressor clutch. it was cheaper to just buy a new compressor with new clutch assembly.
This guy is an angel 😇
This guy is the best for car advice and question's
Thers something that makes scotty likeable i think its how he likes to explain things out
gotta appreciate this channel. always informative an no bs. subscribed a while ago an always find myself watching these videos
I watched almost all your videos and I'm not even a car guy just a car owner
your doing a great job very informative thank you!
"Thank You!!" You wasted No time in getting Rt to the points of the matter and you really educated me! 👍👍👍❗❗
Mr Kilmer, you could pass for a young Dennis Hopper. Your videos are super-helpful!
You helped me fix my Saturn and save hundreds! Thanks! Awesome job!
