    I got a first class ticket upgrade and had an empty seat next to me from San Francisco to L.A., then in L.A. Don Rickles boards the plane and sits next to me, he looks at me and says "Please tell me you're a mute", so I just gave him nod and a thumbs up without saying anything and he says "Oh great, they got me next to a mime". Then he said "It's ok, you can talk...just not too much", then he proceeded to roast me for 45 minutes straight...all the way to Vegas. The guy never broke character.

      And there is the difference between Johnny and today's "comedians" that host shows. He knew if someone was hot, let it go. If they were struggling, jump in. Now the hosts talk over everyone and ask dumb softball questions and try to steer everything to politics.

There is no change someone can be at his level in the future, cause thats needs a lot of live experiences on stage with small and bigger audience. You can actually kinda get new material from them. I was on chatgbt and essentially got it to write a bit about chest hair, as if it was coming from Don Rickles.
      This is what it stated, verbatim;
      Don Rickles was a legendary insult comic known for his quick wit and biting humor. To phrase the poem in his style, I might try:
      "Hey, look at this guy over here with the chest hair. What's the matter, you couldn't find a sweater to wear, so you grew one on your chest? I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Seriously though, that's some impressive foliage you've got there.
      You know, back in my day, chest hair was a sign of virility. Women couldn't resist a man with a nice thick pelt on his chest. Of course, these days they probably just think you're auditioning for a part in a Tarzan movie.
      But hey, who cares what they think? You've got chest hair, and you're damn proud of it. It's like a natural toupee for your pecs. So keep on rockin' that chest carpet, my friend. And if anyone gives you a hard time about it, just tell them Don Rickles sent ya."

    The magic of Rickles is that he insulted everyone equally, especially himself. It's not said with cruelty or outrageousness, and comes across as lighthearted banter from a professional funny man. That is what so many "comedians" lack today. It's not that the audience has changed as much as the fools who try to shock everyone and genuinely hurt others in order to get laughs. Johnny, Ed, and Don were in my grandparents generation, and I was too young for all this - but I love them.

    It's difficult to be funny in general, but it's even more difficult to be funny AND make a living out of it, then still you think about how much more difficult it is to be funny AND make a living out of it WHILE insulting everyone around you. That was the life of the legendary *Don Rickles*
    RIP
