The irony is I'm 54 Years Old and I'm still watching shows I grew up with because TV today is garbage. We really did live in the Golden Age of Movies and Television. R.I.P Don Rickles - the best.

      I'm 59.
Today there is no equivalent to Johnny Carson and all of the entertainers of the mid-to-late Twentieth Century. Have you seen the clip of The Tonight Show from 1969 with Bob Hope and Dean Martin and George Gobel ? Bob Hope was just an onlooker. Dean Martin was the super-quick-witted one of the bunch, making wisecrack after wisecrack. Near the end, he starts flicking his cigarette ashes into Gobel's drink -- and the audience go nuts. After a few minutes, Carson says, "At exactly what time did lose control of the show ?" The whole thing was just hilarious.
Today, virtually all of the late night hosts are libtard dipsticks and their shows are about 75% Leftist political drivel. They're stoopid, and I'm not going to listen to those idiots preach their liberal BS. Along with about 150 million other people who aren't.
The Sixties, Seventies and Eighties truly were the Golden Age of comedy and TV entertainment. All of those names we grew up with were the best. Golden Age, indeed.

23 years old and loving every minute of it. Maybe I was raised old school but it takes a certain type of mindset to enjoy this. Everything was more natural. Reminds me of my grandparent generation for me. Most of them are gone, but boy did they have a good time together.. the "dying breed" phrase is almost ALL gone. Sucks to think.

I was one of those lucky ones at Harrah's in Tahoe. I had a black velvet coat on and came in with my beautiful girlfriend. The concierge seated us at center stage, first seats (because of an earlier tip to him). Rickles basically asked me to stand up and then asked me what I was doing with such "a nice lookin' broad. You look like a pimp." He was awesome. Nowadays, too many people don't know how to laugh at themselves and don't realize that people like Rickles, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor relieved a lot of the tension in society, believe it or not...cuz basically they loved people and liked to tease them, make fun of their foibles...no matter the race, religion, or politics. Today, we censor ourselves and act mechanically towards each other. Sad that many don't know how sad this is.

I grew up on Carson and all of the greats. Even thinking about all of the talent that we were fortunate enough to have enjoyed, there should be one of the best still around today but unfortunately he suffered and left us way too early.
He was Robin Williams. He was great on Carson and with Winters and of course he was a master of ad-libbing. The only modern guy that should have a late night show today is Craig Ferguson. I found his show after it had gone off the air but that guy is a throwback. Maybe he will be back on the air one day. One of the best interviews (if you can call it that) was between Robin Williams and Craig Ferguson. ruclips.net/video/lvPxRyIWWX8/видео.html&frags=pl%2Cwn

Near the end of his career I knew he had earned deep respect from the next generation when Don and Snoop Dog had dinner together on a special. He is someone to study and be obsessed with; he was just that good. If you want to see other really good comedians from that era, check out Paul Lynde and Dom Deluise. They were also my favorites. Don Rickles top fave was Milton Berle, so you may want to check him out too. And he also used to have a two-season show on NBC in 1976 called "CPO Sharkey". Have a good search!!

I find it interesting that all this generation (Rickles, Carson, John Wayne, Michael Landon.. etc, etc, etc..) that has now pretty well passed on, seems to coincide with the "passing of America" as well... the greatness of what was Once the USofA.... is No Longer, we now live in a country that has truly lost its way.... as has, most of the world in general. Very Sad, indeed.

DeLuise "created so much joy and laughter on the set that you couldn’t
get your work done. So every time I made a movie with Dom, I would plan

My god...what has happended to comedy on TV... This was the ultimate in its day.... I can recall when the tonight show was 90 minutes.... Johnny would do at least a 15 minute monologue if not longer.... Then after a break would come back with 15 minutes or so of shtick.... And if he only had 2 guests he and a good 30 minutes with each.... I got to see the famous Burt reynolds shaving cream show... And then from 1980 to 1984 saw every show.... It was nirvana.... Then Letterman came on the screen on NBC.... Brilliant... Never missed a show... When he switched to. CBS it tanked.... Not as intimate as the NBC set... Was lost for a long time till Craig Ferguson came on.... Absolutely brilliant... Nothing came close to his show.... And since he's left all that's left is a void.... These so called comedic late night hosts have no talent... And the talent they bring on have no talent.... Hollywood has become nothing but a vehicle to promote violence drugs and sex.... No class anymore...... Just vacuous empty headed animal food trough wipers... There's only been a few movies made since the 1960s that are worth watching.... And very few television shows worth watching since 1980...its all violence drugs and sex.... Comedy has vanished... Real comedy... Not this drivel with canned laughter... Most of the good comedians have passed.... RIP.... I have to end this as the tears are coming....

How I wish for these days again...just this kind of comedy.
Rickles: "My wife just lays on the bed (whistles) and says, 'Do you got a minute'?"
Johnny: "She certainly knows your staying power I can tell you that!"
(And they gave Johnny a standing ovation!)

These men were true artists when it comes to comedy! They have us laughing so hard, even 44 years later, and through it all, you never heard any foul language. We have too few comedians like this today, that's for sure.

Talk shows like Johnny Carson were the best. Unlike today where they use it as a political platform. Talk shows are no way as good as they were back in the day

I sure miss those times. Being retired I can stay up and watch late night talk shows but don't. Jimmy Stewart telling stories and reading his hilarious poems, Don Rickles breaking Johnny Carson's cigarette box. Watching new comedians for the first time. It was always a surprise. Today you get Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert only talking about Trump. Craig Ferguson was the last one I liked.

    • @MrBricameron

      Craig just didn't care.
His interview with Stephen Fry was unique for American nightshows, his Britney opening was 100% genuine, he always was Craig the Scottish sellout as he called himself.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the new flood of Don Rickles rarities popping up now! Crazy because I often checked RUclips for any new Don Rickles uploaded videos and then Don passes away, it stung, I love Don, all this new stuff is great, I'll miss him and always cherish his humor and video footage, thank you.
