    When I’d spent the night with my grandparents, they’d let me stay up late with them and watch Johnny Carson. I loved hearing them laugh. Wonderful memories.

    Don Rickles was a hoot. He was hilarious on those Dean Martin Roasts, which I always watched when new. It makes me feel old now to hear Johnny say he is 48, while I am 60, but when Johnny and Don were 48, when this episode was new, I was age 12, and started 7th grade. This show is an American icon.

      Johnny carson was cutting edge and fun fact he was great with a large audience but lousy with 10 people he was a quiet and very private person

      Unlike the idiots of today's late night hosts, he was smart enough not to piss off half the viewing audience.

      I was 20 years when this episode aired. We were poorer than now and we could not even dream of such things as instant communication worldwide at virtually no cost but we had reached a point of robust expression and virtually no political correctness. Where did the world go wrong ?

    Rickles just absolutely loved Carson. As funny as he is the one thing that always stands way out about Rickles is that he never misses or ducks any opportunity to tell you how grateful he is to you for giving him an opportunity or being good to him. The height of class. Should be something that we all do but don't do enough.

      I worked with far bigger actors and musicians. Working in Hollywood is factory work with famous people. It's not glamorous to spend 16 hours a day on your feet, 5 days at a time. 6 hours off between wrap and call time. Getting home from Friday at 10 am because you start later every day.

    It's amazing to think the power Carson had over careers. This wasn't the first interview I've seen him thanked personally by guests for helping launch their careers all for just giving them a chance. No late night talk show host wields that power anymore. To think of that prestige and honour it must have been for anyone to have Johnny give them an opportunity.

      It's out of whack and control. Our country was sold out right under our eyes. There's no discipline or law and order. We have to watch our backs at all times. It's one big political game all about the buck.

      @@bzb500 Yes, Ross Perot warned us about NAFTA and the Pacific Free agreement, those really sold us out to the communist. Our leaders and our election system was bought off by the hedge fund managers and the super wealthy that could have given a damn. They will pay for it eventually because the communist Chinese will take it all away from them. We had a very vauable way of life. We got too fat and happy and it was stolen, absolutely.

      Come one. Fallon is very talented on may levels. However, I don't watch him because I just don't feel the The Tonight Show should be the flavor her brings. I actually don't watch any of those shows. I mean, the kids like it but I really liked Letterman and I also liked Ferguson. After them, the humor is so low brow and immature, I am just not interested. At least Carson, Leno, and Letterman was geared towards adults. The shows these days are for millenials and those teens that stay up late. Sad.

      Maybe God doesn't endorse a certain religion. If He can know how you're feeling, He can overlook certain things. He may not exclude an atheist if he/she lived a moral life, or for any other reason.

    Don "Mr Warmth" Rickles. What a piece of work. He probably made a person in the audience laugh the hardest I have ever seen. The guy was dying with laughter. About? It was mid- or late 60s, civil rights protests were all over the news. Don spotted the guy and got him to stand up. Guy was black, already laughing. Rickles went on for a minute, then said, "You know, you and i are BROTHERS! (guy really started to laugh) NEITHER ONE OF US CAN EVER GET INTO A COUNTRY CLUB !!" Don because he was Jewish. Now the guy is bent over double laughing. Then he goes on and asks the guy if he ever attended a protest march in the South. Still laughing, all the black guy can do is shake his head no. more ....

    • @douggriggs1499
      @douggriggs1499 7 лет назад +8

      Rickles: "You know, I saw a protest march once, in Atlanta. All the blacks and a few whites were marching peaceably, but refused to disperse when a cop yelled at them to do so. So the cop calls for the water cannons to be used. You know what black leader Rufus Johnson (I don't remember what DR called him) told everyone??" Black guy is having trouble standing up he is laughing so hard. "RUUUNNNN, BABY RUNNNNNNNNNN!" Now the entire audience is laughing very hard. The black guy has to sit down he is laughing so hard. Then Don got serious for a brief moment and said that he was very sympathetic to all civil rights people, that what was going on (mostly in South) was very wrong.
