Beautiful ship, shame the show writers "kinda forgot" that shields are a thing.

Yeah shield use is so selective. I can see the case where someone says that material projectiles pass through shields (which in this case, is why the crashed snub fighter and missiles cause damage to the engines) but the blasters causing damage too just isnt consistent)

The effectiveness of shields has never been all that consistent in Star Wars, and most likely this is a pretty old ship. Everything about its design (and especially the look of its gun turrets) screams "Separatist commerce raider", but possibly it's even older than the CIS and simply made by Hoersch-Kessel Drive (same company that made the Lucrehulks for the Trade Federation, and similarly their fighters look a lot like a more compact version of the R-41 Starchaser that was a Hoersch-Kessel design).
And this pirate crew probably has been maintaining it even less effectively than Mando did the Razor Crest. Probably they'd been having to repurpose looted components to keep the shields working, which is why they've been targeting what they expect to be undefended worlds where *any* warship would be an insurmountable threat to the locals. Djarin's heavily souped-up N-1 and Bo-Katan's beastly Gauntlet being able to take it down isn't outlandish.

@@RedXlV Or the writers could have bothered to give a reason for why there were no shields. Maybe the pirates showed up because the ship sustained damage in a prior battle and needed a spot to hide out and repair while doing a little plundering on the side. Or something like that. It's not that the ship's shields got taken down, it's that they weren't there in the first place, because every shot immediately destroyed armor, structure or components.
It's sloppy writing and lack of thinking ahead. Which is a consistent problem with current Disney garbage, alongside the fact that it's all woke feminist trash.

I know this is months old but I might suggest a reason for the weak shields. Since the ship apparently can carry 10(likely 12) fighters, but only launch 3 at a time, (not totally sure on the total count) it likely was a design choice, which would leave very little room for a more powerful engine and capacitor systems to support a stronger and more robust shield system. As a pirate ship it would also need room for captured cargo, no boots, no pay.

I wish there was more lore on this ship.
It's hull looks like it was developed and designed for military service, but the almost complete lack of hull plating or military grade shielding suggests that that is definitely not the case.
So if it isn't a military craft but something repurposed by the pirates by mounting as many guns as they could on it, what was the hull originally intended as?
My headcanon is that the Cumulus Class is actually a heavy freighter and this one has been converted to a privateer ship. Heavy freighters as a class are fairly rare in Star Wars, as in the lore the middle space between light freighters and bulk carriers is sparsely populated, but the Rebel GR-75 medium transports seem to fit the class.
(Despite the medium designation, the GR-75 is larger than most medium freighters. Class designations appear to be very loose and culturally specific as opposed to universal in the Star Wars universe.)
Does anyone have a good estimate of the size of this thing? From what I can tell, it's corvette sized and maybe a little smaller than a CR90 corvette - into the "barely a capital ship" range where a single fighter with some concussion missile launchers can very realistically destroy it.
As with a lot of Star Wars ships, it looks bigger on the inside than the outside. I don't see room for stowing 10 snub fighters on its flight deck, much less launching them quickly.
Despite this headcanon, I would accept that it was a second-rate military craft - a corvette manufactured on some backwater world that was outclassed by the best Galactic tech.

Bros This ship should have been disabled and left there for a while, so that it would later be repaired to the Mandalorian as a gift for saving the city.
