You guys should check out " If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman since it's just as great of a song and it was very popular around the same time as Samantha Sang " Emotion ". That would be another great late '70's song you can react to for Female Friday.
I was just about to suggest this too. Another great Gibb tune.
I second the nomination for "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman! Song written by the Bee Gees and on the Saturday Night Fever album. One of my all time favorites.
Definitely got my vote.
Fact's
Totally agree, Yvonne has a great voice
You have to remember when this song was out, you had the BEE GEES, ANDY GIBB AND Samantha Sang on the top of the charts at the same time!
I remember that! Casey Kasem even talked about it on America's Top 40 during his weekly (Sunday) radio show.
I remember that well!
And Barry wrote all of them .
@@princessoffire1107 Barry didn't write all of them! This song he co-wrote with Robin.🎼
Wow
Love her version, was a hit back in my days 70s era
Nice surprise for Jay, Amber! Samantha Sang only had one top 40 hit, and this is the one, written by the Bee Gees in 1978. And let's face it, this song is all Bee Gees with a guest appearance from Ms. Sang. The song went all the way up to #3 and was part of the inescapable Bee Gees juggernaut of that year! A few years later, the Bee Gees wrote Chain Reaction, an excellent retro-sounding Diana Ross tune that you absolutely must check out and react to! And when you do, be sure to take in the extended version.
She deserved a much bigger career. She also had a top 10 hit in her native Australia in 1969, "You Made Me What I Am" under her real name, Cheryl Gray... look it up, and listen to the Parlophone version, you get to hear the BELTING side of her voice, which will rock your world.
Samantha Sang's Voice adds another dimension to the music, she has the uncanny ability to "Whisper in Your Ear".
This is a perfect example of a song that shows how immensely talented as songwriters the Bee Gees were. If the other Bee Gees songs were not at the top of the charts when this song was released, it would easily have been no 1 on Billboard
The magic of this song is how well Samantha's voice complements Barry Gibb's. Also, anything written by The Brothers Gibb can never be duplicated and music from the '70's will never be forgotten!
Actually, the Gibbs are so strong, they overpower her..this is a Gibb song. lol
I agree!
The original was sang by the Bee Gees... she did the re-do to get a career started.
@@desmondmaldonado6466 Actually, they wrote the song for Samantha Sang. She did it first. They didn't record it until 1994, but the album wasn't released. It wasn't until 2001 that the Bee Gees version was first aired. Destiny's Child also covered it in 2001.
@@MediaNexus24 thanks for the correction. I remember Destiny's Child's version. Wasn't bad.
She's sounds like the 5th bee gee in the family.
Imagine Jay's reaction hearing Barry's voice if he hadn't been told the BeeGees were in this beforehand. 😲
Everything the Bee Gees touched, especially in this particular era was heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Everything the Bee Gees touched in the 70’s turned to gold
"I'm there at your side, a part of all the things you are"
What a line.
If you want to react to more Bee Gees' compositions for other artists, let me give you some..
1. If I Can't Have You & Love Me - Yvonne Elliman
2. Grease - Frankie Valli
3. Heartbreaker & All the Love In The World - Dionne Warwick
4. Chain Reaction - Diana Ross
5. Woman In Love, Guilty, What Kind Of Fool - Barbra Streisand
6. Islands in the Stream - Kenny and Dolly
7. You and I, This Kiss, Eyes That See in the Dark - Kenny Rogers
8. Immortality - Celine Dion
9. Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You - Teri Desario
10. Come On Over - Olivia Newton John
These are all great.
At to that "Face To Face" Barry and Olivia Newton John. There are many more.
I'll put in for Conway Twitty doing "Rest Your Love on Me a While," though I do prefer the Bee Gees' original.
You know your a good song writer when the greats choose your song to sing.
And Carried Away...Olivia Newton John from her Physical album
Amazing how many songs they wrote that were hits for other artists!
This should literally just be called "Another Bee Gees song featuring an unknown artist" 🤷🏻♀️ I hear this song SO MUCH on the 70's station on my mom's Sirius radio and I always say "this is clearly a Bee Gees song!!" 🤣 Love you guys, thanks for making me smile! 💛💛
She is a great australian singer. This song is one of my best memories from the “good old days” of high school! 😍
I too was in high school too when this came out.
My high school days too! Great, great memories of some incredible music!
I was in high school when this came out too and remember it fondly. ✌🇨🇦
High school as well
Formerly known as Cheryl Gray down here in Australia.
Una canción fascinante, exquisita 👌👌👌, que te llega al corazón 😢😢😢❤❤❤
Everything the Bee Gees touch turns to gold!
That's Sir Barry Gibb & what his co-producers recently said....everything he touched turned to gold & Barry knew how to deliver the golden eggs!
One of those hidden gems from the 70s. Classic track.
This era! Every week, a couple of awesome songs would come out. And everyone from ages 7 to 70 loved them. It can’t just be me! It was great!!
This is so great as Barry's 76th birthday was yesterday. It was also his and Linda's 52nd anniversary. This is a super awesome song.
Hi Gayla. I love it too. Happy birthday to the boy. Are you still a boy at 76?
🥰😍 Barry and Linda 52 years 💞
Two of my absolute favorite bee gees written songs are "love me" by Yvonne Elleman and "heartbreaker" by Dionne Warwick!
I agree!
"Love Me" is also on their "Children of the World" album with Robin singing lead. It's my favorite Robin vocal after "I Started a Joke." Incidentally, a version of "If I Can't Have You featuring Barry's amazing falsetto is on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack along with Yvonne Elliman's hit version.
Such a great song, written for her and eventually performed and released by the BeeGees for their own. How awesome to basically duet with a BeeGee, coz they never fade into the background on a song with those notes.
Barry did all the background vocals
@@TheBrownlj Yeah, but he is too amazing to stay in the background
The Bee Gees version is the one I knew.
You would also love Yvonne Elliman singing “if I can’t have you”. Another song song written by BeeGees. It’s from Saturday Bight Fever soundtrack. I’d also suggest Tavares singing “more than a woman”. Great cover. Also from same soundtrack. Both are real nice.
oh yes she was beyond beautiful and I love that song I still do. ❤️❤️❤️❤️☕
This song should be The BGs with Samantha Sang
Beautiful old school song
This is the best version, loved it when it first came out on the radio.
The biggest one hit wonder since 1955!
It was covered by Destiny's child and (sorry to all Beyonce fans) not as good as this version.
@@catherinebent7307 for real none can come close
Barry was the best song writer. So talented. Love them.
You must listen to Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb. "What Kind of Fool" is AMAZING! As well as "Guilty". Two powerhouses....awesome songs
Jay had his eyes closed at the end and didn’t see the photo of The Bee Gees. 😆
Yes Yes Yes!
Hard to explain, but this song, sung by Samantha Sang, is such a beautiful vibe.
LOVE THIS.
It sounds like the BeeGees because it is. They wrote it for her and Barry sings the background vocals. They recorded it also.
Another song for a Female Friday written by the Bee Gees is Yvonne Ellerman's "If I Can't Have You" from the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack.
Celine Dion & Bee Gee's - Immortality (Barry said he fell in Love with her voice!)
Love this song and it def reminds me of the 70’s. I believe this was written by The Bee Gees. It’s so dreamy and smooth. Yes, this is how we were conditioned and how we felt about being in love. You had to be there when a whole nation understood that bc that’s what the songs taught all of us. So song becoming hits was not only on how it sounded but made us feel and transported all of us to another place.
Samantha Sang....basically Samantha sang on this track but the reality is...its a pure Bee Gees track full of Barry's vocal but written for a female vocal hence Samantha sang!
This was released in 1978… It has been said this was the biggest One Hit Wonder since 1955!
I could listen to this on repeat. It’s comfort food for my soul. The Bee Gees will always be my favorite and their sound is unmistakable. 🧡
👌
Been SCREAMIN for this reaction for a while, EPIC song!
And happy birthday to Sir Barry! He just turned 76, I think. He's a gift to us all.
Wow..
Great song, and it definitely screams Bee Gees. I think this is the only song I've ever heard where I can't hear the main artist during the chorus, Barry's voice completely takes over.
The Bee Gees finally released their own version of this in 1991 (I think that's the right year).
They recorded their version in 1994 for an abandoned compilation called “Love Songs”, but it wasn’t released until 2001 on “Their Greatest Hits: The Record.”
I'm waiting for your reaction to the R&B group The Stylistics who can rival The Bee Gees in the falsetto game...lol. 'Betcha By Golly Wow'; 'Break Up to Make Up'; 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' are just some of their hits. They even had an appearance in the 1979 movie version of 'Hair' which would be a good movie reaction of the musical.
Russell Thompkins Jr. is really good with the Stylistics.
Fantastic songs, love The Stylistics. And around the same time The Delfonics, "Didn't I?". I get goosebumps when I hear this song, from the first horn. Lol ☺️👍✌️🇨🇦
I've been requesting the Stylistics for awhile. There are far better falsettos than Barry Gibb. Russell Thompkins Jr. and Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations are two. And early Maxwell had the most gorgeous and sexy falsetto.
Love The Bee Gees but they cannot rival Black American vocal groups! Definitely not from Motown or the Philly Soul groups. Not even. Close.
I also love, "You are everything" by The Stylistics
I love love these two. So sweet. Best quote from Amber "That's because your ear is set for Barry". That was so cute.
Great reaction! This transports me back to junior high! It was such a transitional time, not just in my life, but in the country and world in general. The Bee Gees were all over like Covid, movie sound tracks, their own albums, writing for other bands, collaborations with other bands. Everyone was still hungover from 3 years of bicentennial parties, Elvis just died, Van Halen was still playing in clubs in 1977, Fonzie jumped the shark 🦈 which was based on an Evel Knievel jump over a tank of sharks, Jimmy Carter was just starting to screw up the economy, yeah, 77 had a lot going on!
Star Wars was '77, too. :)
“ Immorality”… sung by Celine Dion with the Bee Gee’s doing backing vocals.. it’s beautiful..
Also written by the Bee Gee’s.
When the music started, it just brought back so many memories, Rob I am also a giant
Bee Gees fan
Yes, Samantha Sang has always been on my playlist even on my phone to listen to as I get ready for sleep. It's always a great hit even my middle son LUVS her.. We are glad that Jay got to hear it for female Friday 🔥❤️
Another great Gibbs composition that hit #1 around the same time is "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman. For my money one of the best songs on the SNF soundtrack.
First time I heard this version. She has a sultry voice and all the vocals mesh perfectly. Good choice Amber.😀
The background vocals are 8 tracks of Barry Gibb and 8 tracks of Samantha Sang. It’s not The Bee Gees
Please please react to The Bee Gees with Robin on lead vocals. Yes, I agree that Barry’s voice is amazing, but Robins is also great! And you’ll get a different feeling when he sings. “I Started A Joke” “Massachusetts”. Thanks for reacting to “Emotions” I love this song.
I prefer Robin's voice because it is so unique.
You will find that most of these young reactors are not too keen on Robin's vouce.
@@TheBrownlj - To be honest I think it's often because most of them never listen to it. All they react to is the "disco" era which was the best known but they were so much more than that. You can't judge what you've never heard. Together Barry and Robin blended beautifully like one voice and when they sang separate verses the contrast made their songs very interesting.
I agree I especially love I Can’t See Nobody
I've been a fan of Barry's voice since I was 11 years old. "Words" still melts me about the same way it did in 1968 when I heard it on Ed Sullivan, but I wouldn't want to limit myself to only that sound. The Bee Gees were so much more. Hearing more of Robin on lead would be wonderful. He was just extraordinary. I am not sure I could get through a day without listening to "Heart Like Mine" or "Come On Over."
Musím říct vtom to provedení od této zpěvačky po všech stránkách super super super je tom vše co má být za mě super super
It's such a beautiful song, the voice of the Bee Gees brings back happy memories of my high school days - when my family was all together and not separated by death, when everyday we were surrounded by love, absolute emotion indeed. ❤️
I knew that J would love this. Thanks Amber!
This just popped up on my phone and I know your affinity for the BeeGees so, I stopped everything I was doing just to tune in. Classic BeeGee vibe with Samantha. Jay and Amber, have you covered BeeGees “Lonely Days”?? I think it was their first Top 40 hit in the US in 1970. Awesome tune.
And Fanny so good
Lonely Days is a great travk
So love your reactions to these old songs
One of my absolute favorites from back in the day!! Of course The Bee Gees had a whole lot to do with that!! They all sound amazing together!!! Great reaction as always!!! ❤️
Honestly, I always thought this was the most fabulous song I've ever heard in its day. Brings back so many memories and emotions. Thankyou from a 70yr old UK Grandma ♥
Absolutely a beautiful song, their vocals r magical, I fully agree...Thanx so much, Peace
This is seriously Barry's song with everyone else on backup....they are all fading away into the background. 🔥🔥🔥
Just Barry was doing the background vocals
@@TheBrownlj wow really?? That's insane that he's able to project his voice like he does.
I'm with Jay. Barry carries this song and the BeeGees were in my top 3 of all time if not 100 #1!
I remember buying this single (still got it), wonderful song by the boys, very special memory's!
The Brothers dominated the charts then, either performing or writing for others.
Legendary talent.
Love that Jay so enjoys The Bee Gees. I grew up loving them too! And what a great gift on female Friday. You guys ought to also check out their 80s and 90s music like: Alone, This is where I Came In, You Win Again, For Whom the Bell Tolls, One, Man in the Middle (Maurice sings), Closer Than Close (also Mo singing lead), Immortality (with Celine Dion), and Secret Love. Different style but great evolution of their sound after the 70s. Enjoy watching you guys as always!
I’d forgotten all about this song. Everything they wrote and touched turned to gold. Thanks for bringing it back.
Loveee this song. The feeling is indescribable - like nostalgia even though I was born in the 80s. lol Barry’s voice definitely drowns the others out. His voice is amazing though.
Just to show how HUGE the Bee Gees were in the late 70's, the week of March 18, 1978 had a top 5 that looked like this:
1. Night Fever- The Bee Gees
2. Stayin' Alive- The Bee Gees
3. Emotion- Samantha Sang
4. Lay Down Sally- Eric Clapton
5. (Love Is) Thicker Than Water- Andy Gibb
4 of the top 5 were written by the Bee Gees. The Andy Gibb song was #1 for 2 weeks between the two Bee Gees songs. "How Deep Is Your Love" already hit #1 earlier, and "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman was headed for #1 (also written by the Bee Gees). They were literally the 70's version of the Beatles. They didn't slow down in 1979, either. 😎
I have this record along with Yvonne Elliman "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU" which is also written by the BeeGees. 1977/78 was the year of the BeeGees.
I LOVE Amber's shirt. The message on it is so cool. I would love to have a shirt like that. Spreads a very positive message. ❤👍🙏🏼
The Bee gees wrote this one 😁😘
Just Barry and Robin
@@TheBrownlj I know Hun, just stating the fact that Barry and Robin are Bee Gees lol it's all good 😁😘❤️
You have to do Yvonne Elliman “If I Can’t Have You”! One of my favorite songs written by the Gibbs but sung by another artist. It was also a huge hit.
So funny! I've heard this song many times over the years and have always loved it. The strange part is that I've always just assumed it was another Bee Gees song. I had no idea that there was someone else singing on the song. Thanks for the great reviews you guys do.
Barry alone sings the backup here-- he layered his harmonies
I remember i had listened it for first time in the elevator of WTC in 78. I was humming the song all day.
I love this song & this cover by Samantha Sang
Such a beautiful song. They really should've let her sing some more verses on her own, and not in the breathy voice. She has such a beautiful, rich, clear voice which shines so well in the few verses she sings non-breathy. The song is beautiful how it is though but I can't help but want more of her unadorned voice in this beautiful song.
LOVE IT!!! I’ve always thought this should have been released as a duet. True Barry Gibb fans would definitely want to hear (and let us watch your reaction to!) his lead vocals on THE WAY IT WAS and BOOGIE CHILD!!
I suggest listening to another lady of the 70's. Her name is Maxine Nightingale. 2 of her songs are:
"Right Back Where We Started From"
And
Lead Me On
Great suggestion! I'd forgotten all about her 💯🎶☺️
Her and Gibbs voices complement each other well
This is a good song!
Thank you!!! Yesterday, September 1, was Barry Gibb's 76th Birthday 🎶🎶🎶💥💥💥
It’s very cute. I guarantee that no one who heard this when it came out thought “oh, it’s my girl Samantha Sang!” This is really just another Bee Gees song. Viva la Bee Gees!
I love you both. I saw The Bee Gees live nine times. I remember once at a live show their fraternal harmonies gave me the chills. No one will ever hear the likes of their greatness again.
Another song from my childhood in the '70s! Once I got older listening to this song Samantha had the sultry voice it definitely complimented Barry Gibbs.
Great song, great reaction. You should try Howard Jones "No One Is To Blame"
DEFINITELY! Love Howard! "What is Love" and "The Prisoner" are also bangers!
@@Shrykespeare I saw Howard in concert in 2021. Still sounds great!
Ruby and the romantic and their song Our day will come
The phenomenal Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees once again . They are beyond talent. God Bless them all. 🙏
A good reaction would be to do two-fer with the two versions of "More Than a Woman" with both versions (BeeGees & Tavares) becoming big hits and getting major airplay on the radio simultaneously. I wonder if that has ever happened with other artists, the same song being played by two different artists/band and getting lots of airplay at the same time.
I love this song so much. Also If I Can’t Have You by Yvonne Elliman. They both bring me back to my childhood. Love the Bee Gees and everything they touched, which was A LOT!!!
Growing up I always thought this was only The Bee Gees. It wasn’t until my 20’s that I found out it wasn’t lol
Great job on this pick Amber. It is so great seeing Jay get lost in this song! I love their voices that much too! Someone else suggested Yvonne Elliman , “If I can’t have you”. Check it out.
The strings at the end of this song are divine!
When The Bee Gees we’re on top of the music industry during disco era.
For a female Friday you should try Loreena McKennitt’s “The Mummer’s Dance. Would be a whole new genre for y’all.
And then "Bury My Lovely" by October Project.
I love Loreena McKennitt, once i discovered her, there was no turning back.
Careful. They need to learn how to crawl before they can walk!!)))
YES!!!
I'd second "The Mummers Dance " by Loreena.
Jay’s reaction is so beautiful 😊
I think you'll absolutely love "Be who you are" by The Bee Gees.
