- The 2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has the rare quality of being a performance powerhouse both NOW and back in its day. With a 6.2L supercharged V8 pumping out 638 horsepower to the rear wheels, it stands proudly with its ZR1 name as a supercar killer of the time. Much like the latest ZR1 we’ve just learned about. But how does it drive? And does the performance match its name? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. SUBSCRIBE!
Huge thank you to @CarandRacer for letting us feature his car!

The C6 Vette will forever be the "prime" Corvette to me
Dude, the c6 interior makes my eyes bleed.
C6 interior is awful. C7 is where it's at.
@@hamsterbrigade But just look at the C6, its beautiful
@@axledog7297 Most of you complaining about the C6 interior just say that because of journalists. Once you actually see it, it's not half as bad as people make it be. Swap the cobalt steering wheel and put some better seats, what more do you really want from a sports car? For the previous C5, those interiors didn't age well but you can see the big upgrade gm did with the C6 interior.
Because it was the corvette of our childhood, the same for the 997, the murcielago, the 599 and all those 00's cars
650 HP, sub 3.5sec 0-60, sub 3,400 LBs, carbon ceramic brakes, magnetic ride control, 212 MPH top speed, a 7.19 Nurburgring time back in 2009-2012. This raised the bar on ALL the performance cars that were 3x-4x the price.
top speed is 205 mph
This thing literally has the same brakes as the Bugatti Veyron.
@@nodo7575 no it does not
@@MisterMuslim000it has the same brakes as a Ferrari Enzo
@@nodo7575No sir. The Brembos that come on the C6 ZR1 are extremely similar to the brake package on the Ferrari Enzo. They're not 100% the same, but they're close enough.
The chrome wheels actually look good. Actually the whole car looks great effortlessly
I'm sick of the anti chrome movement in the car community. I think chrome looks great! When applied with a level of restraint. It adds a touch of class that nothing else can.
I think the wheels look great, but that generation definitely looks "Florida" as James said. Perfectly put imo.
Yeah, chrome wheels look way better than the boring black wheels on everything now that just makes it look like someone stole you hubcaps.
I think this car looks timeless and classy with the chrome wheels, the carbon fiber bits, and that silver color. The new ZR1 sounds like a monster but looks very overly designed. It reminds me of the Civic Type R from the last generation that everyone thought looked too boy racer-ish.
I'm not a fan of chrome 9/10 times, but on this particular car, they look fantastic. One of very few cars where I would keep the factory wheels.
“You’d have to be bonkers to buy the Corvette. And that is precisely why you should.”
- Jeremy Clarkson, on the C6 ZR1
His review of this car is one of the few that have stuck with me through the years. Hats off to production crew, editing, etc. it was just an amazing review!
Of course, I remember the Enzo also
"It's like coming to Queen's party with cowboy boots and chaps"
I loved the episode where he drove the red one in America. I've loved this car since then and I still do ❤

That had me rolling.
That guy does that at least once per video 😂
Ha ! Me too
@@wizardindustriesusa It's impressive just how consistent he is lmao
Me too! That plasticky rear end part has always been the bane of the C6 'Vette, as fast and powerful as it is.
Well Ferrari F430 tail lights rattle and eventually fall out if you don’t notice.. 😂
The C6 to me is actually the best Vette. I love how they look, I love the simple (cheap) interior. It's just a big engine, manual transmission, RWD, and I'm all here for it.
Agreed. The Z06 especially is the purest expression of the American sports car.
C5 imo.
Yup. The 427 (which is basically just the convertible Z06) is one of the very few domestic cars I've actually considered adding to my garage. White, no stripes, with 3 pedals.
Shout out to the TSX 🙏🏾
@@JTMoodie2 Lol many cars have came and gone out of my garage since the TSX (2000 Saab 9-5 Sport Combi, 2001 BMW Z3 3.0i, 2018 Toyota C-HR, 2014 BMW 328d Luxury Wagon, 2021 Tesla Model Y, 2007 Mercedes Benz C230, 2019 Mazda Mazda3 Premium). That ZR1 would decimate a Hellcat off the showroom floor while retaining its resale value to date.
Well.... yeah, the C6 ZR1 with the performance package pulls on the 760hp GT500 in a roll race.
@@saltyfloridaman7163zr1 definitely a monster
base model ls3 cars are on par with hellcats.
Hellcats are very popular in the Hood.
As the owner of a 2009 C6 Z51 convertible with a 6spd and a built 7.0L naturally aspirated LS3 making 650hp, I can attest to the amazing noise, great analog experience, and perhaps what you are missing from the equation...the reliability. These are cars that you can actually use and have fun with and not worry about breaking. If something does go wrong, parts are easy to find and inexpensive to buy and the car is easy to work on. I paid less than a third of the price of this ZR1 for my car fully built. I'm only an hour from Toronto, happy to let you gents drive it and see if a $30,000 CAD C6 wets your appetite. Great video! Thanks!!
I wanna see this!
How's your LS3 a 7.0L? I thought only the Z06 came with the 7.0L LS7
@@blackvenom530 427ci Stroker Package on a 6.2 and you have a 7.0
Sorry to say, but your car is not $30k anymore. Corvette prices, especially for manual transmission models are out of control on price now. GM is so stupid to have killed the manual transmission.
@@blackvenom530 it’s not stock. Livernois Motors built it with a LS3 block, their cam and heads and punched it out to a bit over 7.0L’s.

As a UK viewer this is THE American car for me. All black ZR1 please.
All vettes are so painfully rare here
I saw a C5 once on UK roads and it had a hell of a presence! Seeing one in the UK is a bit of a juxtaposition.
@@lorddoobsworth144 I wonder why. In Poland, in larger cities you can meet them quite often
I'd rather have a z06 but yeah, know what you mean
Yes sir if you ever get the chance look up the infamous, midnight zr1 and watch what it can do with some mods. Thing spits flames. They do coyote stuff now but loved that car. Put a lot of gaps on many newer cars for years on end at Tx2k on the streets.
I was born in 2000 and this car was one of my superheroes growing up. My dad worked at a dodge/jeep/chrysler dealership and my walls were covered in viper posters that he would bring home, and when the zr1 came out and Jeremy clarkson did a burnout in Las Vegas in it, it did the same thing to my 9 year old brain that the viper did.
🙌
Probably my favorite ZR1 model ever.
Love the C6. Bought C6 Z06 back in April and it’s such an amazing car. Every time I drive it, I’m amazed that GM built something this good 18 years ago.
Any mods? I just bought a z07 carbon pack that should be here in a week, super excited
Two generations ago and it's still King of the road.
C8 Z06:
There are way better cars from that generation buddy.
@satyagadiraju mod for mod, not a lot of cars is touching the zr1 even in it's stock for there's not many. Let's talk about it

The blue on that car is unmatched. For me its almost as iconic as papya orange on a mclaren. Notice I said for me, I get most people probably don't feel that way.

C6 Generation of Corvette is the Peak Corvette for Me
Multiple people have said this in the comments and it makes me so happy. C6 is peak corvette for me as well.
@@maziyarebrahimi997 i love the C6 because of the NfS MW 2005

And this car because of a film called the Last Stand 2013 ( i guess )
The new C8 is fugly and doesn’t look like a corvette at all. C6 and C7 ZR1’s definitely do more for me in the curb appeal category.
@@313soldier313 C8 is §HịT
@@313soldier313 Yea the C6 has nostalgia appeal to me, but it's from when GM was building extremely cheap interiors. I disliked the C7 when it came out, but I think it's aged very well. Also, fuck the C8. I love everything it can do, but I just can't accept how ugly they are.
We bought a '12 C6 with only 11k miles and a MT in excellent condition for 27k, and it is absolutely amazing for a weekend driver. Best sports car for the $ IMO.
You took advantage of a little ol' lady didn't you? I don't know how else you would have gotten such a good price. Good for you dude. I'm not judging you. I understand! 😂
@@darksu6947the standard /base C6 Vettes can be had at a decent price.

The GS is damn near the same cost wise as the Z06 in this generation nowdays.

Best way to get into a c6 they’re reliable and priced proportionately not overvalued
One of the best vetts made. C6 has that American muscle vibes.
Newer vettes are pushing more of the Italian vibes
Not only that. I'm sure that new ZR1 will also heading towards having the exotic Italian pricing. Awesome car, this one and the new one but the average joe these cars were not built for unfortunately.

I can’t even explain why but there’s just something about this car, the look, the sound and the performance in general is just unmatched for me. Been my dream car since I can remember. Love the vid!!
These two guys are to young to appreciate how amazing that car was and sill is. I have a C-7 Z06, and a ‘24 Boxster S. And I still miss my C-6 Grand-Sport big cam track car. Best looking generation too.
As European Corvette is the sportscar that I have always lusted for because here in Slovenia you didn't see it on the road it was rarer than the Ferrari. Guys another great video, you should make one about different car cultures Japan vs Europe vs US ,...
God, is there anything more boring than 'car cultures' -- wow, the fact you care, it doesn't reflect well on you.
I have exhaust from your country in my zr1 - akrapovic :)
The C6 ZR1 is honestly gorgeous, exterior wise.
I grew up around mustangs but when the c6 came out when I was 15 I was like in awe. I think it’s a 10/10 design.
I know looks are subjective. But this car will NEVER age. Looks timeless! My fave corvette for sure!
As an aussie who will never get one, i always wanted a c6 corvette, and those wheels look great on it. What a machine
I’ll help u import one from the states 😊
Atleast us Aussies were lucky enough to get its LS9 engine in our HSV GTSR W1 💪
Almost bought one last year in VIC. There seems to be a few that pop up for sale every year. About the 190k with 15k kms which is a fair bit cheaper than the c7 z06s here.
@@wh909 wow that’s insane, they’re like 20-25k in the states. Shipping can’t be more than 10k
I’d love to own one. Manual, raw, great looks and still silly power for the road. I’d keep this for life.
Yes!
I owned one. 2011 Cyber Grey. What a beast. I had it to 180 mph a couple time and it felt great. Brakes were awesome. My favorite experience: chasing down a guy on a crotch rocket and seeing the look on his face when he saw my tires spinning doing 90! Doing 140 he was still close and heartbreak when he heard me shift.
My only complaint? Replacing carbon fiber front splitters constantly. One feature I love about the C8. Front lift with memory.
That car looks so good. The silver the blue and the chrome wheels mwah
I LOVE the way this thing looks
The new ZR1 is crazy, the C7 ZR1 was pretty bonkers as well. But the C6 ZR1 has such a simple elegance to it, I love it. Along with the '05 Ford GT my favorite american supercars. There is a video from AutoTopNL, where they whip the ZR1 up and down the Autobahn and I rewatched it about a dozen times already.
Sound alone that car is amazing. One of my favourites of all time personally.
You've got to do the C4 ZR1 now...405 NATURALLY ASPIRATED HP in the early 1990s 🔥
Not only would that be great to see, if they could get the entire historic ZR1 (or equivalent top dog) lineup that would be incredible - didn't the C3 and C2 have even more powerful versions than the C4?
@@ApothecaryTerryI want to see the C4 ZR1 on a new performance tire like the Cup 2 vs Nissan Z Nismo.
@@saltyfloridaman7163 It'd be awesome to see a bunch of older cars on modern tyres, especially the traction limited ones of course...an F40 could be especially interesting, although old Corvettes are a little easier to get hold of 😆
Not sure why you'd compare against a Z though - just see where the old cars place on the lap time board.
They should ! My 94 is in a garage beside me right now.. 5 mins from where these guys film in milton 😅
@ApothecaryTerry if you've seen the factory rubber on a C4 ZR-1, you'd be disgusted at how Terrible they are. Most all seasons of today have more traction. Something like PS4s would shave multiple seconds off even short tracks, Cup 2s would be even better
I love the side profile of these.
its mean 💪
It look amazing in person.
This is hands down best looking Corvette for me😍
Everyone says that! I always thought it was jaw droppingly gorgeous!
C7 better
My first Corvette experience was a Black on Black C6 LS7 Z06 with chrome wheels. My friend's dad was kind enough to give me a ride during which we got up to 144 mph. It was absolutely amazing! The C6 generation will forever hold a special place in my heart.
This is my favorite corvette.
I normally hate chrome wheels but that spoke pattern is so nice I can forgive the chrome.
Those are the spokeyest spokes to ever spoke. I like, how much? 😂
I had a C6 Z06 and let me just say its already a blessing of a sports car. I can only imagine the C6 ZR1
I rode in one of these at Sema when they came out. Ron fellows driving school was out there and I was fortunate enough to ride on the closed course they had set up. This car is an animal! I’ve been in a lot of fast cars but the experience the c6 zr1 gave was unforgettable! It had ferocious power at any rpm and commanded respect from anyone brave enough to take it on. What an amazing vehicle!
That engine is ferocious sounding that would never get old for me
Man, you know the ZR1 is our American flagship when James says "Zed Oh Six" in one breath and "Zee Are One" in the next
I've been DYING for y'all to do this car. I'm so excited!!!!! Best car channel on RUclips, the banter and chemistry, production, second to none.
Hoping they do a c6 z06 as well
I just bought one of these last year in that exact color. Best car I've ever owned. Chrome wheels look excellent on the car. I spent about 5500 on mods and made 650 whp, trapped 140 mph in the 1/4 and took it on the local road course. It handles everything you throw at it extraordinarily well.

Crazy how understated the old ZR1 looks compared to the Z06 of the same era.

I'd rather have this than a C8.
I remember when the C6 came out, people mistook it for a 360 Modena at the time. It's really a classic looker.
The first C8 I saw, I mistook for a Lamborghini from a distance
C6 ZR1 is still relevant today! It can run with the best of them.
Iv seen some current street racing videos an it's beating twin twin turbo mustangs.

Power to weight along with aerodynamics is a killer.
watched one today of it beating a new c8z 2 out of 2 times. Second time walked it bad
Even the c6 z06 is a great car nowadays, really fast for an all motor v8
I actually love the C6, timeless design.
My younger years I was into "tuner" cars, but over time, and in this era, I began expanding my likes to just great cars that were passionately formulated by enthusiast engineers within the boundaries they had to work with.
I don't care what new Corvette's Chev puts out no matter the Horsepower or anything the C6 Zr1 aka The Blue Devil will forever be my dream and Ultimate Vette 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Y’all are wrong about the exterior styling of the C6. The C6 ZR1, Z06, and Grand Sport are great looking cars. Round taillights, big butt, rounded wedge shape. And the noise of the ZR1 and the Z06 😮. I would rather have the Z06 of this era, though. C7 Z06 is about $70,000 American.
An opinion about the looks of a car is completely subjective. It can't be considered right nor wrong. That being said I love the styling too. Those rear lights are iconic!
It's the best looking modern Corvette to me. It's the last modern Vette, that doesn't look busy. It also has them round tail lights which I love!
C7 Z06 imo is too heavy, too automated, and too much power to be honest. You really don't need the mechanical complexity of a supercharger that heat soaks on track. A lightweight coupe with a manual and n/a engine is all you'll ever need.
I've owned a C3 and a C5, and I think the C6 is the worst looking Corvette ever made. It's not ugly or anything, but it's way too similar to the C5, but with a bunch of bad changes to the design - it just doesn't look right.
Its domestic , they have to try and
Downplay something 😂
Didn’t even watch the more than 30 seconds but I just love how the C6 is so relevant today even with the new cars of 2024!
638HP From 2009. Let’s go!
Can confirm, 3 years into ownership, and it's a gnarly animal!
God bless you brother! ❤😅
I've never been in love with American cars but the C6 ZR1 has always done it for me. From the day it came out till now. Crazy engine and somehow looks subtle and aggressive at the same time. Would love to own one some day
The one things all vettes had over the competition is price and reliability. Beat the snot out of this ZR1 all day long and it will ask for more. I agree that the C6 Z06 is probably the better buy with the 427 cubic inch naturally aspirated V8, but this thing is an absolutely LEGEND. ‘Scare the shit out of you’ power with that supercar level 6.2L SC V8.
I wish Thomas would have done a proper lap to see how it measures up. This thing broke Nurb records when it was released. Opinions may change.
The C6 has always been the definitive corvette for me. It's the car that comes to mind when i hear someone say the word, its just the best looking vette. Simple but sleek body styling, 6 speed, rwd, and a big ol v8.
This is my all time favorite Corvette!
The C6 ZR1 was the arguably the first Corvette that really catered to the exotic buyer. At the time, the $115k price tag was seen as a ton of money for a domestic performance car, Corvette included. This is still the best looking modern Corvette and its performance is still relevant today.
I think this is a great looking car, don’t care about the plastic bulging back side, just means it won’t rust and saves weight. It’s right in the right places, great American sports car
I think I'll speak for many Americans. But in a word. We were very proud of this era of Corvette more than any other before or after. Chevy gave the world a pretty powerful and reliable powetrain with the z06/zr1 with extremely competitive handling capabilities, all within a price range that came in much less than the supercars of this era.
What? Clarkson absolutely did cover this car, it was on their track and featured in one of their specials and it was on the cover of an issue of Top Gear magazine in the UK.
The video of the hot lap of that episode appeared on my feed after the C8 zr1 unveiling. R8 vs. Zr1.
@moiv8 yeah, Top Gear's original coverage was how I found out about this car back in the day.
The C5Z will forever be my favourite vette just because its the last "raw" vette to me - but the C6 ZR1 just has a special place in my heart
My favorite Corvette exhaust sound. It just sounds so intense.
still the greatest of all time. hands down. the respect the c6 commands on the streets or wherever you go. i got more compliments and people wanting to by my JSB ZR1 than anyone in my C8 Z06! literally insane!
I never understood the Jeremy Clarkson push in the back panel criticism, it's a body panel that holds its shape and is lightweight who cares if it moves under pressure.
They love to nitpick American cars.
C6 Corvettes were and still are the best bang for buck performance cars ever. The ZO6 and ZR1’s are really something special. Throw in mods and they’re absolutely brutal.
Seeing this now, I just noticed that the front end of the C8 is more connected to the C6 than the C7.
This car is special to me, because it seems to be dream car come true on paper: Supercharged V8, Manual, RWD, Lightweight 2dr Coupe that's also a supercar killer. It holds some nostalgia for me from the Top Gear USA Trip where Jeremy Clarkson drive the hell out of this thing and couldn't stop praising it despite his general hate for American Cars.
The C6 Z06, ZR1, C5 Z06 and C7 Z06 are some of my favourite Corvettes. Not really into the old ones, but they're super cool to see at a car show.
I'll be a life-long Corvette fan.
The mighty C6 ZR1, I came here and are still blown away by the reveal of the C8 ZR1, but man, the C6 ZR1 ancestor of that still is one mean machine, it still can whack many contemporary supercars.
That is the best sounding Corvette ever made IMO
This car poster lived on my wall, on my binders, and computer wallpaper for years.
Thomas is one hell of a driver!! Really enjoy watching your talent!
C6 z06 and zr1 are definitely my favorite looking. Very nostalgic for me. I remember the countless videos of the new zr1 being compared to European rivals and beating them. I remember it spanking the gt500, and flying with the blue angels. I remember it setting production car lap records. Light weight and fast. That's how it should be.
There's no reason a new c8 shouldn't be more than 3400lbs.
Top gear ran the c6z around their track and trashed it, yet it set one of the fastest times....wondered why they never ran a laptime with a zr1? Hmm... I love them so much, but all they did was trash it, even thought it spanked exotics.
Beautiful masterpiece. I have the c6 z06, but my favorite exhaust sound is the zr1. It's just perfect.
“Those brake lights are really loyal to that panel” 😂😂
Even today, this car looks fantastic. Chrome wheels and all. The profile of the body and the stance are truly killer.
We need an early 2000s Miata paired against a Pontiac Solstice video. Bring in more of the early GM products 😂
This ZR1 will forever be the ONE to get in my mind.
this car deserves to be on the main channel wtf?
"Sorry I didn't mean to interrupt you driftin..." Top quote for throttle house. 😄
I don't see how a 3.4s 0-60, 200MPH+ American car isn't impressive in 2024, I think it should be a LOT more impressive than a Z06.
TO live with, sure, I should think a normal base C6 Grand Sport would be fine but that's not why you buy a ZR-1.
Also, man, did the styling ever age this well on a Corvette? I think not. Classic.
Dream car here. Replaced the seats, and this is perfect. Look at how much fun they are having when he presses the throttle. So much fun.
There are guys that go from C6 to C7 then back to C6 for the driving experience.
That would be me. C7 Z06 to C6 ZR1.
I saw one in California in mint condition with a great spec and “low” miles for 80k. It’s gone now and whoever got it must be ecstatic rn. This car is a dying breed and I would take this over a lot of modern cars.
It looks massively better then that Temu Ferrari 488, they call Corvette now.
This has been my dream car since I was a kid. I will have it one day!!!
Forever my dream car

James is just an accidental comedy genius 😂😂😂
Been seriously looking at picking up a C6 lately. So much performance at an amazing price and they have aged well.
Buy an unmolested C6 Z06, get the heads done and enjoy. Amazingly comfortable cars to drive. Fuel mileage is incredible for 500 HP, unless right foot gets heavy. Definitely a nice day\weekend touring car. I've had my 09 since 13 and won't be selling it. Cheers, and happy hunting :-)
Do it, you won't regret it. Since buying mine a few years ago I've converted 5 people to c6 Vettes, including my Dad buying one in the same color even 😂😂.
Wouldn't mind a full review, always liked this car
C6 ZR1 and Z06 are badass and look great without having anything over the top like the newer generations.
This and the c6 z06 will be some of the greatest corvettes ever made.
seeing this car on the road during development was one of the coolest parts of my teenage years. needed a few hundred more horsepower to try to keep up with it.
The C6 is my favorite generation since 70s
The yellow ZR1 has been with me for over 10 years. The car is perfect, fits like a glove. Compared to my Challenger, it's a featherweight :)
My favorite car of all time, totally understand it not being everybody’s cup of tea but it’s so perfect at what it does, can’t wait to buy one!
As a South African that never got Corvette's at all officially and the ones that are here are owned by rich people , this is the most gorgeous Corvette ever made and I'm not talking about in modern days I'm talking since the dawn of Corvette's this is the most beautiful most gorgeous even me that likes modifications i wouldn't mod this aside from change every panel on it from plastic to full carbon but paint it because lets face it an excessive amount of visible carbon isn't nice
This is my favorite Corvette. So sweet. The Z06 has the 7.0 v8, which is a beast until it blows the heads😢
I just had the heads done. Simple as that! Great car :-)
I'm an import guy but if I needed a muscle car, hands down the C6 ZR1 is a must buy. 0-60 in 3.5s...IN FIRST GEAR! That's nuts.
It's insane how you guys aren't into this
Snobs are gonna snob. Despite all the "American car" commentary, it stills seems to be better than any Canadian or British car. Oh wait…
I remember when i was a 19 year back in 2008 old working at uno pizza when this old chinese dude and his wife pulled up in a blue zr1, since then it has made quite the impression.
The C6 ZR1 is perfect. Besides the seats
Yeah, the seats were absolutely horrendous!

You can swap seats from c7 c8 . same bolt pattern
