I'm glad you mentioned Torpedo grass and Signal grass and it's affect on them. I have a lot of Torpedo trying to invade my St. Augustine in Northwest Florida. My lawn was sodded only 2 years ago and nothing will seem to stop it. I do have the Bermuda grass too so I will be looking into the new product when it hits the market. Thanks for all you do.
So does this stuff kill the torpedo grass? I have an invasion! My Zoysia is beautiful thick and green on one side of my driveway and on the other the Torpedo is invading! I bag it so it doesn't spread. Help!!!!
Southern most part of Louisiana. I have Bermuda and torpedo in parts of my st Augustine. Honestly it’s gotten better over the years. Cut high and cut often and you can keep most of it at bay. Bermuda goes dormant and the torpedo goes away in the winter. St Augustine comes back quickly and out thickens the Bermuda and torpedo every year. Won’t get rid of it completely but it’s what I do.
@@pastelsliderz3097 I mow about once a week but it still wants to go under the St. Augustine and pop out in other places. I spray it with Round Up in the flower beds and it controls it there.
@@GlenCannon239 same. Once a week. Honestly I don’t see the torpedo grass until I put my first application of fertilizer down in the beginning of the summer every year. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but I do notice it about a week or so after. Torpedo grass will travel under anything. Stuff is a pain.
I just saw Bermuda grass in my St. Augustine lawn and wondered where it came from. I'm glad I found your video on it and saw that others have the same issue.
I got Bermuda out of fescue with fusillade 2 but I used a tiny bit like 0.6oz for 7-8,000sq feet and it works in a couple weeks. Main thing is watch the heat for fescue wait till temps break!
I'm glad you addressed the 7 day before and after wait period for fusillade. A couple of Read the Label Tyrants attacked me in the FB group for asking that question. Like you said that long a wait isn't feasible.
Last year I had a major bermuda problem in my St. Augustine front lawn. I manually ripped it it all out by myself, leaving behind patch St. Aug. It was work but my yard looks a whole lot better. This would be a major breakthrough if this actually helps.
I have done the same thing as you and it does work. Its alot of work but i would love to use the Recognition and Fusillade instaed, just would like to know how much both would cost.
With PGR, you can slow down growth to comply with the no mowing ±7 days recommendation. Did my second application of Recognition and Fusilade II three weeks ago. It's a slow process, but it's definitely knocking back the bermuda. I have a small patch of torpedograss, but it doesn't seem much affected.
I started using the PGR in august. I can’t mow anymore and the lawn service is once a week. The hyper growth that St. Augustine gets in the summer is handled much better. To bad the size it comes in will last me a decade.
@@TheLawnCareNut The results on torpedograss are disappointing, especially since both herbicides are labeled to suppress it. I was expecting better results since the tank mix provides two MOAs.
Only been a week since I treated. Bermuda showing signs of dying. Have a couple small spots where Torpedo snuck in but same for me. Doesn't looks like it was bothered. We'll see in another 3-4 weeks...
I have learned to mostly overcome Bermuda grass in my buffalograss. I had a large area that I initially killed with glyphosate. I continued to kill the area for 1.5 to 2 years. Then I planted new buffalograss. For any small spots of resurgence, I kill them again with glyphosate. I have found that tenacity is safe on buffalograss but turns the Bermuda yellow. Using the Tenacity is a good way to find the Bermuda, but it still has to be killed with glyphosate. The buffalograss and Bermuda grass look extremely similar. I have been at it for almost 14 years and I would say I am 99% Bermuda free. Last year I had to kill two small spots about a foot in diameter. This year I have not found any, but may not have been looking hard enough. You just have to do as LCN says and get out in the lawn. It is a challenge to keep ahead of it. Thanks for all the great tips Allyn!
I am unreasonably excited about this. My yard went to crap this year from cold damage and the fact that I wasn’t able to spend as much time on it as needed due to the new bebe. The Bermuda took over everywhere my St Aug struggled. Probably got 25% of the lawn. I don’t care about the price that Bermuda is toast next spring! Now, if they could just figure out a way to remove the centipede… or get the Pro Vista up here in NWLA…
If you stay up and somewhat heavy on the nitrogen it should start to damage centipede and let st aug flourish. Don’t go over board but stay on the higher end of recommended nitrogen for St Aug
I put down about 1/2 acre of st augustine sod last fall in Texas. Now i have a lot of bermuda breaking through. If you can do a couple applications in the spring to get rid of the bermuda, would it give the st Augustine a chance to get thicker? Most of it is generally thick already. Would it be worth the cost because the bermuda will probably come back?
I live in North West Florida and I'm about to use Ornamec 170 which pretty much has the same ingredients as Fulisade. I have zoysia and trying to get rid of invading Bermuda. Probably take a few growing seasons to totally eliminate it. Planted zoysia plugs and they seem to be choking out some of the Bermuda but probably some of it hanging out out down below. Good luck everyone
The trifloxysulfuron in the Syngenta alone is a win for Virginia Buttonweed! Can yhis honestly be the silver bullet I've been hoping for? Great great stuff
You can use fusilade on tall fescue but ONLY use at the most, .25 oz per gallon. I have Zoysia & use Gordons Over the Top which is the same active ingredient as fusilade but a weaker concentration. You might look into that.
It can be but the difference is the “safener”. In TTTF, you need to spike Fusilade II with Triclopyr instead of Recognition. The blanket spray rate is super low so be careful. 0.07-0.14oz/1000 of Fusilade II and 0.73oz/1000 of Triclopyr mixed in with a non-ionic surfactant at 0.5oz/1000.
The timing of the release of this product is unfortunate because for most of us it is going to be too late to apply on our St Augustine as it is about to go dorment very soon for most of the warm season grass zone (I'm in North Florida). 28 days to work puts us in Novemeber. If I applied today 10/2/23 my SA lawn would look like crap until spring with massive bare areas with no capability to recover effectively even with liquid fert in the mix. At this point unless yo live below I-4 or south Texas I'd wait until mid-late spring next year to apply this mix at this point in the season.
fluazifop-P-butyl I now see is the same active ingredient for both Ornamec and Fusilade II. Is that "safener" in the Recognition needed for both St. Augustine and zoysia? Have recently been told that the fluazifop-P-butyl works fine alone with the Empire zoysia here in The Villages.
Coming out of winter, should I fertilize and bring my St Aug our of dormancy first before applying these products? Or apply them now and fertilize at the same time? This is for Southeast Texas lawn.

I would dig beneath in a few areas and look for grubs. If it's not that then do a coffee can test for chinch bugs (google it). wow $250 for a 2Oz bottle of RECOGNITION. Thats crazy! Is fusilade ok for Zoysia by itself? Will it do anything to help with bermuda without recognition?
I know this has nothing to do with the video you just put out but I have a question I noticed that in my backyard I started having a lot of my Saint Augustine checking out now I don't know if it's because of the weather the Heat i live in EdinburgTX. I have been watering regularly and fertilizing every eight weeks. Do you think that I should fertilize more often, again, where in October now. Any help is appreciated.
I would dig beneath in a few areas and look for grubs. If it's not that then do a coffee can test for chinch bugs (google it). If it isn't that then I would just keep watering and monitor the area and see what happens. It could just be that it's the end of the season and the SA is naturally trimming itself back in prep for winter.
@@TheLawnCareNut thank you. I checked for grubs but not chinch bugs. Will do I really do appreciate the help I try to always dominate in my neighborhood 🤣👍
I like my Bermuda-stein lawn Allyn! 😂🎉
You gotta love the one you're with. I understand that for sure 🤣
Will it be necessary to dethatch after the Bermuda dies off?
no it will all break down in time. For now I need the dead stuff there as erosion control until the St Aug can fill in
Very cool.
Will it kill other grassy weeds as well?❤
