i saw Rickles play a late show in the 70's. The language was X rated. The comedians of that era were restricted as soon as the cameras were there, & not through their choice.
I am kinda young (42), and have always loved stand-up. I don't know about all time, but definitely of my lifetime, and Richard Pryor and George Carlin were still active when I was a kid.
Don Rickles wouldn't be allowed on TV or the stage today. He was an insult genius and didn't care who you were. Everyone was fair game. As it should be. Comedy is comedy and has nothing to do with race or sex.

Rickles at his best. I finally got to see him a just before he died. At the Orleans in Las Vegas. The cadence was slower, he had just recovered from an operation...but he was still Rickles. RIP.

Back in the day when everyone could take a joke and everybody just wanted to laugh. I'm glad my parents exposed me to this man while I was growing up. The best of the best.

Don Rickles was hilarious. I watched all the Roasts when new, but never saw any of Don's specials. 1973, I was age 12, and watched TV alot, during late 1960s and early 1970s.
An all-star audience. That's my generation. @ 63 with life fading quickly, to reminisce of these days when family & neighbors still shared their lives with me, if it wasn't for Christ's promise to restore "life eternal" through faith, I would have given up long ago like far too many have. So hang in there. Keep learning. All is not said and done.
I watch a lot of rickles roasts & interviews & this is one of my absolute favourites, the way he worked the crowd & the joy & pleasure he delivers is pure class & top of his game here.
Those 8 minutes of performance today would've brought him at least 10 law suits and label him as misogynistic racist chauvinism pig by the "woke" culture. God bless his soul, it's a shame that we don't have talent like him anymore.

I saw Marty Allen in the Audience ... I stole his "Hello Dere!" when I was just a Kid and it's the first thing I say to a Baby or Toddler ..... And They Always Smile and Laugh!
Don Rickles was the funniest comedian I ever saw Robin Williams was a close second Don never had to cuss at anyone and he floored a celebrity audience in a very short period of time. I miss Don Rickles and Robin Williams
